Crap team tonight . Weak in the middle of the park, Sugawara out wide and nothing up front. 4-0 loss for me

Southampton XI: Ramsdale, Harwood-Bellis, Bednarek, Sugawara, Bree, Ugochukwu, Aribo, Walker-Peters, Dibling, Fernandes, Sulemana.

Sulemana should have scored that second half chance
And then our manager take of our two best players in the middle of the park and replaces them with dross and we collapse

Bring back Martin?

Or we could just invest in quality PL players.

Feel a tad sorry for the Boss. Selected players cant play for 90 minutes and he clearly doesn't know who to bring on and trust when they tire. We looked much better for 70 minutes but its the same old problem. We failed to buy a couple of goal scorers so all the promising attacking play just goes to waste.
What chance have we of picking up a first class striker now in January when we are just a few months away from being a Championship side again? This weakness up front has been so obvious for so long that it leaves me furious at the incompetence of those that had the responsibility of preparing properly for the Premier League.

Exactly right mate, so infuriating that our incompetent owners have not stumped up the cash for a premier league finisher .. Sulemana skinned United alive tonight but he just can’t finish he should have scored a hat trick . Danny Ings was our last premier league striker and that seems so long ago now . Meanwhile the likes of Bournemouth, Brighton ,Fulham and Brentford spend the cash well and strengthen .

Why have we fallen so far behind ?

A real gutter yes. But the players arnt good enough. It doesn't matter who is manager. We run Liverpool close too, when Martin was manager. If you.dont have the players, you.dont win games.

Spot on Southamptonfan.

I got slaughtered early in the season when I attempted to point out that it wasn’t all Russell Martins fault and that the whole squad weren’t good enough to compete at Premiership level, irrespective of the manager.

Here we are now with a different manager and “ yes” the playing style has changed, but it’s made no difference whatsoever to our results.

Fault for our current situation doesn’t rest with our managers. Fault rests squarely with Sports Republic’s total ineptitude in the assembly of a squad which never had the slightest chance of being competitive this season.

We were relegated weeks ago and unless and until our owner dispense with the services of the likes of Ankerson to name but one, we will not be playing again in The Premiership for many a season. Put simply, as two relegations in three seasons prove, they aren’t up to the job and never will be.

Totally agree. A new manager has obviously created some confidence tonight and renewed effort. We saw this against west ham too. But we still lost. None of us should be surprised when the players think "what's the point? We try so hard and still lose"

The best we've played for a few years in the PL and we are now seeing the Duric effect, no pissing around at the back and quick forward play, every time the defence or midfield get the ball (we're all conditioned to expecting the ball to go backwards) and now it's a forward pass at speed.
He's identified his best starting 11, Unfortunately the second string players aren't good enough, which is the fault of SR , and replacing Dibling with Smallbone was an odd move, when Archer could have come on to attack them.
If we'd had Duric earlier in the season we'd of definitely had a few wins on the board. He's a breath of fresh air. Let's support him and look forward to more attacking displays.

Smallbone started the move that led to Man United's first goal. As soon as he came on, the game turned in United's favour. Our midfield disappeared and they overran us, while Smallbone ambled about the pitch, looking lost. He can't even sprint. There is no way he should be playing at this level.

On a positive note, the starting eleven played really well and deserved to win. Pity about the awful subs. If we'd started with the eleven we finished with, we'd have lost 9-0.

I read that first goal as a reckless run from Downes into a bunch of players and a hospital pass to Smallbone. And then Downes has left a big hole in midfield.

And first goal, and pretty much everything else followed from there.

But I haven't seen the highlights so happy to stand corrected when I have.

Not clear from this how the Utd move started.

What an unlucky deflection of KWP though.

I guess we'd plenty of luck in the first off though with two players missing very easy chances.

This
We had a warning 2 minutes before when Downes gave it away as well
Total collapse after all those bizarre subs
I like Juric has bought too us we just have no quality after our first 11
So disappointing after that first 70 mins
