Has there been any progress on the training ground? I would have thought, particularly over the last couple of months, the club would have been quite vocal on progress as a ‘good news story’. It’s been five months since the final appeal was rejected, but I don’t think there’s been any updates?

I've been wondering this. The last public statement was in my interview with Hoos who said the first pieces of work we'd see were trenches being dug across the site as a second stage of the archaeological survey (making sure it's not a Roman burial ground), then an asbestos survey of the existing buildings and then demolition of them. Be interested to know anybody local to see if any of that is actually going on down there. Like you say, you'd think they'd want to steam in there and get it going...

At the very least I would have expected some feasibility studies on funding options. There was talk of a Bond scheme but that doesn’t happen overnight and won’t happen at all if there’s no appetite for it. They can’t move ahead without knowing how they’re going to fund it. Eerily quiet.

Pre construction surveys take an eternity.

You do need to dig huge trenches to take samples which will certainly be taken across a wide area. I would imagine other surveys such as un-exploded WW2 ordnance survey will be undertaken and this is a desktop task.

All the surveys have to be independently assessed and conclusions/actions reached.

AFC Wimbledon's ground has begun. The old Greyhound stadium has been demolished, a small discrepancy over a freehold on part of the land now resolved and should be open in time of season 20/21. But then they have got Galliard Homes working in unison who've probably already sold most of the apartments being built within the site.

About twenty years ago I had to abandon a game at the conquest club which is near warren farm because a UXB was discovered, we had to take shelter in the clubhouse whilst they dealt with it.

The place really needs someone local to do a report regarding the lack of dog shyte and rubbish there, and the trench holes dug etc.

I'm willing to bet that he or she will come back with a set of photographs showing no change at all...... unfortunately.

It worries me that nothing has moved on (AFAIK).

If this is like any other development they now need to get the detailed design finished and a contractor on board. It may be deigb and build but even so that takes months.

The firstvinteretsing but will.be when its hoarded up. That's when you know something concrete (excuse pun) is going on.

Then you have all the ground investigations, utilities either diverted or supplied, ground clearance and investigations etc etc. Probably import a lot of soil too. It will still be 2 years before it opens at least.

Why stop now, just when I'm hating it

Bit gutted about that to be honest. Have some great memories of going down the to the dogtrack with my Dad and watching the banger racing there. Been meaning to go back for years, but never got round to it.

Nothing significant will happen there until lambing is finished. Or something.

Steady chaps, while updates from the club would help soothe the jumpy, it all takes time.

IIRC Lee Hoos said that while some of the pre commencement conditions got under way quietly, other condition approvals will take time not to formulate, but to get approval from the relevant authorities.

For those of a OCD nature, the approval document is at https://pam.ealing.gov.uk/online-applications/files/2896AE1BC1787CEB881E3937BCEB

Please don't panic about #1, that got reset post appeals.

I had a lot of friends at the time who were into the banger racing and I always used to go along and support them. I did however miss the meeting where "Mad" Roger Wilkinson in a MKII Jag set the track alight because he had left the original fuel tank in before going racing in it. LOL
I also used to go and watch the Speedway every Thursday, and around the country wherever Wimbledon were racing, happy days indeed.

The grass is always greener.

I was quite affected by Tommy Jansson's death as he was less than 2 years older than me and I often used to talk to him before matches. I didn't go to Plough Lane for a couple of years after it happened as it was just too saddening to remember him as he was. He would have been as good, if not better than Peter Collins or Anders Michanek.
Ronnie Moore, Ivan Major, Trevor Hedge, Tommy, Bert Harkins and the blonde Kiwi number 5 rider whose name escapes me ATM are the ones I remember the most.

The grass is always greener.

Unfortunately or fortunately depending on how you see it, Greyhound racing and banger racing are from a bygone era. I went to the dog racing 3 years ago there and it was a shambles, the stadium it'self in disrepair and the surrounding area a sh*thole. It simply had to go. The fact that a football stadium is being built which the whole community can enjoy and a football is a truly wondrous thing.

Spent a lot of time at the dog track as a youngster with my Grandad and also at the football ground. Growing up in Tooting I was allowed to walk to Plough Lane with a mate from about the age of 10, whereas visits to Loftus Rd unless accompanied by an adult had to wait for a couple of years.

Greyhound racing was as bent as it came, always remember a race when virtually the whole track was on one particular dog and as it cruised towards the final bend about 6 lengths in front a piece of meat landed from nowhere causing a mass distraction for all the dogs and the race to be abandoned with all bets returned...

Unfortunately the Greyhound stadium over the years fell into even worse disrepair than it was then so re-development was always going to be necessary. Personally I'm delighted that AFC Wimbledon are going home, the way that club has risen like a Phoenix from the flame is nothing short of a miracle (I did hear that there is some interest in a film being made about it)

I took a short video of the stadium just before it was closed as you could just wander into it when a car boot was on.

Does anyone know the planning application reference?

And the put Warren Farm as your search you will get the results.

At the top is the current, approved

It's Ref. No: P/2015/2387

Can't believe those dog walkers managed to delay things for nearly four years!
