We haven't actually spent money like water! 20:53 - Aug 23 with 1042 viewsDylanP

All this talk of QPR being a club trying to buy success and spending money like water is just nonsense.

Manure spent £24 m on Van Persie and £17m on Kagawa (£41 m for 2 players).
Arsenal have spent £16.5m on Cazola and £13m on Giroud and £11m on Podoloski (£41m for 3 players).
Scum spend £32m on Hazard and £25 m on Oscar (£57m for 2 players).
Liverpool spentr £15m on Allen and £10m on Borini (£25m for 2 players).
Citeh spent £12m on Rodwell
Spurs spent £10 m on Vertonghen and £8m on Sigurdsson (£18m for 2 players).

Right there are 6 clubs who have spent loads more than us in the transfer market this offseason. Apart from Hoillet and Park all of our transfers this off-season have been frees.

Yes we have brought in 8 players, but so have West Ham and Reading and nobody is giving them grief for being free spending. Yes we will be paying these players more than the ones they are replacing, but we have also shed 11 players, with more rumoured to be departing. TF actually claims our wage bill is cheaper now than last season. And the thing is, TV revenue in the Prem is £40-60 m (ten times more than the Championship), so we have revenue to back up any increased salaries. There is no point sitting on that extra revenue until its too late and we are going down.

All-in-all I would say that, given the obvious problems last year, MH and co have been very frugal this off-season; bringing in a mix of young and experinced on the cheap.

All this hype about us running amok with a bucket full of blank cheques is simply nonsense.

OK, I'll get off my soap box now!!

What has annoyed me today more than anything is that when we were reportedly going to spend £9m on Dawson it was "moneybags QPR" and we are buying success. Yet West ham are about to spend £10m on Jarvis and ridiculous amounts of money was being banded around to try and get Andy Carroll, yet nobody bats an eyelid.

Double standards I tell thee.

I think quite a few posts about transfer fees were prompted by the talk of Dawson, Carvalho and then Defoe. Partly because of the fact that we have wealthy owners, and partly because of Barcelona turning us over (and also because of lazy journalism), we seem to getting linked to everyone. In reality, no new players have been confirmed.

I also understand that we were one of the highest payers in the Championship, so it makes sense that a big wedge has come off the wage bill now that we have had a clear out.

I suppose what worries some on this board is that even after the Sky income, we may well incur losses, and we don't have the gate revenues / sponsorship / merchandising cash of some of these high spending clubs. We're gambling (we have no choice) with big money, but less protected if it all goes wrong or TF wanders off into the sunset.

"Thank you for supporting Queens Park Rangers Steep Staircase"... and I thought I'd signed up for a rollercoaster.

Or Sunderland spending £12m on Fletcher, but he is obviously worth it !!!

It's when we build the new stadium that the wage bill will squeeze - look how arsenal had to cut back and become a selling club while paying for that. Problem is we need the bigger stadium to pay the bigger wages - feels like we're getting sucked into some merry go round. Mind you, rather where we are now than five years back!

The amount of money we have spent is quite frankly disgusting.

That money could have been better spent on building a hospital or a lawnmower factory or maybe even a nice supermarket.

How about a nice lawnmower hospital.

Anyway, I thought we were a 'maverick' club - how about TF tells Sky to stuff their money - and their stupid kick-off times. We'll then ask the players to really show their commitment to the club by playing on a voluntary basis.

Lets say we had a squad of 40 players and half were on an average of 40K a week and the other half were on an average of 20K a week -- that would total 62 million in salaries a year. Income would be something like 60 m from TV revenue/Prem income, 10m from home ticket sales (average of 25 a ticket, 18K tickets sold a game, 20 games), another 10m from all other revenues including sponsorship, other ticket sales (cup, away, etc.), shirt sales, programs, food in the grounds, etc. Undert hat scenario we are making a profit of 18 million.

Those seem like reasonable numbers. Even if the salaries are an additional 10 me still make a profit. I don't see how the higher Prem salaries is going to kill us especially because we probably don't have 40 professionals on full salaries.

How about a stadium with a hospital underneath and a co-op supermarket. Everyone would have to love us then. Maybe we could make it a children's hospital for extra brownie points.

And Dave could chip in by selling programmes, outside the underground childrens Hospital, (or was it a lawnmower factory?).

Can you be outside something Underground?
