Games without crowds 07:50 - Jun 29 with 2015 views | sotonian | Long time since I’ve posted on here, Hi everyone 👠These lockdown games without crowd influence mean, there are virtually no shock results, which is probably why none of the bottom 5 are winning, we are better than Norwich and Watford so we won both, we lost to Arsenal because they are better than us, we will lose to Man City for the same reason the bookies are getting hammered at the moment with accumulators

Did you hear Shane Long shout something like 'fvckin hell ref' in the first half of yesterday's game ? The commentator was quick to apologise for any bad language viewers may have heard. :-)

There has been a lot of research into why home teams win more than away teams and they found the main reason was the influence of the home crowd on the match officials. Home crowds win penalties and free-kicks for their team and yellow and red cards for the opposition although the introduction of VAR has helped away teams a bit. [Post edited 29 Jun 2020 13:02]

A good crowd can get a team going, I still think we would have won, but at both Norwich and Watford the crowd would have got behind them and kept them going a lot more

There are usually stats for players' top speeds during a match, and how many kilometres they run. I wonder if those figures have fallen during these matches played in empty stadiums? Also, I wonder whether that helps Vestergaard because he looked much more comfortable in our last match than he ever did before. He obviously must have impressed in training, which is why the manager kept picking him. [Post edited 29 Jun 2020 15:06]

What about the travelling and often poorer facilities for the away team and just the general unfamiliarity of surroundings? Cortese obviously thought this was an issue with his specialist mattresses for each player and taking our own food etc...

Almost no effect according to the research. When there are no crowds, there is no home advantage. The mattresses were to stop them picking up bacteria and viruses from hotel ones, which would have affected them more in the following home game.

Viruses in hotel beds? It’s like the crime shows where they turn on the UV light to see if a couple had sex.....and there’s ‘jizz’ absolutely everywhere.... Or in protsmouth’s case, shit.
