I have a nice cv. Doesn't mean I'm a competent employee.

I know lots of you want tonys man juice on them but someone has to take the wrap for this mess. Saying Hughes is a cop out. Someone ran the shop.

There's threads on here re qpr1st....that and the day to day running of this club fall at the feet of our CEO.... Shirley?

Hunters post was excellent (back to the point) I met faurlins agent and he's not like most, he's sound, this is no bullshit, faurlin has been identified by beard as a sellable asset. And arry is on with that.

And sod allegedly.

Hary Redknapp, he of "wheeler dealer fame" and bit part player in countless Panorama shows, is interested in selling a player so he can bring someone else in, probably off Willie McKay's books???? Really?! I don't believe you.

Honest 'Arry! He'd never do that.

How is selling our sellable assets going to make us better? Which should only sell people (if we can) who are no longer good enough OR who we can replace with better OR we've been offered an amazing sum for.

Faurlin falls into none of these.

he said the exact same thing to me (and he doesn't even like me)

Beard's rep is awful.

You have a nice CV? WTF? We've all seen it and it consists of you name dropping "celebs" you've shaken hands with. That doesn't make a nice CV. You're now doing TEFL which is what most people do on their gap year before getting a real job. So are you suggesting all of his achievements are just made up?

When you say "sod allegedly" is this the same guarantee that you made last September that Amit would be leaving within a month? Sorry to not take what you say as gospel but you are a proven bullshitter who is happy to post unproven gossip as "fact" in the public domain to try and be "in the know".

Faurlin is a saleable asset. Don't think it really needed to be identified by the CEO do you? 'Arry might've been able to work that one out himself. Do you seriously think that Beard knocked on his door and said "Harry, I've got something you haven't thought of to raise some dough!".

Personally I think it will be a shame to see Faurlin go, but if he doesn't fit into the way Redknapp wants to play, or if Redknapp really doesn't think he's good enough, that's the managers decision.

His CV certainly looks impressive but I have 2 counter points:

1) I have a friend in the industry who was adament on day one of us being here that Beard is an overrated, overhyped, networker who has piggy backed off the success of others throughout his career and has never actually owner something soley from day 1 to the end. The 02 simply wasn't his result. He came in midway through and took the credit for others' results. This friend said this perception is widespread in the industry. And he's never worked with Beard so it's not a personal jealously thing. I trust my mate over an back scratching profile.

2) He simply failed to do anything of note since his arrival. In fact, he's presided over poor decision after another. Was long term strategy or particular 'win' has he been responsible for so far? There are so many small wins you could make with QPR that would tally up and could form the tactics driving a longer sterm strategy which in turn has been designed to help you reach your vision. I simply do not believe any of this high level strategic (with implementable tactics to bring it about) thinking has taken place. Beard is the CEO. If he likes taking the credit all the time then he has to take the flak for when he does a pap job.

And yes, I will slap myself for being in agreement with Scottydog.

Well there's no denying he deserves flak for certain decisions, or lack thereof, with regards to fan communication. But building a long-term strategy for a football club is completely different to almost any other business I can think of.

To be fair to both Beard and Fernandes' they put in place a long-term strategy based on keeping Hughes and his team and building the club over a number of years. That strategy was based on Hughes' expertise in building Prem teams and giving him the funds to do that. At the time, there weren't too many dissenters from the fans with this strategy. With the likes of Diakite, Granero and Cisse signing most fans couldn't believe our luck. On paper we had a great team and would be pretty comfortable. And this is where a business strategy in football is different to most other businesses. As a CEO or board member, there really is little you can do when results don't go your way on the pitch, other than change the manager.

I think it's easy to forget how far we've come in a very short space of time. If you think how amatuerish we were under the likes of Paladini and Tango & Cash, we were a laughing stock. It's not to say everything is perfect now, of course, but I do think we come across with a bit more professionalism as a club under Beard.

One thing worth noting is if Beard is just a guy who piggybacks off the back of other peoples successes, do you not think Fernandes and his backers would see through this? They're all successful businessmen. I'm sure they'd see through that quite quickly.

Yes and no. You'd hope they interviewed and recruited properly and he was the best candidate.

But a lot of high level jobs like that are hired through a more 'private boys club' mentality. He and TF, etc, could well have been friends, paths crossed, personal recommendations, etc and that could have been the driver. Equally, if, as is reputed, Beard is an excellent networker, then it's not much of a leap to believe he could easily persuade TF of his credentials.

