Photos from the 1966-1967 Season (With Apologies for Posting) 08:38 - Oct 18 with 3108 viewsqprreport

Profound apologies for posting a link to my QPR Report Board - which I almost never do (although Clive has in the past said it was ok to do.) However I believe these are pretty unique and of general interest - at least to those who care about QPR's Past.

Our "Archivist" Bushman (who has the most amazing QPR collection I'm aware of - and knows what he has and where stuff is) has compiled and posted a series of Photos of THE Season in QPR History: 1966-67, many of which I had not previously seen (which go beyond the League Cup Final)

If interested, they're here
http://qprreport.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=general&thread=335

And apologies again

The only problem here is that these photos are used so regularly on the QPR Report site anyway that there is actually nothing new to see at all

I actually think touch photos and memories and tales of QPR History are fascinating - whether I was at the games or not - but obviously, to each their own.

(And actually No: most of these photos on this thread have NOT previously been on the QPR Report board: I'd know because I'd be the one posting them!)

I'm not over there often so thanks for the reminder.

Workington?

The pic of Les Allen Scoring is great, the keeper's technique is interesting as is his attire.

Some of the white city flats had a good view in those days?

As a matter of interest (i didn't start going till late 70s) I wonder how people who saw him think Rodney would fit into the modern game? I always wonder if the fact that Rodney has taken all the opportunities he has to prove himself a bit of a tit over the years has left him a bit under appreciated for the player he was?

+1

66-67 was my first season and this has provoked the memory that we played Darlington at home on Good Friday (4-0) and THEN Gillingham at home the following day (2-0), followed by Darlington away (0-0) on Easter Monday!

Three games in four days with a trip to Darlington of all places. Modern footballers who moan about having to play twice a week

Think I started 1964-65.

Nice to see a picture of the South Africa Rd halfway line Drum taken up to Birmingham. ( If it's the same one ? )

Never seemed to get too many injuries then, back in the day.
Nearly the same team week in week out.

Thanks for this.

Although I wasn't born when we played the 1967 Cup Final (well, not for 2 months), this game holds a special place for me as the WBA goalkeeper was my Godfather.

I've watched that final countless times.

Great memories and I shall be passing this onto his son.

Once again, thanks !

RIP Dick Sheppard

I've found a team sheet for the weekend - anyone interested ?

Thanks for posting these fantastic photos and for taking time to come over here and let us know. I don't remember seeing many of these photos before and, even if I have, its great to see them all together.

Thanks Bushman and QPRReport.

I never saw him play live, but listening to his recent interview (My Sporting Life on Talksport), got me thinking about this.

There was one point where he was talking about his own abilities, and the way he described himself did sound very much like Taarabt. One reason Marsh didn't fit in at Manchester city (and actually derailed their season) is that he liked to dribble with the ball, and Manchester City's team was based on fast passing and counter-attacking football. According to Marsh he was sacked by Vic Buckingham at Fulham for being a bit too flash. And he never really got a look-in in the England team either.
