Never listened to the album but NGD is such an almighty banger of a track.
I agree with Monkey Roots, even the best albums have one or two lesser tracks.

And the story behind it -
Band wanted to make a double album and sell it for the price of a single album. Record company said said No, commercial suicide. So band said “can we make a single album and gives away a free 12” single/EP with it ?” Record company agreed. Band put 8 tracks on the ‘free’ EP (and added another unlisted on the cover and switched the rpm from 45 to 33 at the last minute.
Commercial suicide bit them onntheir next release - Sandinista, a triple album for the price of a double….!
The best tracks from Sandinista make a fantastic album though mate. Spotify is great for doing just that.

I've three from a long time ago as I stopped buying records from the mid 70's. Mortgage payments, beer & football took priority!
Paul Simon Songbook - Recorded & released while he was living in England performing on the folk club circuit. The first recording of Sound of Silence & I Am a Rock, but I'm still in awe of A Very Peculiar Man, He Was My Brother & Side of a Hill.
No Secrets from Carly Simon & Tapestry by Carol King are my others.
Tough decision this and some great selections so far.
Off the top of my head a top ten might be:- Joy Division - Closer (it just shades Unknown Pleasures for me) New Order - Movement (my most played album ever although Technique is better) Aphex Twin - SAW Vol 1 Scott Walker - Scott 4 Badly Drawn Boy - Born in the UK ABC - The Lexicon of Love - Pure polished unadulterated 80s pop. Every track a winner. The Cure - Seventeen Seconds. The The - Infected. Buzzcocks - Love Bites Talk Talk - Spirit of Eden (all in one sitting that one to fully appreciate)
I could maaaaybe stretch to a top 10/20, though these aren't "best" but favourite - also I find dance/electronica/hip hop don't always lend themselves to the album format. So there's lots in those genres that are missed here

I remember the late lamented Q magazine, doing a 250 album list of the best of 25 years (1986-2011); It was chosen based on reader submissions of their own top 5.

I preferred The Bends and added The Joshua Tree (U2), Stone Roses, Automatic for the People(REM) and Plastic Beach (Gorillaz).
The only one I'd change would be to add Lost In The Dream (War On Drugs) from 2014, removing Plastic Beach.

Honourable mentions: - Soundgarden: Badmotorfinger. No fillers, sonically varied, songs which draw you in - Tool: 10,000 days: Clean and punchy, so much going on - Tangerine Dream: A three track masterpiece. The first two tracks so expertly combine great tunes, sound effects and atmospherics that I have no idea how the band could possibly have created them. The final track, full of foreboding, builds to a climax, then spirals down into something completely different, a sonic otherworld of bubbling, overlapping rhythms and patterns, complete with weird voices and wolves howling in the background. The album is not all about electronics, there's piano in there and also a lot of electric and acoustic guitar, but also, crucially, it features a real, live human drummer and that propels it along superbly. - Ride: Carnival of Light: Very varied, beautiful, catchy tunes, full of interesting sections. - It Bites: Map of the Past. Catchy, sing along tunes, unpredictable sections galore, no fillers - The Future Kings of England: Epic, yet eerie and haunting prog and not at all derivative, they have their own distinctive sound
There are so many others I could have mentioned, but the best one? It's pretty much a three way tie for me, between Gentle Giant's Gentle Giant and Acquiring the Taste and Black Sabbath's Paranoid.
Paranoid, man, what an achievement! Obviously, there's lots of heavy riffing, lots of time changes too but wait: There is also hardcore, psychedelia, and punk in there, plus the lyrics tackle some serious issues (and not so serious in the teasing final track),
I can't ever decide which of the two GG albums I prefer but they are choc full of inventive tunes, unexpected mood changes and wonderful vocal harmonies. Some of the music is heavy too and there are loads of clever riffs. Actually, their record company has taken away the agony of choice because the two albums are now available as a twin pack.

Simple minds to a lot a people are mainly known for Don’t you forget about me . A track they didn’t even write or wanted to a record it but were persuaded by management that it may break them in the states , which it did . Well worth looking into their early work as it’s superb. The cures head on the door is stunning album as is killing jokes. Great choice .
