First time at home yesterday I felt we had a solid midfield formation, by that I mean the opposition were not streaming through the centre of the pitch, which usually has been the case this season. Thought that Varane, Morgan and Madsen filled the usual void we have very well. Preferred Field at centre back as well think that might be a better role for him in this team. Morgan also looks like a bit of a gem that has been discovered as well. Proof in the pudding is can they push on and keep improving and get that elusive first home win on Tuesday.

It's the first game I've not been able to go to this season, but managed to watch a stream.
Got to say that our midfield looked completely different compared to the rest of the season. Varane looks like he is starting to settle, and Morgan looks a real find.

Again though the final balls into the box from both Chair (surprisingly) and Smyth (unsurprisingly) lack quality. We are not creating enough quality ball into the box.
For our level of strikers we need to be creating 4 or 5 clear-cut chances per game, not 1 or 2.
It reminds a bit like when we had Hugill on loan, you knew he would sky 2 per game, but the 3rd would probably hit the net.
Frustrating, yet steps in the right direction, but can we back it up against Boro?

We are not making enough chances but when we do make them we have got to do better. Then we may start climbing up the league.

I thought Varane had his best match for the Club and Madsen was better. Morgan did OK too......thats why we were more solid in midfield because they all played much better.

And because there were three of them not two.

It was interesting to watch attack after attack progress via our midfield rather than through it as has been the case pretty much all season.

Refreshing, especially against an in-form team like Sunderland.

Agree.
Watching us at Home this season had been a mind-numbing slog so far; yesterday, I felt so involved and excited by this team that my son had to keep dragging me back into my seat

Which some of us have been calling for since the Sheff Utd game…

Yeah, I thought 4-3-3 actually worked much better for us than what we've seen the rest of the season. Crucially, it suited the new guys much better. Varane, Madsen, Morgan, Celar all looked much more comfortable. And despite us missing so many, what that line up gave us was a slightly greater physical presence. Quite encouraged by yesterday, and if Sunderland are a top six side, there really isn't that much to fear.

We won’t get too many sides playing open like Sunderland so it’ll be interesting to see how it pans out against crunchers.

It was loads better though.
