| News Comment | Going through changes – Preview at 19:33:56
Thanks for your preview. Ideally it would have been better to play Hull before their new manager bounce (Hull are not that far behind us in the form table), although they do seem to have significant injuries. Hull is cold, up North, and a long way from Plymouth. Intriguing to see if our run can continue under these conditions. |
| News Comment | Selles summoned to rescue endangered Tigers - Oppo Profile at 18:59:30
Thanks to Nathaniel. It feels like Hull never recovered from getting rid of Rosenior. Rubén Sellés had to work under impossible conditions at Reading...let's see what he does with a side that's had some money spent on it. |
| News Comment | Kolli crowns big week with perfect Plymouth winner – Report at 11:24:54
Thanks for your report. Despite our many chances, Grimshaw was stopping everything, so a draw (or even a loss if Plymouth had managed to score) looked on the cards. That was until Mumba's mistake. Kolli still had a lot to do. It's the sign of a good striker to get the ball into right into the corner of the net, and Kolli has been doing that recently. |
| News Comment | Flying KLM all over again – Preview at 12:24:20
Thanks for your preview. As you pointed out in your match report on the FA Cup game against Leicester...given the circumstances, the result wasn't that surprising. We can only hope that resting players does actually pay off (it's also worth remembering that we have had significant injuries to key players throughout the season). Our record against Plymouth is not great. The questions are: a) can we keep our league form going and b) have Plymouth turned a corner now they have got rid of Rooney? |
| News Comment | A mist opportunity as Foxes hit QPR for six – Report at 11:12:44
Thanks for your report. Why did the game go ahead? Is it because the FA Cup is so low on the list of priorities that everyone just wanted to get it out of the way? It did feel like a one man demolition job by Ashby, but given the context which you outline (by far from our strongest team, and Leicester better than us) you can't blame him alone. As pointed out in the forum, we scored two very good goals (which is no small thing as we simply couldn't score earlier in the season). Let's hope this result doesn't interrupt our momentum in the league. |
| News Comment | That FA Cup preview again – Preview at 13:43:53
Thanks for your preview. 'QPR have let us down. They’ve let us down time and time and time again.' At least they have been consistent in that (in the cups very consistent). Agree that now, if ever, might be a good opportunity for us to take the FA cup seriously. However, we need to keep in mind that most of the footballing world is not taking it seriously (Bramall Lane was almost empty on Thursday night). |
| News Comment | Foxes' top flight return in danger of heading south - Oppo Profile at 13:17:31
Thanks to Ian. Things seemed to have unravelled quickly. When going up teams need to build on what they have. Instead Leicester lost Maresca to Chelsea. It will be interesting to see how things develop. The fans would like Leicester to consolidate in the Premiership, but perhaps they will become a yoyo club like Norwich, Leeds or Burnley (assuming Leicester don't get tied down by PSR). |
| News Comment | Resolutions – Preview at 19:46:20
Thanks for your preview. I defer to you on how the club should handle communications, and how they have created their own problems. Perhaps I don't expect much as I remember the pre-internet days when lack of communication was the norm. Wild mood swings are to be expected from football fans. Unfortunately this outlook seems to affect boardrooms too as we regularly read articles saying such-and-such a manager has two games to save his job. I think it was reasonable to expect that we would be off to a flying start once Cifuentes had a pre-season after a bit of miracle-working last season. However this season it's not just integrating new players that's been a problem, it's that key defensive players have been injured, and during that long winless spell we didn't have a reliable goal-scorer either. Not to mention Chair's absence. I would like to think we can take advantage of Luton's problems, but it never quite seems to work out like that. Also, as SimplyNico points out, they do have some good forwards. |
| News Comment | Norwich out for revenge, QPR looking for a response - Preview at 12:32:27
Thanks for your preview. Yes, monkeys. I suppose the questions are: which Norwich will QPR be facing? and which QPR will Norwich be facing? In particular can we keep Sainz quiet like we did last time? As you pointed out, Cook has covered up a multitude of problems, which were horribly exposed at Swansea. |
| News Comment | QPR’s unbeaten run crushed in Swansea Christmas horror – Report at 12:11:18
Thanks for your report. In the first half, those through balls of Swansea's, combined with a footballing black hole (Fox and Paal) on our left, really killed us. Swansea had worked out how to deal with our low-lying defence and had a field day. We can only pray that Cook's injury is not too serious. |
| News Comment | A long time between drinks – Preview at 13:50:13
Thanks for your preview. Agree that it's often more difficult to watch on a stream as it can be more difficult to read the pattern of the game (although I do prefer the side view you get on TV rather than watching from the home or away end). Yes, I feared for us earlier in the season, my only hope being that we would rally when injured players like Colback and Clarke-Salter returned. The fact that we have picked up steam without them is impressive. Btw, aren't the wild mood swings part of the condition of being a football fan? That Boxing Day record is an absolute shocker when you think that in that time we have had Jago, Sexton, and Venables as managers. Maybe it's the curse of Alec Stock? |
| News Comment | Williams demands Swans response after Hull loss - Oppo Profile at 13:08:08
Thanks to Phil. Sounds like Swansea are in the doldrums and uncharacteristically short of ideas about what to do next. I see their goal-scoring record is similar to ours, which is surprising as we have been playing without an effective striker most of the season. |
| News Comment | Are we the shithouses? Preview at 14:24:53
Thanks for your preview. QPR twinned with Preston? Not what anyone wants, but we do have the excuse of missing players and no strike force. Our passing stats are awful. It's one of the worst things about watching us play. How is it that even good players like Andersen have been afflicted by this? As WestonSuperR points out, it's not easy to outdo Preston in the dark arts. Let's hope that's not our plan. |
| News Comment | Old foes, familiar faces and new trends collide at Ashton Gate - Preview at 23:18:53
Thanks for your preview. I am not surprised that Cifuentes went defensive as we had nothing up front (until, out of the blue, Celar, Kolli and Field stepped up to score in recent weeks). On top of that we were also missing key players in defence and midfield. I am a little bit surprised by Andrew Scherer's observation of our low possession statistics in games we have won when you include last season, but I guess this shows that Cifuentes has been firefighting since the day he got here, so maybe we were naïve to think that things were suddenly going to change after a single pre-season. The world looks like a different place after a few wins, although I suspect our goal-scoring problems haven't gone away. It would be good if we can keep anything of our momentum going. |
| News Comment | The Championship's most mid-table team - Oppo Profile at 22:20:53
Thanks to @fevsfootball. It sounds like City are on a mid-table budget and are getting mid-table results. I'd say that when Wells was at QPR he was an already an all-rounder: as well as scoring himself he could set up other players to score. |
| News Comment | Pragmatism v idealism - Preview at 19:44:12
Thanks for your preview. Ooo...chaps under fire in the trenches? Sent over the top into no-man's land? Yes, we had to consolidate before innovating. Actually, I don't think Cifuentes had much choice but to stick to defending, as we couldn't score a goal (until Celar and then Kolli delivered). You are right to warn about this game...we haven't done well against teams lower in the table, and we always struggle in any game that we are expected to win. Having said that I would like to think we could use some of the momentum we have picked up in the last few games. |
