Forest Green away thread on 17:13 - Jan 18 by Duckegg | Watched the first 25mins of going no where football. Pass to the side then pass to the midfield and then pass back to the CB. Then the same over and over again... Dale need a change of tactics if it happened later on then I missed it due to what i watched earlier. |
Feels like players find passing, a 'good one-two', is more enjoyable than scoring goals and winning. Surely they are desperate for a win like us, maybe not. Maybe, its alreet, to come off another 'training' day. Were safe at the minute looking at the table. Rodney, Mitchell especially should be screaming for the ball. And the midfield to connect and form some of partnership and connection with them. Were a good team - just missing the drive and danger in the 3rd half of the table. Same old. Good passing performances, bad result. Are the players passing-stat driven? [Player gets home] other-half: 'How did the game go today love, did your team mates put in a good performance?' Player: 'We didn't win love were still in the top half, but i put in 400 passes and looks great on my CV' . Lets order a chinky'
Forest Green away thread on 17:44 - Jan 18 with 3775 views | Edindale | We are now 16 points behind a team who based on to-day are no better than us. Our defensive record is pretty good but we simply don't score enough goals. This I suspect is a direct result of our tactical approach. When we go a goal down we are incapable of chasing a game with sufficient urgency in order to get a draw. We are now out of the play offs but i think that we will still finish in the top 7. As mentioned earlier this is then a lottery and who knows what our form will be like by then. if there is any money left after the pitch repairs we should invest in another forward who can score a few for us before the end of the season. Despite their results today I think that Oldham or York will be champions. Onwards and upwards!
Forest Green away thread on 21:34 - Jan 18 with 3210 views | Porkydale64 | The game today was very frustrating,in my opinion the sideways and back passing didnt feel aimless at any point in the first half like it has done on many occasions ,we were by far the better side in the first half and 2 guilt edge chances should have been put away which would have ended a near spot on away half.Second half more even but such a sloppy goal to give away and kind of cemented our thoughts at the interval of what was going to happen.

We seem to be missing a real pain in the arse busy hungry terrier type striker someone like a Dagnall to hassle and move teams around at the back and ultimately can finish when the chance comes. We are all very nicey nicey, pass pass and a bit more pass it around plodding along and generally far too methodical when you just want something much more direct and clinical, similar to what we did at Fylde after going a goal behind. I still feel we lack a real general/captain type in midfield to grab games and a horrible annoying striker up front.

Bring Gary Jones back, he could probably still cope with the pace of this team.

The CRAB meister himself. I enjoy reading comments about "too much sideways passing"; when the man, seen by many as the GOAT, spent his career at Dale squeezing the ball out of his pincers to the left and right wingers...

Aye, a player who played both in the championship and a league cup final and was obviously rated by a fair few managers. What’s up, didn’t he want to have a night out with you and Paddy or summat?

I'd take a prime Gary Jones back in a heartbeat and twice on a Sunday, a position we've never really filled long term since he left, a proper captain | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Have to disagree with you there. Whatever Garys attributes where, the real "Crab Meister" in my eyes was Neville Hamilton. A good player and a likeable lad, sadly departed at a very young age. I remember during the Falklands war, we were due to play Sheffield United away in a midweek night match. Driving along the Esplanade and Neville had one foot on the zebra crossing. I stopped and he returned to the kerb. I waited and he started again on the crossing, only to change his mind again, wherupon I wound my window down and shouted, "I hope you move faster than that tonight Neville". I still remember the grin on his face. We lost the game 3-1, Neville played and he did have a propensity to pass it square, but still a good player. Can,t remember much of the game but driving home whilst still in Sheffield, it come on the radio that HMS Sheffield had been struck by an Exocet missile with loss of life. It put the result in context. She sank 6 days later. Its always stuck in my mind.

Forest Green away thread on 12:46 - Jan 19 with 2162 views | samueloneils | Having started the season with only 2 full-time strikers we now find ourselves unsurprisingly with a goals shortage. But all is not what it seems. Although Mitchell and especially Rodney may seem wasteful of their efforts, in fact 18 combined goals from 37 league starts is a fair result. What has been a disaster is the lack of goals from midfield. With the honourable exception of McBride with 4 league goals from 14 starts, the other 9 midfielders have scored a paltry 6 league goals from 104 starts. Compare this with some midfielders in the past 4 seasons: Lund 10 league goals in 2021 Keohane 10 goals in 2021 and 7 in 2024 Sinclair 10 goals in 2024 Hayes 7 goals in 2024 (in 22 appearances) In 2022 and 2023 the goals scored dropped badly in all areas. Imagine how a few extra goals from midfield could have made a points difference in so many of our narrow defeats this season. I also think starting Henderson in only 1 league game has not been a good solution, though presumably Hendo is happy with the arrangement. He is still our only natural striker positionally.

And next Friday, he celebrates his 40th birthday. His first appearance after that milestone will make him only our fifth player aged 40 and above.

In the same game, end of first half, Jonah surged forward and delivered the perfect ball (forward) for COG to score That's how to pass, no need to get crabby about it

Forest Green away thread on 12:20 - Jan 20 with 773 views | jonahwhereru | Of the highlights I was pleased with what I saw. Having played such little league football I thought we may be of pace, but we gave it a go. Played a few balls in front of Rodney and Mitchell, which is where I think both are at their best. Rodders look much more of a handful than in any game I have seen him in this season. I doubt FRG have had many tougher home games this season. Still plenty to look forward to this season. A game at Spotland would be nice. UTD
