Sounds intriguing, enjoy. I haven't been but "Behind the Curtain: Football in Eastern Europe" by Jonathan Wilson might prove interesting background reading. I enjoyed it and it does cover Serbia.
"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."

I went to watch Partizan about ten years ago. Can’t remember who they played. Pretty underwhelming ground, no more than half-full, no visible away fans, a seriously tooled-up police force, and most of the crowd looked like they’d be a bit tidy in a ruck. Think we bought tickets on the day for somewhere behind the dugouts. Spent fuc king ages trying to find our gate. I remember that.
We walked to the ground from the city expecting there to be lots nearby, but from our direction, there wasn’t much going on, and the cafe bars we were in were quiet.
Belgrade itself, I liked. A nice city for mooching and having a beer and cevapi. Locals were all nice enough, didn’t see any bother in town over the weekend. Having committed to not talking about politics, I got collared by a Modern European History lecturer who was very keen to discuss the Balkans wars and NATO’s bombing of Belgrade. Interesting bloke, but it sort of brought down the weekend-away vibe.
I think it’s an underrated weekender - sure you’ll have a great time.
PS. If you do get in a spot of bother, just give it some, “Mitro’s on fire!” which he now get sung to him when he plays for Serbia.

Great stuff. I’ve hoping for a Red Star home game.
I’ve been to Novi Sad for a music festival in my youth where let’s just say the British and the RAF aren’t very popular.

I went to the Belgrade Derby about 10 years ago. It was absolutely incredible but I went with a mate who's half Serbian and regularly travels over there for games. I wouldn't have fancied it without a local with us. He knew what to do to get us there, into the ground and then back safely afterwards, without running into opposing fans or riot police. It was a very menacing atmosphere inside and outside the ground. That's probably because it was Red Star v Partizan and it may be fine for a normal game.
I think it's the only game I've been to where the away fans were in two separate sections of the away end (separated by riot police) and spent the whole game lobbing flares and missiles at each other despite supporting the same team.
I'll see if I can dig out any photos or videos.

Don’t believe the hype are my words of advice. You can pay on the door, even for the derby. Message me nearer the time, he was going to open a new bar, but COVID etc

Not been to the football there but visited Belgrade about 10 years ago and ended up having dinner in an 'Allo Allo themed restaurant. Fck knows why it was there.
Wore an Rs shirt wandering around town one day and got a few positive comments and chats with locals who recognised it
