Pretty sure Loic Remy scored on his debut on a frosty Saturday afternoon at Upton Park (my last visit to the first football ground I ever went to). Picked up a pass from Adel on the halfway line took it to the edge of the area then slotted it home with pace and accuracy. And he’s still available for the play-offs.
Dear friends of Fred Pentland, thanks for all your traveller’s tales. Some great knowledge. LFW at its best. I’ve had two weeks off the drink and I love me a drop of cider so I’ll be on that local stuff. That hearty bean stew sounds a winner too. Game kicks off at a civilised 9 pm tomorrow which makes up for all those midday kick offs endured earlier this season. Looking forward to a great weekend and kicking off today with the miracle of San Jude. An Rs win and a Celar goal. 🙏🏼
Btw: First foreign team to visit San Mamés in 1913 was Shepherds Bush FC. How about that!?
For a mate’s 50th off to the Basque derby, Sunday night. Athletic Bilbao vs Real Sociedad. Plan to stay a few days, maybe visit Geurnica, and if it’s safe a bit of swimming off San Sebastian. Any tips from the well travelled and discerning LFW-er will be gratefully received.
Friday trivia. Who were the first foreign team ever to visit Athletic Bilbao? The year was 1913. The team was from West London, and they won 1-0.
