| News Comment | Player Abuse Has To Stop at 10:33:39
Nice sentiment - but it wont stop the abuse that some fans who feel they need to vent at a game or down the local, its just footy. I can remember being at the Dell for the opening game of the season (also against West Brom) and a numpty next to me giving Channon a right earful. Even after he scored a couple he had the nerve to say that he was the one that got him moving! |
| News Comment | Koeman Emphasises Pelle Crucial To Saints at 16:38:48
His strike rate is good (how many times has he hit the woodwork!) and he holds the ball well, it will just take a breaker like Millwall in the LC to get him back on "form" and start to convert some chances. The same can be said for Ward-Prowse, tons of opps but converted little, yet when he will score (and he will) the confidence comes flooding back and there is a run of goals. Nothing new and its regardless of it you cost £30m or 20p, being able to prove to yourself that you can do it makes all the difference, such as Ozil, Torres and countless others |
| News Comment | Saints Believed To Be Monitoring Celtic Defender at 09:17:18
Ummm Toby has a say here as well So before we give up all hope that Toby will certainly leave lets see where we finish and then what the price for Toby is compared to his age and value to the club, before we just chuck in the towel. This is a bad case of twitching to the Daily Mail speculation as opposed to what is really happening behind the scenes, of which we know very little (and like any business, it needs to stay that way). Up to now with the new management we seem to be doing pretty well? |
| News Comment | It's None Of Rodgers Business How We Treat Our Ex Players at 15:53:38
I am reminded of the likes of Ferguson here with Rodgers, when he was in full wind up mode he would find all sorts of reasons to pick on the team that he considered to be a threat, and we still are big time. Talking up what was not in the programme is about distracting and creating disharmony and nothing to do with disrespecting past players. |
| News Comment | Manchester United & Liverpool Set To Battle It Out For Nathaniel Clyne at 14:33:21
Agree with the view that we, like every other club is a selling club its part of the footy business. It would be interesting to run a EPL equivalent to a Glass's Guide over the current Saints team, not much on the forecourt for less than £15M I would think, with the top marques such as Nat, Morgan and Toby in the £20m++ (plus mats, road tax and a tank of fuel!) | News Comment | Saints At Arsenal The Verdict at 11:51:22
Assuming teamcortese is not a WUM or pseudo skate then his opinion is valid as just that an opinion. I was at the game last night and think that the team played to win as we always have this season, but the lack of real belief seems to have ebbed since the Villa game. One of the reasons for this is that teams we are playing against have done their home work and cut off the supply from Bertrand - through Tadic and Davis to the front guys. One shot on target last night proved that and the Arse midfield did lock us down pretty tight. Add to that the injuries we now have and the next few weeks will be very tough on a limited and very young squad. as for the bashing of Pelle and Maine - sorry dont buy that you can only get results from what is fed to a striker and in the last few games that area has been starved. |
| News Comment | Saints Linked With Serie A Sensation at 12:02:28
Ummmm no The ability for Saints to make a so called marque signing is not possible due to the so called Fair Play Rules which are a combination of the clubs Profit and Loss, Income and wage bill. This is why we did not spend the full 90m+ gained from sales from the summer, but built in loan deals (Toby and Ryan) which makes sense as these are outside of process, but have a pre-arranged buy deal at the end of the year - expect both of these to be completed. There is a strong belief that FPR was brought in by the usual suspects to lock out clubs like Saints and Athlectico Madird, both of which have bucked the system, due to bigger TV revenues (68m last year for Saints for coming 8th) and investment in good scouting and youth. Until these rules change or there is a big upswing in revenues (bigger stadium, wider global appeal/ fan base = more sponsorship and TV revenue etc) we wont be in the market. |
| News Comment | Time To Reflect And Enjoy Saints Start To The Season at 12:31:36
I am sure that every club look at 12 games played and start to review whats worked and what has not, in our case the verdict would be an 8 out of 12 for wins and fantastic effort that NO Saints fan could have predicted from the summer storm. The so called Big Clubs should not be underestimated here and as was discussed on radio 5 last night its now about the depth of the squad, injuries to key players and the ability to get results from scrappy games - as we all saw last night, that wins Championships. Currently there is what a neutral would call "an imbalance" in that the usual suspects are not where they should be in the table and hopefully it will stay that way come May next year. That would be great for our proud club and the English Footie as a whole. I have been a Saints fan since watching the likes of Channon and Osgood create havoc at the Dell, I have watched my fair share of hero's and villans playing for the club in good measure, but this team and the management have something that cant be bottled. Its massive belief in what they are doing and playing as a team with the drive to succeed and something that I am proud to watch week in and week out. COYS!! |
| News Comment | At Last Back To Action For Saints After A Mixed Bag of Results at 13:17:45
I think Mr Klopp and Benitez are well ahead of the betting for the Liverpool job, RoKo seems to be enjoying life on the South Coast and with a big point to prove. If we keep him for 2 seasons and continue to play in Europe with a war chest to expand the squad year-on-year he will have no need to move. |
| News Comment | A Season Of Three Halves at 11:11:43
That old adage about lies, damn lies and statistics come to mind reading this article, but fun to speculate. What we can take from the first 1/3rd of the season is that the usual suspects are finding the course tough (Chelsea and City apart) and the likes of us, Hammers and the Swans have taken full advantage. Form changes in all clubs as can be seen recently at both ends of the spectrum by Man U improving and Liverhampton getting a lot worst, but momentum is the biggest driver in any club and at any level and at the moment its certainly with Saints. But as the article states you can only play whats in front of you and I expect that very tight bunch from currently around 10th to 4th will chop and change as the season progresses, but the 6-10 point cushion we have should keep us out of that mess as the season progresses, bar injuries and melt down as we had last season (cant see that happening). The difference is that we have the points on the board and that cant be changed so assuming that we drop to even 1 point per game for the next 12, that still keeps us in the march at 37 points. I expect the top end of the league to look like this come the end of Jan Chelsea City Saints Man U Arsenal Everton Newcastle Swansea Chelsea should still have a 5-8 point lead with Saints 9-11 points behind them but still ahead of the chasing pack by 3-5 points. And the likes of Neville, Crooks and Lineker eating a lot of humble pie......... Love being a Saints Fan COYS!!! |
| News Comment | Tadic And Schneiderlin Injury Worries For Trip To Aston Villa at 15:36:08
A couple of points here in that I am sure Tintin has made it clear (as all managers would) that any issues with the players and they get pulled, Spider was pulled very early and both national management have stated "minor injuries". The depth that we have in the squad and options that we can adopt is as stated the real reason why we should not be too concerned even if they are all rested for the Villa match. The defence wont be affected (and who is going to score for villa anyway?) and the strike force is still as potent as before the international break. The poorest result we can expect is a draw, but im going for a 0-2 win, with Pelle getting at least 1. Love being a Saints fan COYS!! |
