Just to add my view. I think people are too willing to overlook mackies weaknesses whilst not doing the same with Barton. I like mackie, backed him up from the one trick pony comment but also agreed with the positive stuff Barton fans have said. I'm suspicious on how much more mackie can improve. He's had his fair share of ordinary games but they get overlooked. I will state now I hope Jamie mackie is a rangers player at the start of the season, but I hope Barton is too. For me mackie will be a quality squad player next season, thats all. In the case of Barton, now Barton is no longer top boy, I can see his game improving immensely, thats if Hughes keeps him. I'm pleased we have Hoillet, he's a good addition.

Or some people are the other way around - willing to overlook Barton's weaknesses while hammering Mackie for his.

Can't see him getting in on ability unless we have a bad run with injuries. Also i have the feeling Hughes just wants the freak show surrounding that lunatic passed on to some other poor sod. I don't think he will ever play for us again. Hopefully

For those who don't know quite how good this kid is on the ball and what kind of vision he has. With Ale, Adel and Dave Jnr's vision and players like Cisse and Zamora to feed through we are properly going to destroy some teams this season.
And this kid can properly finish as well. With both feet.
Jesus, didn't realise he was that good - we can't have signed him, must have been his sh1t older cousin
Cisse will have a field day with Hoilet, Samba and Adel in the team
I hope
I've found a team sheet for the weekend - anyone interested ?

Not the same. The expectations of Barton on arrival were sky high, he failed to live up to them, but thats not to say he wasn't an improvement on what we had. Mackie on the other hand was starting from a low base, nobody expected much and he exceeded expectations. It's this that I think clouds the comparison. I don't slate mackie, I like the harrying and urgency qualities he brings to the table, like how man u used park at times. I've also liked his eye for a goal and timing of runs. In a 442 on the right, there are players ahead of him now. Useful to have in and around the team but not a first choice. He won't let anyone down but he's not in Hoillet or tarrabt class. Barton has let people down, himself and the fans but his performances relative to mackie last season were not to dissimilar, 6 and 7 out of 10 with the occasional 5 and 4. True mackie keeps his head better and is less of a knob but purely on their performances, not much between them.
