Match Fred - FA Youth Cup v West Brom 14:11 - Jan 17 with 7369 viewsBrianMcCarthy

This one's being streamed with comms on the offish. Delighted.

West Brom are 11th and second last in the U-18 Premier League Northern Section but I would presume they're still favourites. Not that Furs Snr. seems that bothered.

Couldn't really see if it was a clip or a dive or the penalty.

We've looked nervous since the first goal. We need to play at the top level so that games like this don't worry our lads. Despite the scoreline we're far from outclassed.

i agree, despite the score we are not being outclassed. Some good performances from a few of the players. That Gubbins is a big lad - a new Alan MacDonald in the making?

Until Bosh crowns one of them the 'new Clive Allen' I'm declaring this match and thread null and void.

No, I don't personally see that comparison. And I'm not mad on comparisons. Too much pressure, Steve.

All of these lads should enjoy their training and matches. No more.

It was a bit tongue in cheek really. It's his size that reminds me of Macca. Sort of stands out amongst the other players.

Babajide with a cool finish from DE Sliva's trickery and cross.

Tuned in 15 mins ago and we've been playing really well since being 4-0 down. Nice to see Remy playing

FT 5-1

Would have really loved a win for the staff who've brought us from nowhere to being a decent youth set-up. We had decent good shape, technique, work rate and movement. But we lacked a tiny bit of belief.

Don't anyone try to tell me that the club casually slipping in that we're not pursuing Cat 1 and the highest level of competitive games for our lads is a good thing.

Good stuff.

Rangers doing well here. Early goings but we look organised. A few lads playing out of what I thought were their normal positions, Smeg - necessity? or player development leading to new positions for some of them?

We started with no recognised forward as such, Mema plays in midfield for the under 16s usually. Babajide who came on and scored is 15 and usually plays at under 16s as well but this season with no Charley Kendall upfront he has been promoted. All 3 subs used are under 16s plus Mema as well. And I still maintain we miss Orafu in midfield, he is the captain as well.

Great info, Smeg.

I think 5-1 flattered West Brom hugely. If we had belief at crucial times I think that it might have been a closer game. But - as you flagged before kick-off - we lacked an experienced forward up front to hold the ball. You also flagged the absence of Orahu and we could have done with a controlling presence in there.

I was hugely impressed with or shape, work rate, touch and technique. Nobody let themselves down tonight. We just need to believe.

Smeg said earlier that Kendall's been injured all season, Clive. We missed him.

He has only played in two preseason friendlies and scored in both. The word at Heston on Saturday was he's been told to forget playing this season, just get fit for next season. At the end of last season he scored 12 goals in 11 games for the 18s. He was stepped up to the 23s and made two appearances. In the first at Loftus Rd against Sheffield United he came on as a sub in the 79th minute. A week later he came on for 13 minutes at Turf Moor and scored. He's a very talented boy who knows where the goal is. Very strong for one so young and can score with both feet and his head which he did when scoring hat tricks against both Bristol City and Cardiff last season.

Just Back - well after a nights sleep at least
Hugely impressed and encouraged.
Paul Furlong, Chris Ramsay and the players take a lot of credit out of this.
As mentioned before and you will have seen online the boys were excellent in possession - very neat, v composed, good football brains against a team almost to a man and good few inches taller and bulkier than them. Ball on the ground, slick interplay...but no final ball, cutting edge...could have done with a young Eze really.
Loved watching this. The WBA fans around me said the same - better football by QPR , well played.
Of course the result says otherwise.
Impressions
Our right side had a real handful dealing with the best player on the pitch the big, tricky and fast WBA left winger who got 2...so that's something that needs working on.
As already mentioned Gubbins looks a good prospect. I also particularly liked the midfield interplays where Aaron Drewe and Shiloh Remy put in particularly good games. Jake Frayling deserves a mention too.
Kai W I was accomplished and aggressive and is a reliable LB who could step up imho.
Marcus Brooks and Dil De Silva were full of energy - didn't see that much of Grant as he mainly operated the other side of the pitch and my eyesight isn't up to much these days!

My Rs MOM - Aaron Drewe, involved in everything.

Good news, as the club confirms that Shiloh Remy will be available for the Play Offs.
