Because if we did there’d be no one working at Dale, clearly on that side of things they were over staffed beyond their means. |

Don’t struggle, it’s simple. Tranmere did the work in good time and therefore don’t have to reverse their fixture, meaning no extra travel costs will be incurred. Good organisation on their part. |

Difficult to say for certain as like yourself I don’t live on the Wirral, weather could of been beefed, worse or the same. Either way they started in April, we started much later. |

Yet in the same amount of time since the last game was played Tranmere have done more extensive work on their pitch and already played two friendlies on it, poor call doing the work so late. |

Was always going to be problems with this pitch which I believe was a ‘temporary fix’ for the Spurs game to the end of that season. Nothing more than bog standard renovation has been done since then and the so called new pitch has never materialised. Whilst credit to Accrington’s ability to put a new pitch in its only them that play there and nothing will change with rugby sharing as we all know, for how many turn up to watch them I’m amazed it’s cost effective for them to play at Spotland. Whilst Accrington played today their pitch looked pretty poor by the end of the game so even a £300k new pitch (which is still cheap compared to other new pitches) can suffer. The Oli Makin fan club forget that it was his predecessor who was nominated for various pitch awards and got the pitch in some sort of decent shape a few years ago, I doubt if Oli came back (and I’m certain he wouldn’t) he’d stay long anyway given the amount of jobs he’s had since leaving as he has certainly been round the houses in recent years. Every time I see our groundstaff on the pitch it looks like a youth club outing, are we not paying enough for an experienced Groundsman to take charge? The fact we’ve been through four or five groundsmen over recent years might be an indication that somethings wrong somewhere. |

That was what I heard was his downfall... |

Heard it as hearsay, albeit from a good source, hence asking if anyone can confirm. |

Believe the end of season pitch works have been delayed till next week as (once again) we are now without a Head Groundsman? Anyone confirm? |

No sex scandal but the lad who came from Oldham 6 weeks ago as deputy groundsman has jumped ship and is going back there. |

I was here a month ago telling you this breaking news. And the new Head Groundsman started last Monday, not yesterday as incorrectly stated in the article. [Post edited 11 Sep 2018 19:33]

New assistant groundsman now been appointed as well. From Oldham. Might of been the lure of getting paid on time that swayed it for him. |

Nothing cryptic about it, unfortunately at this moment in time I don’t know the persons nane, address, date of birth of national insurance number. |

Your choice whether you pay attention or not. Merely posted a comment that doesn’t necessarily need replying too, therefore any ‘attention’ given to it is down to individuals. |

I believe the search is on for a third Head Groundsman in 6 months? |

It’s the existing indigenous soil base which originally had Fibresand ameliorated into it a few years ago with bits of drainage done here and there, though over the years lack of ‘topping up’ of the Fibresand coupled with the two returfings has seen the majority disappear. The reinforced turf used in February has been stripped off and Fibresand topped up to a much better level, with work taking around 5-6 days to complete and probably at a ballpark cost of around £50-60k including materials. Worth noting a ‘new Fibresand pitch’ including new drainage and irrigation etc, which is what was originally communicated by the club, would take 3-4 weeks to complete and would cost up to £500k so whilst problems may not resurface immediately, don’t expect them to be a million miles away. |
