Chester City on 10:27 - Jan 8 by Kilkennyjack | Correct. If you choose a location in Wales then welsh government rules apply. Even the Royal Mint in Llantrisant is bound by senedd rules. Its a very easy thing to understand if you start with a map. European nations deal with it every day, its not something to cry about. |
Agreed. How do you feel about Welsh taxes paying the wages of footballers at an English club?

If they are registered with a Welsh address and pays taxes in Wales there should be no question they should be compensated by the Senedd.

Chester City on 11:33 - Jan 8 with 1625 views | pencoedjack | Let’s hope this doesn’t escalate & the question from our friends in England don’t question why Welsh clubs play in the English league. & still 1000s of Welsh fans to continue to travel to away games helping their businesses whilst our hapless Mickey Mouse government stop us watching games in a open stadium. I’ll it will be even more laughable if the WRU play games in England.

Chester City on 08:30 - Jan 8 by Scotia | But the office, and assume the address is in England. The Welsh government should compensate for every single seat in the ground and every pie that would have been sold. I'd rather my tax be spent on the NHS. That £120 million won't last long. |
Limiting big group activities during a spike is compensating the NHS. Prevention is better than spending on cures.

Chester City on 21:01 - Jan 7 by Whiterockin | 1st thing Wales is a couple of weeks behind England so you can't compare. Infection rates in England are below Wales as they are dropping. Fatality rates are a couple of weeks behind. 2nd the Wales death rates are never 100% correct as mid Wales have poor emergency services and general hospitals so Welsh patents are showing up on English stats as they are taken to English hospitals. Then we scrap Wales as an international team and hand over running of all football in the 22 administrative areas to the FA from school to professional level. Restrictions in Wales have stemmed the infections rates well below those in England where 24 trusts are days away from being officially declared in crisis. Its the difference between planning and crossing your fingers while hiding in a fridge.

I don't believe it is, I really don't. In fact Drakeford himself has said its not the event but the ancillary activities such as travel and pre event hospitality. So why not put in extra measures there? Welsh covid rates are climbing at a similar rate to England. Banning them is an easy way out, that's what Drakeford has done since day one. Stop an activity as the initial option. Perhaps limiting capacity and insisting on wearing masks would have been a better starting point. Kids going to school and being looked after by grandparents are a likely to put a bigger strain on the NHS. Any benefit to the NHS is likely to be in the short term too, think about those who would have started running as part of a new year's resolution but didn't because there are no park runs and those who would have been inspired to take up sport by going to a live event over Xmas. All sports clubs in Wales should be submitting a large bill to WG.

So why not put in extra measures there? Because people do not follow the rules. Welsh covid rates are climbing at a similar rate to England. No they are not. When the decision was reviewed covid rates in England were 1:25 in Wales 1:5. Banning them is an easy way out, that's what Drakeford has done since day one. Stop an activity as the initial option. Not banning mass gatherings in early 2020 were and still are being pointed to as a reason why covid flew out of control in the uk. Perhaps limiting capacity and insisting on wearing masks would have been a better starting point. Look at any pictures from our games and you will see only a tiny minority wore masks. When we had limited capacity the concourses were jam packed. Kids going to school and being looked after by grandparents are a likely to put a bigger strain on the NHS. True, but grandparents should have received 3 jabs. And let’s be honest schooling is far more important than football. Any benefit to the NHS is likely to be in the short term too, think about those who would have started running as part of a new year's resolution but didn't because there are no park runs and those who would have been inspired to take up sport by going to a live event over Xmas. Really! People can’t run outside organised events! Straw clutching at its most extreme. NHS problems are not simply caring for the sick this time round but are also having to deal with a rapid staff shortage caused by staff catching covid at the same time. All sports clubs in Wales should be submitting a large bill to WG. They will. Unfortunately we, unlike England, can’t write an unlimited cheque against Westminster borrowing.

The Border is weird Killy. The section of Flintshire that sticks into Shropshire has an area called the Shropshire Lake District .We swim in the lake at Hanmer. On the A483 you go through and out of Wales at many points.. Its not like many American state borders for sure.

People don't follow rules and that's the excuse for shutting things down rather than adapting? That's pathetic, defeatist and costs the country £120 million. What hope do we have if that is the case? Of course people can run without organised events, but less will. Drakeford should be encouraging this in a pandemic the effects of this are made worse by inactivity. Over half the adult population have been boosted, the vaccination argument stands for all activities. Personally I'd rather £120 million was spent on the NHS than subsidising millionaire sportsmen's wages.

Great point. All the money wasted on both Brexit and Trident should have gone on the NHS. Likewise the new Royal Yacht, Andrew Windsors legal costs, dreadful Liz Truss trade deals, HS2, Crossrail, Heathrow expansion, plus the cash for access/VIP routes for Tory donors ….then its a Tory rum do. Politics matters cos its about choice and priorities. Annibyniaeth ðŸ´ó §ó ¢ó ·ó ¬ó ³ó ¿

Personally I’d prefer £37 billion lost on England’s failed @nd trace system have been better used! Wales' track and trace worked for next to nothing by NHS achieved better results. Germany also did better on £800 million.

Is it the right time to inform Chester of their obligations under the welsh language act, that all signs in Wales should be in both languages…? Otherwise just fine them. ðŸ´ó §ó ¢ó ·ó ¬ó ³ó ¿

I don't propose spending any money on anything. Quite the opposite really. My personal opinion is that its entirely pointless doing anything different to England, whether what they are doing is a right or wrong. If anything, it's probably wrong. But what we've done is go for the extreme shut down and easy option. It's what Drakeford does he takes the easy way out, trust me. He always does the. Not having the 6 nations games in Cardiff will apparently cost the Welsh economy £60 million pounds. £60 million. That's half of the allocated £120 million gone straight away. Before you consider the club rugby games, Swans, Cardiff, Newport and Wrexham. [Post edited 9 Jan 2022 22:12]
