I cant see THB 'only' being on £7.5k a week when he cost the club £20m in transfer fee. It is also surprising to see that KWP is on relatively low wages which apparently is correct. I am surprised he has not moved on before his contract runs out but guess he will negotiate a much better contract when he leaves for free at the end of the season. I wonder if most/all of the players have to take a 50% reduction in their wages next year? It would also be interesting to learn if the club had to pay a promotion bonus when the club was promoted |

What's the general though on the forthcoming FA Cup game? I bought my ticket prior to the Ipswich win and wonder if a few minds have been changed as a consequence of the result? I guess the crowd is not going to be more than 15,000 but whilst a poor turnout perhaps those who attend will be true supporters of the team It is worth noting that we played Swansea soon after their 4-0 thrashing by our friends down the road and now we face Burnley the week after a 0-0 draw at Fratton. Burnley have a fantastic defensive record and their 'keeper James Trafford has been in top form for them. A solid defence versus a poor attacking team so another 0-0? [Post edited 2 Feb 21:41]

We went through something similar when Rangers came to town in a nondescript cup competition (Texaco Cup?) about 50 years ago. |

As a long standing Saints fan I am truly amazed how loyal our fans have been through this shit show of a season. I think there is a positive hangover from last season and it will be interesting to see if a decent level of interest is maintained next season. To be fair though I think we are not alone in the level of support. Many clubs are seeing seeing decent attendances even if they are not doing too well. It is interesting to look back about 40 years when hooliganism was rife and stadia were unsafe and old fashioned. Some of the crowd figures then were significantly lower than they are now. |

Totally outplayed yesterday and we only had one shot of any note - from Harwood Bellis (overhead kick) - whilst Newcastle had several and we were fortunate not to concede a penalty in the second half. In my many years supporting Saints I have never seen such a difference in class between us and other clubs in the League we were playing in. |

Anyone manage to pick up a feed from last nights U21 2-0 win at Chelsea last night. I must admit that I enjoyed the game and the young Saints performance. Young lad in goal did well (someone called Bazunu I think) and decent performances by Amo Ameyow and Robinson. Overall though the lads competed well and played decent football. Made a change from watching the first team struggle. |

Was the 1-0 home defeat in the Cup played on a weekday afternoon due to Power strikes? |
| Forum Reply | Are we as fans really that unhappy to return to the Championship? at 11:59 24 Jan 2025
I want us to be competitive in the Prem for many reasons. However this season has been disastrous and hopefully we will be chasing a return to the Prem next year. As other posters have pointed out there is no guarantee that we will be in the top two positions and even getting into the play offs is a gamble and we then face the possibility of years in the doldrums and the possibility of getting even worse owners. |

Scored the goal that beat us in the 1963 FA Cup semi Final at Villa Park, when we were a Second Division team |
| Forum Reply | Southampton Said To Have made Decision On Tyler Dibling's Transfer at 16:36 22 Jan 2025
Ultimately Agents want to do the best for themselves rather than their clients. If Tyler does want to stay here and this desire is shared by his parents then that is good news. In financial terms the club has to decide his value in terms of wages. From Tylers side, I guess he is on comparatively little money on his current wage so there will discussions on going about how this translates to his performances in the Prem and the likely adjustment (downwards?) when the team is relegated. |

On another point for those who understand the Laws Of The Game: is the non direct free kick for obstruction now a thing of the past Likewise handball against 'keepers when kicking out of hand when their feet and the ball are outside the penalty area |

There is something fundamentally wrong with the set up at St Marys. Sure there is a significant gap between Championship and Premier League football but Leicester & Ipswich are giving it a go and will surely be stronger than us next season after relegation. Spending £40m on Tall Paul and Sulemana plus around £6m a year in wages has been basically pissing the money down the drain Yesterday, Brentford, a mid table team without an away win played like they were Barcelona against a random National League team. They were fitter, better organised, more incisive in front of goal and could have played with my old Nan in goal such was our lack of threat going forward. Heaven knows how the club will deal with relegation. The dear departed Russell Martin reckoned it took a while to heal the scars of our last relegation. The worry is the cuts are much deeper this season and the remains of the shell shocked team who will be relegated with the lowest ever points total, less than 20 goals scored and possibly over 100 conceded could potentially see us marooned in the Championship (or worse) for the forseeable future. Looking deeper into the crystal ball, we could potentially end up the worst performing team on the South Coast, especially if our finances turn out to be too far into the debit side of the ledger. |

I will be one of the unfortunate few who will be attending next Sunday 's Cup game along with an expected crowd.pf less than 10,000. There was the possibility of the attendance reaching 12-15,000 if the team had put in a decent performance yesterday but it is unlikely that anyone will shell out £20+ after yesterdays disaster. I doubt if Swansea supporters will be too keen either as my Swansea supporting mate reckoned only about 11,000 Swans fans turned out at their game v WBA yesterday following their 4-0 thrashing at Fratton Park in their last away game.. I am going with the full expectation of another dire performance, possibly a low score draw at full time and to be knocked out on penalties in the replay. |
