Has voted to criminalise abortion at every stage of pregnancy, with no exception for rape and incest. Abortion is now a class A felony, meaning doctors found guilty of performing abortions could be punished with up to 99 years in prison.

In the same week, the US reportedly draws up plans to send 120,000 troops to Iran.

A few hours previously that child could well have been in its twenty third week.

You see where this is going.

No. It doesn’t.

As I said earlier, there is a possible question about bringing it down to c. 20 weeks due to medical advancement, but as no baby has ever been born and survived at less than 22 weeks, halving the limit to 12 weeks is unfounded and spurious.

When I attended my boys 12 week scans, I knew i was looking at another human being. I would go as,far to say it's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. At 20 weeks the gender was clear.

Prior to that ,I would have said I was very definitely pro choice, my views changed in that instant.

To terminate the right to life of the unborn child at 20 weeks, I'm afraid is not acceptable to me.

Religion doesn't come into it.

And that’s wonderful and you’re lucky to experience that.

Others, however, are not so fortunate.

And it’s absolutely fine that it’s not acceptable to you. Don’t do it then. But you have no right to force your view on those who are in a very different position or have a different view.

I don’t think I would have done it if I’d been in that position. But that’s me. I wouldn’t dream of imposing that view on someone else. No one is saying ‘you have to have an abortion’. People are saying ‘it’s the choice of those involved’.

Only women have the right to decide about their own bodies.

You cannot have 25 middle class white men telling millions of women what they can and cannot do with their bodies.

This will soon be reversed.

Feck Trump.

He emboldens the alt right arseholes.

He leads the Republicans, so ....

‘All of the bill's 25 "yea" votes were from Republican men, including State Sen. Clyde Chambliss, who ushered the bill through the chamber. The remaining two Republicans, both men, did not vote.’.

Its a fact that suggests that it might represent a narrow viewpoint.
Perhaps even a privileged viewpoint.

Especially as the legislation specifically targets a different part of the population, ie women.

Its not a good look....

The whole ethos of the religious right in the States is f*cked up.

The same people that believe in this situation that ALL life is a sacred, precious gift from God (even before it is actually life) also believe that the little brown kids being separated from their parents at the border are sub human and don’t deserve sympathy because they’re INVADING the country.

I live here and two things I can't my head around and I have been living here for six years are the gun laws and the whole abortion thing. The rest of the developed world have sorted out abortion in the sixties and seventies , even Ireland voted to legalize abortion, but here it is different and the religious right especially in the South has this thing they have go one better than each other, now here in Georgia it was the detection of a heartbeat , but in Alabama it is a full out ban in the practice. The Bible Belt and the rest of the Republican leaning states are returning to the Middle Ages and it just shows how screwed up the religious right is.

I agree its the choice of those involved, however the one most involved is the unborn child. it's their life. somebody must speak on their behalf.

For me its not even a question of whether the baby could survive at 20/24 weeks or earlier. A full term baby can't survive by itself.

I am not against abortion on religious grounds and I'm not against abortion in all circumstances

As I said in my earlier posts, it boils down to when you believe human life begins, if you don't believe its at the point of conception, then it is at some arbitrary point between conception and birth and that arbitrary point can be moved around by politicians.

Doctors, not politicians. Because they say when it’s actually an unborn child rather than a potential unborn child.

Tell me this. Do you believe that someone on a life support system in a permanent vegetative state can ever be turned off or is it an absolute necessity that they remain hooked up forever?
