Anyone watched it? Apparently from the makers of The Wire (my most favourite series) and highly recommended. But it's a hefty amazon prime investment to watch it, so views greatly received before i commit.
I’ve seen all but the final few episodes as they pulled it from Sky on demand. It’s very different to the Wire (it’s about sex in NYC in the 70/80’s) but includes a few of the same actors.
I enjoyed it but wasn’t blown away like I was with the Wire but that’s a very high benchmark. Well worth watching though.
It is extremely powerful. Certainly one of the best things HBO have produced over the past few years. I can be a hard watch emotionally at times though. Be warned, the last ten minutes of the final episode reduced me to a blubbering wreck the first time I saw it, and even now when I hear the accompanying music I get a lump in my throat.
It is very good.. obviously not as good as the wire, or it would be my favourite series of all time.. but a good watch.. and clever how the same actor plays both brothers..

Do you know why did Sky pulled it?

That closing scene was brilliant wasn’t it. Excellent way to end the series, I ended up rewatching the last bit straight away to take it all in.
I really enjoyed it...reminded me of the Sopranos too in the way that it had so many characters, all who were really interesting in their own right but without necessarily adding loads to the storyline. some fantastic script writing too.
Last series was very good and the last scene was done so well.
We bought the complete The Wire box set a couple of years back, but struggled to get into the first series - unclear/difficult to understand speech and a fairly slow plot. So it's sat on the shelf unwatched.
Should my wife I stick with it (our favourite box sets have been the likes of West Wing, Sopranos and House)?

I think you should, Ashdown.
No spoilers, just to say that it's uplifting, deep, dark and comedic.

I'd been sitting on The Wire for quite a few years and finally got round to watching it in the summer (after rave reviews on this site). As the theme tune faded in the first episode I asked my wife (who's Spanish but speaks impeccable English) if she wanted the subtitles on. At that moment one of the street characters started talking and I said "Hell, I'm gonna need the subtitles!". I think I would have missed more without them so maybe it's worth turning them on?
I'm also a big West Wing and House fan, (Never got round to finishing The Sopranos, another one still on the shelf) so I'd say it's definitely right up your street. It's a slow burner, maybe a bit like Hill Street Blues where it's just one day at a time but each day gives you the chance to get to know the characters a little bit better. We burned through all 5 series in a couple of weeks and after the last episode my wife asked me if there were any more. I told her no as it finished 12 years ago to which she replied "sheeeeeeit". :-)
