Hull Is For Heroes match fred
at 23:21 21 Jan 2025

The turnaround is nothing short of amazing but let's keep our feet on the ground as we haven't blown anyone away and we could've easily drawn the last two games. The suggestion though that we can't say anything negative because we won....I don't know, we'll have to agree to disagree.

We are QPR, we have a history of grabbing defeat from the jaws of victory and even though we were 0-2 up with 15 to go, the sight of Madsen and Ashby warming up sent a shiver down my colon. I feared the worst because that's what we do and seeing Ashby ping the ball as hard as he could to no one in particular didn't ease the shivering. We won though, which is the main thing, but there's still room for improvement and I don't have a problem with people pointing out where we need to make those improvements.

Kolli had his day last week, today's was Saito's. Well done that man.

Here's a random addition to this thread. If Oxford win away at Stoke on Saturday, they will top the form table for the last 8 games. If they win that'll be 6 wins and two draws. They've had quite the turnaround since we comfortably beat them 2-0.

I just wonder if the almost universal "Oi! No! Marti's going nowhere!" from the fans (even though we were bottom) had any influence on the finger being removed from the trigger?

Who knows but I think we can all pat ourselves on the back anyway, we know a good QPR manager when we see one.

Onwards and upwards, we're in the single digit positions now. It's a funny old game.

I know the links have been posted but I'll just leave this image here.

It's a beautiful thing.

Loved Saito's goal, I scared a few people when that hit the net. It's great that all the new boys have been scoring lately, we are starting to look like a happy team again.

It's nice not to have to cherry pick the week to make us look good. Pick 4/6/8 or 10 weeks and we're either 1st or 2nd. Niiiiice

Nice to finally grind out a win against them. Frey and Chair still need to sharpen up their killer instinct but Kolli showed them how to do it. So pleased for him.

How about a few “not a lot of people know thats”
at 17:29 15 Jan 2025

Funny you should say that, here's what it says on its Wiki page...

"The Lone Ranger" was first released in 1976. After it was chosen as Tony Blackburn's BBC Radio 1 "Record of the Week" (the nationwide morning radio show with the highest ratings in the UK at the time), it was banned when some fragments of lyrics were deemed to contain references to drugs and homosexuality. The BBC stopped playing the record, and it failed to chart.

Quantum Jump disbanded at the end of 1977 but the band would, however, make an unexpected return two years later when a re-release of "The Lone Ranger" single became an unexpected hit. The song had been widely played by Kenny Everett on both his radio and TV shows. Re-released in 1979, it eventually reached number 5 in the UK Singles Chart.

The longest word in the world is

Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateaturipukakapikimaungahoronukupokaiwhenuakitanatahu, which is a hill in New Zealand. The Name was the inspiration for the 1979 hit "The Lone Ranger" by Quantum Jump. It was slightly altered to sound as if it were Native American, in keeping with the Lone Ranger and Tonto theme. It is chanted as follows:

Taumata-whaka-tangi-hanga-kuayuwo
tamate-aturi-pukaku-piki-maunga
horonuku-pokaiawhen-uaka-tana-tahu
mataku-atanganu-akawa-miki-tora

Film 2025
at 14:01 15 Jan 2025

I've just watched the trailer for River and it reminded me of "Beyond the Infinite Two Minutes". I then saw in the comments that River is the director's bigger-budget follow-up to it so if you haven't seen it yet it's worth a watch.

Demi Moore looked great in Landman which is another great series staring Billy Bob Thornton, (following on from the excellent Goliath).

I was recently introduced to a series called Love, Death and Robots which, having only seen 2 very short episodes (about 12 minutes each) looks right up my street.

*edit* Just realised the thread is about films and not TV series. Never mind, I'll leave them here anyway.

How do you feel about Marti post-Leicester?
at 17:19 14 Jan 2025

I fully understand the annoyance of throwing in the towel in the second half but I think it was a tactical decision from Marti. The board stuck with Marti when things weren't going well and he stuck with Ashby and Madsen for similar but also slightly different reasons.

One argument is that Marti gave Ashby more time to try and rectify his mistakes of the first half. He didn't but if he did we would be talking about how Ashby showed his professionalism to keep a cool head and show us there's a decent player in there after all. If he'd come off at half time his confidence would have taken a severe dent and who knows how long it would take for him to recover from that and that's not what we need from a player on loan.

Madsen is different in that he's had enough chances to prove he's a footballer and he's decided it's not his preferred profession so that should be last we see of him. The reason I say it was a tactical decision is because our squad is still a bit thin despite most of the crocks returning. The January window is gaping so if we need to get rid of a few and get a few in, the message has been sent loud and clear who we need to replace/send back and I'd much rather he did that in a game we lose every year than against Plymouth/Hull etc.

Annoying but can see why he did it....but that's only my opinion of course.

I've decided that from Jan 1st I'm only watching TV in 4K.

That's my new years resolution.

Oxford had only won four games before Xmas have just won three in a row.

OOPs, BBC table was in real time, thought they were going to be on 30 points with their first win away but no, on 27 points. Still, they were joint bottom Xmas eve, now 18th. Gotta love this league.

Shirley Marti's 'multi year contract' extension ties him down at least for a year? Can't see him going anywhere until he has finished a season with us sitting proudly atop the mid table huddle.

Most dramatic fall

Probably too early to say he's had a dramatic fall but Chris Willock should be playing at a higher level but suddenly doesn't seem to care....which made me think of Adel....what a waste of talent.

And the winner of this years Double Spackman award goes to....Esox_Lucius!

Not only was this joke told by acricketer on page 19 but was first seen on page 4 and told by none other than....Esox_Lucius!

Should we be worried Esox?

I suspect we'll be seeing this joke again circa page 135.

OK, here's one.

You are up a ladder and you drop a screw, what are the odds of finding if....

a) You in an enclosed space like a bathroom. 50/50

b) You are in a garage and you hear the screw hit the floor....and then total silence. 10%

c) You are in the garden and it falls into the long grass. 0.001%

Screws...twisty little sneaky bastards, especially the flat head ones.
