Not every player has to clock up massive running stats. Used to be the case that it was mostly your midfielders doing 10km per game. Now they seem to want most of the team doing it. Only £10m? Thought it would be more than that. McGuinness went for that didn’t he? Thought Smodzic’s stock would be higher as a goal scorer. [Post edited 28 Aug 10:09]

A ex player/manager of ours Molby is a fine example of conserving energy but when he had the ball he knew what to do with it , with great effect .

Not sure that he'd get away with that in todays game, but yes he was superb at pinging the ball to other players feet, a joy to watch, Ian Callaghan was another he was rather more mobile than Jan though

Those wobbling man breasts when he scored against Orient ? With Shilton in goal from a class free kick. Right across the NB. When we were running the MAGS (GITS) out of Gloucester he came up for an end of season dinner. Let’s just say a couple of the ladies on the hotel staff looked quite bedraggled leaving the hotel early the next morning 😂 And a bill for 56 bottles of beer was settled. Good lad Jan the man, and was poorly treated by the then owners due to his popularity with Swans fans.

Wycombe injury crisis and Siriki Dembele latest on 12:07 - Aug 28 with 1198 views | Dr_Winston | The example I keep coming back to (an extreme one admittedly but the general point stands) is Maradona. He once won MOTM in a game. Was head and shoulders the most influential player on the pitch. Once they actually looked back at the figures, he had possession of the ball for a total of 35 seconds. For some reason these days all managers and coaches want players to be robots, endlessly pounding up and down the pitch. Yes, to a degree you need players who will put a shift in, but it can't be all about that. Jason Scotland was another player who many accused of being lazy but when the ball dropped to him anywhere around the box he came alive, whether in the first minute or the 90th. The game is losing that IMO. Too much emphasis on accumulation of numbers, whether that be completed passes, miles covered, possession etc. Nowhere near enough focus on entertainment. Those moments in a game that get people off their seats.

100% agree a team is made up of different players, with different attributes, this nonesense of you must run around at 100% all the time, leads to burn outs or muscle injuries, there is a time to press and a time to get into a defensive shape to ensure we are secure in defence. Saturdays game kind of proved that players going at 100% end up needing replacing, Wingers usually get changed by most managers on 60 to 70mins mark but Cooper and Franco changed being out on their feet only for Cullen to be left on to assist Vipotnik who looked as if he could no longer put one foot in front of the other and had to be subbed, Key was changed because he has had previous muscle injuries, Eom also looked spent, Tymon by the end of games has expended so much energy that he is seen as a weak link by the ends of games and is targeted. Five changes allowed means half the team can changed but what about the other half who have been asked to play the high tempo and cannot keep it up. If the team is setup properly in attack and defence then the workload is minimised; sometimes when the ball goes out of play by getting into your defensive shape early means a rest can be had, If play allows, by taking throwing down the line quickly mean the opposition has to work harder trying getting back into shape, throwing it backwards means we lose position in threatening areas of the pitch while making rather midfield harder to get back to recieve the ball firstly and then forward up the pitch again, to get us back to the place we were already at. Unless of course you are the midfielder who has already drop back instead of being in the middle of the park to make the throw forward quickly a viable and supported option.

If he had an attitude problem as some have alluded to, I’m genuinely happy he’s not coming here.

We wouldn’t have paid anywhere near his salary. Report stated - We can disclose the first issue, and that’s his salary, rumoured, and it is pretty much around £13,500 a week tends to put the Swans off at prices like that. And if it becomes or is permanent you can be rest assured there will be another big fee by Swansea City standards. If he wants the salary he is on now we just can’t see him coming to Swansea. Even if he’s on loan, without a deal being done. He has seen his salary decrease a lot since leaving Bournemouth. Will he want another step down ? Unless some remarkable negotiations have occurred, and anything is possible, it doesn’t add up.