I successful man is not necessarily a competent one. Opportunity, timing, luck and the ability of those you work with all play a part. Not saying he's not been good at the any of the jobs he's done; I have no idea. Just saying what a friend (in a very senior job btw) in the industry thinks, what he said most others think and what is widely know around the 02 role. Take it or leave it.

I personally think his performance since joining the club supports my friends assertions.

totally crazy sell off or lose all the championship players that got us promoted

as we are religated back to the championship

leaving us with the over paid losing wasters who cant be arsed in the prem to put in a REAL SHIFT christ how will they cope next season in championship

buy some quality championship players bring them into the team along with those players WHO ARE trying and who will be here next season

who knows they might even keep us up but if not at least we will be ready for next season instead of this mess of a train wreck we seem intend on creating!

hmmm....it's just struck me today. I was fine when I got up and went to work.

And, reading this board and some of the threads/issues has just got me more and more f*cking angry about it all.

You could put f*cking Dappy in charge of running the club and he'd make fewer mistakes.

Everything winds me up at the minute:
- Sign another midfielder when we've got more midfielders than lower league clubs have players
- Don't engage with the fans through forums, etc
- QPR's f*cking fb and twitter pages. ARGGHHHHHH!!! If anyone doesn't depise them they are a pr*ck too.
- Allowing our best f*cking CB to go manage somewhere else
- Being linked with mercenary after f*cking mercenary! WE'VE HAD OUR PANTS PULLED DOWN LIKE THIS ONLY 6 F*CKING MONTHS AGO RANGERS!!! HOW HAVE YOUR FORGOTTEN??!! DON'T DO IT AGAIN!!
- Letting King Mercenary go on strike and not sacking the c*nt for serious misconduct
- And finally...not the straw...the f*cking ANVIL that broke the camel's back....Letting one of our best players we've had at the club in the last 20 years go because he's had 3-4 poor games this season off the back of a horrible injury.

ARGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't feel like bringing a sign to LR on Sat, I feel like bring a gun.

Very interesting the stuff about Beard.

I do wonder how much of the Hughes 'We'll never be in this position again' stuff actually originated from within the club:

QPR's Philip Beard says relegation scrap is not an option following summer spending:

It seems to me that Beard is being criticised for things that are not really a part if his remit at the club as it currently stands. Rather than being an over-arching director of football style strategist like Dan Ashworth, Huw Jenkins, Daniel Levy, Beard's day to day role is apparently that of a deluxe administrator ensuring the running of the club, co-ordinating and delegating what the "specialists" at the club do. If the manager wants a player, he doesn't have a say in it he just relays it over to the shareholders and finance director and whatever and then brokers it. If Rigg wanted this and that for the training ground his job is to execute that. The emphasis on his personal field of expertise is in commercial development, branding, maximising entertainment revenue and so on.

For something of the scale of the 02 being a "networker" and "taking credit for the work of others" is actually kind of the point of being the CEO to some extent as I see it. To say "the 02 simply wasn't his result" is quite obvious - corralling a large multifaceted operation is name of the gig.

In short what I'm saying is that from the evidence so far it's probably less that he is personally incompetent as it is that his role in question at a football club was badly misconceived in the first place. And I'd very much doubt he's telling Redknapp who he has to sell.

According to Amit Bhatia in 2011:

"[... ]the virtue of the new leadership team of chief executive Phil Beard and Rebecca Caplehorn, the finance director, is that “they have no footballing experience, they’re just good, quality management”.

Mr Beard’s appointment was made with an eye for the future. The former chief executive of the 02, the former Millennium Dome in London’s Greenwich, he is expected to work on QPR’s ambition to move to a new multipurpose stadium."

Scott Jones likes to have a go at current board, some of which is definitely justified.
Has Scott suggested we should bring back his old pal Paladini yet?
If not then it's probably because he can't bring himself to take his hands off from jerking GP's penis for long enough to type.

Good (except for that caveat bit).

Knickers untwisted. Back in my box.

Re. Beard, fair points made above. And I'm not going out on a limb and saying he's not been good in any of the jobs he's held. I just thought the comments my friend in the industry had to make on Beard are interesting.

I also don't think he's done his job properly since being here. I'm not judging him on football management. I'm judging him on long term strategy of the club and the running of the club from 'engaging with fans', finances, 'building a brand', 'ensuring the future stability of the club', 'planning for the future' all the way to ensuring fans can get in the ground easily and they've got enough pies on offer so they don't run out.

None of this is his direct job to make sure happens. But he manages everyone beneath him to make sure this all happens. It's not. This is what he is accountable for. Ergo, I don't think he's doing a good job.
