I’m going to say it again because it’s so astonishing.

Jimmy Dunne has had 50% more touches than ANY other player in our team this season. 1600 compared with 1200 for the next most (Cookie). So much of our attacking play goes through him.

https://fbref.com/en/squads/a7

Not a fan of these kind of stats, but Paul Smyth's stats as measured here are impressive.

Smells like a trout farm in here

Paul Nardi has had the fourth most touches in our squad:

https://fbref.com/en/squads/a757999c/Queens-Park-Rangers-Stats#all_stats_possess

We spent a lot of time pisballing around at the back early in the season.

If you calculate the number of touches per 90 minutes then Hevertton and EDB are just ahead of Jimmy, with Lyndon way out in front:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1uTMlDWJdFOF2sfTu0BcIa24F1ZvUxNkx5sqoCjjI

If you take a minimum of 4 * 90 minutes then the possession rankings are dominated by our defensive players, with Jimmy top of the pile on just under 67 touches per 90. And he's the only player with more than 60 touches per 90.

And it's slightly surprising to see Smyth and Saito with fewer touches per 90 than Madsen!

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/19VSkP3ewd6fx5WGk2jrdoMTU1oIt4geD4FlZJnRz

Of our attacking players only Ilias has more than 4 * 90 minutes with an average of over 50 touches per 90. That puts him eighth in our rankings.

Santos, EDB and Lyndon have barely played.

My conclusion from the stats (of which I’m also suspicious) is Jimmy is very important to what we currently do.

You're right.

That's why I took them out of the second table.

Jimmy is seeing far more of the ball per game than anyone else in our squad. But not 50% more, which is what the fbref total statistics for the season were suggesting.

But perhaps the more important stat is that he has played every minute so far this season.

Do I believe/care about any article from footballleagueworld? No.

Do I think that Sheffield United could enquire about Jimmy? Yes.

I doubt that anyone on this board has any idea as to whether the club have agreed a deal with Dunne, whether they have offered him a new contract that has been turned down, or whether the player has no intention of signing a new contract.

If we have agreed a new contract, brilliant. If we are still negoiating, hopefully we're not a long way apart & a compromise can be found. However, the last scenario would need careful handling!

Not receiving any fee for a Jimmy as a free agent would be a blow for Rangers & should be taken into account on any salary offer made by us. There is also the possibility that the highest wage we can afford is a lot lower than the player values himself. IF that is the case, then Dunne would have to decide whether to accept an offer from Sheffield United (or anyone else) at present or hope to receive something better from a different club in the summer. That would also risk the chance of an injury ruining his future.

Unless the club has decided to say goodbye this summer (good luck in explaining that to supporters!), any move is totally in the hands of Jimmy Dunne. We could not force him to accept a move this January even if it was in our interests for him to leave!

I have no doubt that he has enjoyed his time with us & has a soft spot for the club, but that won't/shouldn't influence his choice. After all, he chose to leave United & Burnley even though they had given his career major boosts.

This. Rarely do footballers support the club they play for. Whilst they may have a big soft spot for the club they play for, at the end of the day it's still a job for them and they will view their employer (the club) in very much the same way in which any of us would view any of our employers. I was very fond of a couple of the employers I worked for in my 20s. I still left for more money and opportunities for career progression though......

Jimmy Dunne is popular with the fans and been a key player for us this season.

But Yoann Barbet was also a popular and dependable player and we let him walk!

I would be surprised if we didn't make Jimmy some sort of offer. But you never know.

My guess would be that some sort of offer is on the table. But Jimmy's agent would have told him to wait until the end of this transfer window to see if something better comes along.

He's now 27 and coming into his peak years for playing and earning. He will sign for whoever makes the best offer. Loyalty will not be the deciding factor.

AYou would think that a contract has already been offered and negotiations are ongoing. Jimmy is a massive player for us in defence and attack, and we can all see how much he loves Playing here. Hopefully the money where offering is enough to get him to sign?

Implausible, but not impossible - like what you've done there - so there is a chance.

We need to get him to a phlebotomist before this deal goes through.

I had a blood test yesterday. Much as I like him I am more of a QPR fan than Jimmy, but I did not bleed any blue and white hoops. I have seen the test report already and can confirm that no such hoops were found.

Couldn’t it be that the club didn’t offer a very good deal because we spunked the housekeeping on Madsen and Celar?

Who’s fault would that be?

The 'group' (including, shock horror, MC, as well as everyone's - well, almost - favourite hate-figure) that Nourry alluded to when he share discussions about the left-back position over the summer. Unless he's just making it all up in public, I guess.

Well, I explained myself further down the thread but I really don’t think MC holds the chequebook or drafts the contract.

I have worked in medical research, and been trained to take blood, and I can tell you sir that there is no section of a blood work test that records the colour and shape (hooped or unhooped) of your blood.

You need to go private for that.

If I was him I would be wanting assurances re Marti's future. Keep going anywhere like we are and I dont see Marti here next season unless we are promoted.

He's not playing like he wants away or hes saving himself.

He dominates his opposition number in every game he plays, he's a leader and he makes things happen and is a goal threat/scorer.

The way he got hold of Lloyd the other night at Hull when he drew the foul and took the pressure off us was the picture of a man truly in the QPR fight.

I fully understand the Sheffield Utd interest, maybe even more now following the Hull defeat but i just cant see it.

In Marti we trust.

I guess we’ll have a pretty good idea around 2pm when the team sheet comes out.

Love him to stay but can understand if there’s a great offer on the table why he would
consider a move.

Right, here’s what to do. His Postie is Rangers, right?
Just get him round there, “couple of these need signatures, Jimmy ….”.

If his Postie has a decent sense of humour, he might already have done it.

So to be clear, I don't really disagree with most of that. Players come and go, transfers happen, the earth goes round etc.

The reason I don't like Nourry or people like Nourry isn't really related to transfers. I just don't like the culture changes that come with those kind of appointments. The spin, the manipulations, the marketing, the commodification of things that are supposed to bring us joy.

All the reasons people don't like modern football really.

My original point was more about those that will defend him to the point of obnoxiousness. If they want to claim credit for Varance, Kolli, Morgan or Lloyd (which some of them have) then you got to take the losses too. Losing Dunne on a free or a panicked pittance would be error on Nourry's part as much as getting Kolli a new deal was a success, if that was what happened.

Who'd be a CEO? Hubristic and extremely wealthy men mostly.

"Jimmy would reluctantly go"

I'm not for one moment doubting Jimmy's commitment to us. But if there is anything in this story then I'm not sure he will be that reluctant to go to Sheffield United.

He's 27, so he's coming into his peak playing and earning years.
He could be looking at PL football and PL money next season.
And he would be in line for a promotion bonus this season.

I don't know how generous promotion bonuses are, but given what's at stake I'm guessing it's a fair wedge.

I hope there's nothing in it and he is still with us next season, but I wouldn't blame him if he did take the chance of moving to one of the promotion favourites.
[Post edited 23 Jan 14:58]

You're not doubting JD's commitment to QPR, but then in the same sentence you say he'd be quite happy to join Wilder's Yorkshire gristle machine? Talk about having your barm cake and eating it!
