Indeed.

I feel angry with them both to be honest.

Equally if they think that schools going back is wrong (I have no idea whether it is or isn’t - I can see both sides) they have to say so. Publicly.

Or allowing shops to open in just over 2 weeks (perhaps a little longer).

The problem is as far as I can see from following a lot of the scientists as I have been doing since the start, cases are now very, very low in the general population apart from a few areas, mainly in the North of England. But remain stubbornly high in care homes, and there’s a problem in some hospital settings. They can’t be honest about it, as they’re trying to hide the ongoing care homes issue. So people think it’s far less safe than it is and none of it makes sense.
Together with the breakdown of trust caused by Cummings and Johnson, it’s a disaster.

But I also believe Wales is doing things badly as well. By keeping a far more stringent set of measures (which is harming a lot of people) than necessary because they still cant get to grips with testing.

At the end of all this, the need for inquiries into governments and advisers on a UK and devolved level is overwhelming.

Unsurprisingly, I have some sympathy for the advisors. We don’t know, and maybe never will, what they’re advising, when and why. And many of them are hamstrung on what they can say publicly without resigning. Which is a massive step to take.

By the way, you’ve been telling us for a while that there’s very little difference in lockdown measures between England and Wales. Now we have a “far more stringent set of measures”?

But I don’t disagree with your general thrust. When you consider that we knew this was coming, had about three weeks notice of what was happening in Italy, Spain and elsewhere, the handling has been catastrophic.

Sorry, badly worded as I changed what I was going to say half way though. The measures should have been a reference to Wales and England. The just Wales bit was about stringent messaging which I see as the main difference (distance bit apart).

I don’t think we did have 3 weeks on Italy by the way. I think that’s been one of the problems. It was here far earlier than people thought.

It probably was but that doesn’t change the fact that even if it was here we knew it was coming and we knew the devastation it would bring. I’m not sure that actually makes sense but I’ve had a few now. But anyway, hindsight is king as always.

Well done to Jonathan Van Tam for not beating around the bush and stating that Cummings was wrong.

The first to have the guts to do so.

Also for reminding people of their personal responsibility (which many seem to be forgetting).

So the police are happy that he didn't break the rules,
One of the two 'witnesses' did a 250 mile round trip himself,
the other has admitted to telling lies and doctoring info on an app (but it's ok, it was only a JOKE...because lying and manufacturing evidence in order to get somebody sacked is very funny apparently).

In other news the BBC has admitted that their 'journalist' Emily Maitlis is biased.
It appears she is free to carry on in her job as the presenter of their flagship political show though.

I wonder if he'll start suing people. Starting with the 'news'papers.

Funny how there are many Labour and SNP politicians who are guilty of the same behaviour as Cummings yet most of them have not been removed by the leadership who demands Cummings' head.

…and still some people lap it up.

The thing that really turns my stomach though is the bullshit about Cummings must go otherwise the public will no longer follow government's message...the people who blew this up and have spent every waking minute trying to whip the public up since ARE THE VERY PEOPLE RISKING PUBLIC HEALTH BY DESTROYING PUBLIC FAITH IN GOVERNMENT MESSAGES (which are messages crafted by the scientists and experts in public health after all).
...and all as they hide behind this pretence that they give a single shite about those who work for the NHS.

Aye aye, Mr Angry's had a shandy.

Your last paragraph would be more accurate if it was about Dominic Cummings. Destroying public faith in government messages is a hell of a lot easier when one of the most senior people in the government ignores them.

Nobody in the general public would have ever known about his decision for his family (like you all made decisions for your families) without the intervention of those who wish to play politics during a national crisis and use it as an opportunity to remove a figure who had long been demonised by the left.

Your first paragraph sounds like 'Dom would have got away with it if it wasn't for you meddling kids'. So is it fine to break the rules as long as you don't get caught then?

If this had been a prominent Remain supporter, you'd be screaming for their head far louder than the 'left' you so despise are calling for Dom's.

Yes, it's the people criticising him who are playing politics, not the minority desperate to defend him because his politics align with theirs. If you take a look at the posters scrambling to find a way to defend Cummings on this forum, it's a motley bunch at best.

Who are the grown-ups in the Tory party that have convinced you to vote for them out of interest?

The Labour MP resigned her junior whips post. Did the right thing after breaking the rules that Cummings was instrumental in drafting.

Cummings broke the rules that he was instrumental in drafting by going to the castle on his wife's birthday as confirmed by the police. He also risked his family's life by driving with defective eyesight which breaks the road traffic act 1988. It's also utter lunacy.

Another supporter of unelected bureaucrats. How very consistent of you.

the left wing teacher witnessed the trip to Durham that Cummings himself corroborated from the garden of Number 10.

it was someone else that made up the 2nd trip.

You can apologise now Pikey.

all other politicians / senior figures caught breaking rules have apologised and/or resigned, except for Cummings he claims he did no wrong. The police say if they'd seen him on his trip to barnard castle they would have sent him home. So if DC is so adamant he was in the right, surely he would have ignored the police officers instructions and carried on.

Interesting that Cummings felt he had to get back to work because he was needed, But Raab who was acting PM at the time had no clue where he was and didn't even ask about his whereabouts. Just goes to show Cummings is important to Johnson and no one else.

For every health advisor that tells them “if you open up too soon then more people will die unnecessarily!” there will be about twenty financial advisors screaming in the other ear “if you don’t open up immediately the economy will suffer!”

Which set of advisors will the Government lean towards I wonder? Lives or money?
