Southampton Planning To Keep Faith With Russell Martin But Why ! on 12:31 - Dec 11 with 2248 views | SonicBoom | Funny how last time we went down we had to lose players and cut jobs. When we made the play off final it was the world's richest game and critical to our finances and planning. It seems to me that we are OK with being relegated again. I can't understand that when there's so much at stake

I would abstain, but my next game is Fulham, and already got ticket. Plus I quite enjoy the Eight Bells for a pint !

Southampton Planning To Keep Faith With Russell Martin But Why ! on 13:41 - Dec 11 with 2106 views | saintjeff52 | At last, the intentions of SR are becoming ever clearer. They will retain RM, and oversee our Relegation to The Championship with a whimper. They will then assess our financial situation, and sell our top players to clear the possibility of us infringing Financial Fair Play. For them, and some of our deluded Supporters, they will hope, (expect RM ), to bring us back up again. What deluded Incompetents SR are. RM, playing his way in The Championship, BLEW automatic Promotion, and we luckily scraped through in The Play Off final, ( Yes it was a fantastic, memorable day, but we knew, given what had happened to Burnley, that playing his way in The Premier League would never work, and we would end up in the situation we are now in.) Shortsighted thinking by SR, to allow us to be relegated without a fight, as next Season sees the commencement of the new Sky Contract, which will bring even bigger riches to Premier League Clubs. Sadly, we won't be amongst them. RM has been 'found out'', and he will not be able to get our depleted squad back into The Premier League. We face seasons in The EFL, ( that is if The EFL don't kick us whilst we're down and impose points penalties for daring to aspire to get into The Premier League.) This Relegation will be the second in the three years under SR. We'll be scrapping in the lower leagues for a few years to come. This is so unnecessary. We have a proud history of membership to The Premier League, ( this is our 26th Season in the Premier league, and in that time we have been contributors to it's success ) With SR in charge, I fear it will be years before we return. My first Saints Game was in 1960, as an 8yrs old, on the ONLY occasion we actually won our Division, Division 3. I want My/Our Club to always do well, and over the years, by and large, it's provided Me with great memories. It's terribly sad today, to see us wasting an Opportunity to establish ourselves, once again, as a valuable Premier League contributor, and seemingly accept the inevitable Relegation. We are better than this, but it's the hoping that we'll change our circumstances, that's finally getting to me. I wish My/Our Club all the very best for the remainder of this season, and succeeding seasons. Once a Saint, always a Saint.

I don't really get this. If the plan was relegation, why spend nearly £100 million on new players in the summer? I don't see that it's a financially viable business in the medium to long-term as a Championship club. It's why there are so many sackings in the Championship. Clubs are desperate for the holy grail of the Prem. Sports Republic have not been guilty of under-investing in the club's squad. They have however been guilty of very poor recruitment, not replacing Wilcox, and making unnecessary changes to the ground which have made the atmosphere worse.

Wilcox was part of the problem, not the solution. He was a key part of Ankersen's Man City Lite strategy. It's actually a blessing that he wasn't replaced while the club is still in thrall to the possession game and tippy tappy players with no physicality. We need a DOF who can see that's all bullsh*t that takes us nowhere.

I suggest that atmosphere would change if We hadn't lost 12 of our 15 games. We didn't have a manager who refuses to change his tactics that don't work. We didn't have owners who gave Martin a 3 year contract. We didn't have so many happy clappers who seem to be happy at losing. We didn't have so many fans that want to sing about Pompey even tho they are not even in our division. If we could score more goals. If we could buy some decent players in January with a new manager. I don't think Sports Republic have under invested but have wasted what they have and now seem too embarrassed to do anything about it. [Post edited 11 Dec 17:25]

Have to agree a couple of times this season the atmosphere has been loud and the whole end all singing the same song together - just after we went 2-1 up against Liverpool for example. As you say getting beat most weeks and our slow play doesn’t get the atmosphere going - it would have been the same if the club hadn’t made the changes . Also we simply do not have enough songs other than Fulham we’ve probably got the least amount of songs to sing . If the changes had happend a year earlier in our promotion season then I’m sure a lot less would be moaning. Another point too many of our fans want the Northam to fail . [Post edited 11 Dec 19:27]

‘Sports Republic have not been guilty of under-investing in the club's squad.’ £98m seems a lot but when it’s spread over 7 players you can see what we’ve bought.

I'm not being told what to do by you or anyone else. I actually look forward to going to games, seeing friends and having a few beers, supporting the team through thick and thin. Besides, a few people boycotting will do absolutely nothing. Especially if they don't actually go to games in the first place.
