| News Comment | Saints Set To Agree Deal With Keeper at 09:19:17
Bazunu is a terrible shot stopper, i can't believe some of the comments on here saying he's better than Mccarthy. Granted, Mccarthy has periods when he turns to shit (especially near post syndrome) and needs dropping to reset, but when we're talking about goal keeping basics, commanding the box, making saves from distance and giving the defence confidence (ie when he comes for a ball) you know he's less likely to flap than baz. He's head and shoulders over Baz.. Which is another point, baz is short for today's keepers (at just over 6 feet). Unless you have the extra ability to deal with being shorter (ie pickford) then you're going to spend games flapping and letting in long range efforts because you don't have that reach. Oh yeah baz is good with his feet apparently- if that's your argument put him in midfield. Mccarthy forced a change of style in the POs and that is one of the key reasons we won the POs. His commanding of his box, those two massive punches to clear the ball out of the area under immense pressure is what he does better than baz. Do I want Mccarthy as our number one? NO! He dips in form during a season. We need a new keeper, an experienced one and I'd love us to spend big but FFP rules probably say no. So Mccarthy starts number one, with Lumley as back up we saw how baz performed last time out in the prem, so loan baz out when he's fit, sell him and try and recoup some money. |
| News Comment | Saints At Klagenfurt The Verdict at 11:22:25
Nice attempt at a political spin. Facts are we are no stronger than last season and have to look forward to another season of hoping at least two of the newly promoted sides are worse than us (one of the three normally has a good season) and hoping that we can compete with another equally poor Prem team (like Leeds) to avoid the drop. Let's hope JWP stays fit because I can't see anyone else getting close to double figures next season. |
| News Comment | Reading Interested In Shane Long Return at 13:14:32
Yes nice sentiment / article but as one of our highest paid players on £58k p/w I question his bit part squad role in recent seseaons. Fair play to his agent! Mind you as Redmond is our 2nd highest paid (74k) followef by Walcott (72k) hopefully we can say bye bye to all 3 and re invest this money!! |
| News Comment | Would Saints Supporters Have Danny Ings Back At St Mary's at 14:51:16
Yes. If we get him back we get Che back too, so we'll gain a couple of strikers!! But if he does leave I fear Brighton will Hoover him up because they will be a 'bigger' club or an 'exciting project' 😂 |
| News Comment | Southampton Now Genuine Top 10 Contenders at 12:05:56
"just that one kick out of the equation and we would now be 9th on 34 points two clear of the Seagulls, with perhaps a slight chance of catching Spurs or Wolves". How? If we'd won, all events, actions and results of others games would have been completely different. Good uplifting article but that's getting just a bit too carried away :-D |
| News Comment | Southampton V Manchester United The Verdict at 08:53:51
It's a ride I'm going to enjoy. It's been a long time coming. But you know what happens every time we get on a ride like this? The likes of Spuds, Man Poo and Liverhampton come along with their cheque books. |
| News Comment | Should Southampton Sell Jannik Vestergaard This Summer at 13:48:22
I like him. He has the odd laspes in concentration but makes up for that with his ability to play accurate long balls to start attacks - he's also our only defender who's a proven goal threat at set pieces. Wish he was more commanding at the back but if he was all these things Liverpool would have bought him in the last window. Hope he doesn't shine in the Euros. |
| News Comment | Ward Prowse England Omission Highlights Southgate's Losing of The Plot ! at 22:17:21
Wake up. JWP didn't deserve to go. Good start to the season but he was no game winner towards the end of our p!ss poor season. Boo hoo, JWP didn't get picked. Good. Less chance of him getting injured or putting himself in the shop window and getting poached by Spuds. Moaners, grow up and come on England - regardless of which donkeys he's picked. |
| News Comment | Moussa Djenepo Target For Turkish Giants at 19:39:12
Get rid of Toblerone footed Redmond. Keep Djenepo. Good squad player at worst and should be able to perform against the Brentfords and Norwiches. |
| News Comment | Theo Walcott Agrees Two Year Saints Deal at 16:56:49
Considering our current financial / recruitment situation this is a 'keep calm and carry on' move. Look, he's no game influencer any more but he's a good solid team and squad player. Plus he's an asset off the pitch with the youth. I genuinely think he's actually happy to finish his top flight career with us more than the guarantee of another two years top salary. He's motivated and that shows in the running he puts in on the pitch for Ralph- plus, whilst as a sub, the way he congratulad Teller after Teller scored proved to me he up for the cause. If his shooting abilities we're anything like Armstrongs or Ings I'm sure bigger offers would have come through. But I'm pleased to have such an experienced player for the squad as next season is going to be difficult especially in Ings and JWP get picked for the euros and do well.. In fact if any of our players do well in the euros (Che, Armstrong, vestigard etc..) then we could be fending off the likes of Spuds and liverhampton in the summer. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Crystal Palace The Preview at 16:17:41
We've not been playing with fear! That's been the problem! We've been playing with the opposite, apathy- perhaps brought on by amassing a good haul of points early on. Religation has never entered our mindset and we've cruised from loss to loss not worried about our slide down the league. I actually wish Ralph was capable of putting fear in to some of those players!! |
| News Comment | All Saints Eyes On Fulham V Burnley Tonight But There Is A Dilemma at 13:45:40
FFS, who cares if we finish 17th or 15th?What does it matter if we finish above Burnley?! It's not going to make up for the shower of sh!te we've had to put up with most the season. What's a couple of million in league placement going to do? Buy us a new defence. So of course we want Burnley to win so we can shut down this appalling season. Oh but we were top and got to a semi I hear some cry. Did the fans have a day out at Wembley? No. Did we finish in the top 8? No. The table doesn't lie. I'm fed up of all the spin and excuses pumped out. In Ralph I do not trust but we're stuck with him 😠|
| News Comment | Southampton At Liverpool The Verdict at 21:33:39
I think if Fulham lose to Burnley tomorrow we go fourth from bottom.. but it guarantees our survival 😂 what a season 😠|
| News Comment | Southampton At Liverpool The Preview at 10:30:56
Yep, another positive loss if you want to spin it. Something fundamental has to change to break this rhythm of results and lack of confidence. The problem is nothing fundamental will (or can) change so next season could be our comeuppance.. |
| News Comment | Premier League Referee's Motives Called Into Question Yet Again As Vestergaard's Red Card Is Overtur at 16:53:08
I'm not complaining! Brilliant decision. It focused the players and for the first time in months they actually fought. I actually doubt we'd of got anything from the game with 11 players too as we'd of stuck to our normal plan A and Leicester would have picked us off, just waiting for our normal lapses in concentration. We should be thanking the ref/VAR team for making the team (and Ralph) realise that when it matters, we can fight for each other. This is the spirit we need to take into each of our last few games. Imagine if we had a full complement of outfield players performing like this, focused.. Imagine.. |
| News Comment | In Ralph We Should Trust at 16:56:40
Two wins in two for Mr Adkins 😎 Ralph is a passionate for sure but he has proven time and time again that he can't turn things round fast enough- in game and between matches. Yes we can wheel out the well laid out excuses normally posted on here but I'm bored of these same excuses. A big part of managing is getting your team to play for you AND to understand what gets your players performing - even if that means simplifying tactics. Not for the first time, especially defensively, we looked clueless, lost, against wba. Unfortunately I think Ralph and Saints are wedded together. We can't afford another managerial change and Ralph is certainly at the moment damage goods with a couple of 9-0s to his cv and a terrible run of defeats. Hey if we win the semis then I'll try to believe in him again but right now I do not trust Ralph and I'm bracing myself for the heaviest defeat in FA Cup semi final history 😣 |
