Will Reform win a single seat?
at 11:05 3 Jul 2024

Reform U.K will surprise many with its vote share, and will perform way beyond all expectation from the day that it announced its intent. There is something rather significant and unique happening here. We are talking about many millions of votes here!

And onto Labour? Yep a landslide victory, but with a surreal share of the percentage vote that does not match that landslide victory, especially after defeating a government that’s been in power for 14 years!

It will NOT show a huge surge of overwhelming support that would usually be expected from a crushing victory.

In fact it should be no surprise if its vote is down by a good few thousand in many constituencies

It'll be emotionally-flat and minus "dawn of a new era" jubilation seen with Thatcher’s and Blair’s victories. We are about to witness (Reform U.K supporters aside) a unique "oh whatever" mood amongst many.

BOG OFF to BOGOF offers in Wales

I'm 100% serious when I say this i.e. Labour could close Morriston Hospital without replacement and still people would blame the Tories.

Wales truly has the most unsophisticated-tribal electorate in the entire Western world.

Certain individuals 40 hour week(s) can never be compared; the difference is world’s apart.

Guy’s pushing heavy laden barrows during a ready mix concrete shuttering pour in unbearable heat and humidity for example cannot be compared to someone working in an air-conditioned office.

And working well into late 60's is some ask, because physical demands and wear and tear of certain jobs will make that impossible. RSI and arthritis etc. Add to that the fact that testosterone levels fall by 1% each and every year after the age of 30, which means that it takes far longer for the body to recuperate
.
So the gist is 40 hour weeks and late retirement is an entirely different matter for certain professions. And government ministers have failed to appreciate that and have shown staggering levels of naivety!

I worked there as a steel erector months out of school on a Otto Simon Carves Ltd subcontract and despite not being employed by British Steel I have an affinity with the place, ditto seeing the the steelworks when returning from away trips meant "I'm home".

I do not know how many it employed at its peak but I guess its many, many thousands. Places like that were and are vital for the local economy. I find the whole situation surreal i.e. the U.K a country without real blastfurnaces, without manufacturing industry, no full strength military, family silver sold off, once efficent services (e.g. tax offices) understaffed and overwhelmed, or not there in many instances e.g. NHS dentistry.

The U.K has been on the decline for decades.

I was intriqued when Captain Sensible of The Damned said that the main revenue stream for his band came from merchandising. What the group earned via concert revenue from ticket sales was small potatoes compared to selling t'-shirts.

Captain Sensible commentated that The Stranglers were even selling decanters. I reckon stadium bands must make an absolute small fortune.

I ponder if denied entry on French border is there another way to get into the U.K? Hopefully not! Too many nautical miles?

I'm hoping for a Marine Le Pen government in France, because if she has serious intent to stop undocumented illegal entry to her country, then it means they will not be travelling through France in great numbers to come over here.

Crazy to think that its 127,000 arrivals so far and that’s just those that are accounted for excluding the ‘disappeared’ and at this rate in ten years time it'll be a case of approx half a million that have entered the U.K that nobody knows the true identity of.

I guess that there are many out there hoping for the emergence of more sensible right-wing border control and rulers with intention to filter out and erode the numbers down to a trickle levels. Perish the thought and possibility of it ending up as 100,000+ a year!

Populism is now unstoppable, the dam has burst; Millions within the EU are now sticking their two fingers up to the politcal establishment and the EU!..... That?..... Could end up with the destruction of the EU, or end up with a right wing EU, because its arrogant lefty-loon/liberal leaders have failed to apply common sense and to listen!

There is also hope on the small boats issue, because allowing small boats to leave France and for smuggling gangs to operate means that it encourages illegal immigrants to enter France in the first place.

And I guess this is the very lady that realises that, whilst also knowing that France has a military very capable of boosting border control effectiveness by coming to the aid of over-stretched French police.

Because it has rather looked that there has never been any real intention to stop illegal entrants from entering France and to stop the smugglers and boats anyhow.

BADFINGER - They Sold A Million ...

At the time (late 1970's) of being asked to leave Duck Son And Pinker I thought that the rather abrupt and unfriendly guy doing the orders was a right b@stard.

All these years later I pause and reflect and think that a lot of stock must have been damaged or dropped or stolen by over zealous and excited young hands. Hence why I have warm memories of John Ham's kindness to let teenagers like myself stand in awe at stuff that was impossible to purchase, or to save up for out of pocket money.

BADFINGER - They Sold A Million ...
at 13:02 22 Jun 2024

Thanks! I used to go into John Ham’s music shop as a teenager and in my early twenties and see the (and not copies) 'proffesional' instruments that my hero's on TOTP played. His shop tended to be the only one with that type of stock.

I can vividly remember seeing a Les Paul Deluxe played by Thin Lizzy and The Who....A white Fender Precision Bass with black scratch plate that Sid Vicious played, a silver face Fender Twin 100w amp that Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols used, a Rickenbacker 330 that Paul Weller played and a Rickenbacker 4001 bass that Glen Matlock of the Sex Pistols, Lemmy from Motorhead and Bruce Foxton of The Jam played.

This was all extremely ‘high-end’ gear that could not be scratched, scuffed or damaged, BUT despite that John Ham would let me and other kids wander and browse through his shop, unlike ‘Duck Son And Pinker’ where we were asked to leave despite causing no trouble or threat of damage to its vastly ‘inferior’ gear.

John Ham was an absolute diamond!

To the rear of (closed many years back) Top Gear Music on London’s Denmark Street in the 1970’s was the outbuilding that became Badfinger’s rehearsal studio, which latter become the Sex Pistols rehearsal studio, demo-recording location and living quarters.

I had a conversation with the former owner of Top Gear Music, and he said that Pete Ham’s brother John used to make regular trips to Denmark Street even after Pete's passing. I guess it's a location popular for many fans of both Badfinger and Sex Pistols to go on some form of pilgrimage to retrace their musical hero's steps also.

I guess for John however it was some form of emotional release and sentimental-cathartic healing part of the grieving process for him, because I guess it was the very location where is brother was at his most happiest, most successful and untouched from the sociopathic world of rip-off mangement and music industry executives.

European Elections

There has been talk and reporting about Europe drfiting futher and further towards the right? There is speculation and reporting about Eurpopean youth drifting further towards the right also? Maybe the entire EU is about to change in a way that could never ever have been imagined only a few years ago?

Are they singing 'The forbidden song' called 'Auslander Raus' out of ideological beliefs, or because the song is rather catchy like other football songs?
