Baggies Or Not Baggies... QPR Vs WBA Match Thread 08:25 - Mar 3 with 47966 viewsSpaceman_P

THAT IS THE QUESTION!!! (keeping it Shakespearian)

Ok guys, in good faith, I have started this post early yet again. As the vibes associated with such early-posts seem to help us/me.

I feel that Loftus Road may be another sell-out and just like the last three games - I still consider WBA to be a very important match. If we win this then we are in the ascendency.

Swansea (the most boring side after Stoke) will be in sight and dare I say it, we may even surpass Watford very soon, they're going down!!!

Lets hope the gods also shit on our surrounding teams.

So from the UFO, my heart says 2-1 win us. Another close game. Going for a Willock and Field goal.

CROWD needs to be the twelfth man.

Right... i'm off to make some Crop Circles near Andover.

over n out

Paul

PS. edited note (let's remember Chair will be experiencing Ramadan after next weekends fixture, so he's going to want to go out on a high)

Phewee what a rollercoaster that was. I don't know which way I want to feel... elated? Angry? Certainly full of pride for my team who never give up these days and ran the Baggies ragged second half. I knew Michi Frey was going to miss that pen, I bet you did too... And at that point, and then after Cook's? header? that Kipre handled, I was fuming... but managed to calm down pretty quickly, because, well, because IN MARTI WE TRUST!

My main take away from tonight is how good we look now. A far, far cry from the shambles that we were before Marti joined us. We look like a proper, well-organised, Championship side. 20 shots we had in that game to WB's 5. 6 on target. We're also fast becoming a dangerous side. And I love it!

So, a Desmond it is, up to the heady heights of 19th, we move on to Saturday and Boro. Destiny is in our hands!

PS - well done Spacey, still unbeaten!

Just watching the penalty miss back, that was shite wasn't it?
What was he doing there FFS?

Thing is, I was convinced he would score it. Grabbed the ball, looked so focused ,intense, steely eyed even, run up like he was gonna rip the net off and then.... well, it was a bloody back pass. Prat. He choked and mis-hit the bloody ball.

Not an odd decision to give your CF free reign on Pens, probably a game or two too soon for him in such an important game for us though (hindsight, great innit).

Couple of goals on Saturday though please Frey... no penalties, leave them for Colback.

The officials, tossers.

Thought he might have rushed it a tiny bit as well?

I'm not sure, so interesting to see waht others thought at the time. Will have to watch it back but the studies of late show that players who take their time to re-set after the whistle is blown are far more likely to score.

Yes, agree. That contributes to an unclear mind. Take your time, reset, decide what you're going to do, and execute.

To his credit, Corboran was very fair in his post match comments. Said that a draw was the very best they could get from the game.

Albeit whilst failing to acknowledge that Kipre got away with cheating.

I think it can only be one or the other now?

Pen and a yellow, but not a pen and a red?

I wouldn't swear on that, but I think I remember PinnerPaul telling us that.

Replays showed that Kipre used his hand to prevent a goal - an offence which would almost certainly have resulted in a red card as well as a penalty had it been spotted.

The biggest problem for me Brian was nobody really wanted to take the penalty. Field was going to take it but only because everyone else backed away then Frei stepped up.

It didn't really matter tbh.

Great performance, 19 corners and 20 shots. Any team showing that much quality, tenacity and desire does not get relegated. Our tails are up, the belief is there, I truly believe that was the performance which confirms the change in our culture of failing to turn up for games. Marti has transformed this club in a matter of months and listening to the comments from Cook after the game, the players believe in him implicitly.

Marti has really got this team ticking and he's so on his game in terms of managing players - like giving Willock a break tonight for example - I thought that was possibly risky, but now that our confidence and form is really starting to soar, he can afford to make these kind of tweaks. Clever, clever manager. So fcking impressed with him. It's some kind of mad football drama what we've been through the last couple of seasons: from the ridiculous to the sublime.

Really enjoyed that tonight

We're a proper team who never stopped working .

Field motm but Dunne running him a very close 2 nd . Special mention for Frey who worked his arse off and gutted for him that he missed the pen but at least he had the balls to take it as nobody else was stepping up

The one time you want Dykes on the pitch.

Strongly agree with this Stanisgod if Dykes was there the roof was getting ripped off the net.
I thought Marti might switch him and frey early in the second half to be honest it looked like on TV he wasnt great.
Like Brian Mac typed he rushed it then instead of hammering it tried to sidefoot it into the corner and the keeper guessed right

Ya, I looked up the rule a few minutes afterwards Ted.

Looks like it should have been a pen and a red.

Scuffed it as well. Don't want to bash the guy because he put himself about tonight but a pressure moment like that and sadly, he bottled it.

His pressing was exceptional tonight, but yeah crap pen

He’s miles better than Dykes

Great performance tonight and fantastic atmosphere

Fantastic game.

Something enjoyable at LR; been a while!

We're going to be OK, aren't we?

Was there.

I was sure we would miss the pen, although I thought Frey would blast it.

But he has some engine and was an important cog in the wheel tonight. Constant closing down was severely impressive. Maybe it did not show what he did on TV but he was very decent.

But to be fair, that was some performance. If that team gets relegated that is really hard to comprehend.

Marti has performed a miracle.

Most entertaining game I’ve seen down there this season. Any other game we’d have won by two or three.

That game did remind me a bit of that 0-0 with Newcastle in the first season back up im the top division. But hopefully this one isn’t a false darn.

Tonight is what this club is about. Not trophies ( as if) or megalomaniacal players

It was about quality, entertainment, heart and skill.

Just like Stan.

Of the 3 forwards we have, I thought Frey was the right choice.
I like Dykes as a team player, but, by god, he's on his heels all the time.
Free worked hard and isn't as slow as we feared!

A poor penalty for sure, but his pressing tonight was excellent and a big part in ensuring that their defence weren't able to settle.

Fair enough: the penalty was shite but it was only one kick out of the whole game. Frey put in a monster of a shift today, along with Cook and Field. That is one strong spine.

Penalties? Nah, too easy. We'll score the proper way thanks.

The team did Stanley proud tonight. What a great tribute to play like that on this specific night. It would have been fairy tale stuff if Cooks scissor kick had gone in to decide the match. But that should not stop us enjoying what we are seeing. The Marti transformation in full effect!
