That’s because he is, and was, a fabulous player. Especially when used intelligently.

I stand in the North Stand

Well I don't think he liked you watching him. He refused to play for the club, just as Jordan Ayew did and was rightly slammed for.

Thankfully we got rid and are now regenerating as a club in the Swansea way instead of scrapping around playing some of the worst football I have seen in almost 2 decades.

Having said that - I also remember a time when Mark Gower was the most creative player in Europe and Leon Britton ranked as a better passer than Xavi and Iniesta. Stats eh?

Can't be correct, the Res assured us all that he was nothing but a one trick pony who we needed to move on to progress us toward the total football that Paul Clement was going to unleash on us..true story!

You don't think the football we are playing now is better than what we were serving up before he left?

If so, that's just weird.

Talk about a false equivalence. If you want to frame these stats as being meritless, you should really give a better effort. Gower was doing it in the Championship, not the Premier League like in this case.

Aye, and Ryan Fraser is the best midfielder in the Premier League isn't he.

Real Madrid are coming calling I heard. Just like they were when Leon had better passing stats that Xavi and Iniesta when Leon was in the PL.

FYI the Gower stats were also from the Premier League, not the Championship.

https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/other-sports/mark-gower-is-most-creative-player-1

Mark Gower is most creative player in European football

IT was a classic story of a local boy made good.

A 15-year-old Romford kid, a student at the FA School of Excellence, who was on the books of Tottenham Hotspur, had just scored twice for England Schoolboys at Wembley.

The big time was beckoning for young Mark Gower as he sat down with his proud mum in their living room, to give an interview to the scruffy, long-haired teenager who had just started working for the local rag.

Just over 17 years later, here we are again, this time to discuss the fact that Gower — a Premier League rookie at the ripe old age of 33 — is, officially, the most creative player in European top-flight football.

In the intervening years, Gower was released by his beloved Spurs without starting a first-team match, and has had to claw his way back from the Conference to the Premier League, via Barnet, Southend and finally Swansea.

After years of struggle it is heartening enough that Gower should have made his top-flight debut at the Emirates, just weeks before his 33rd birthday, and has since impressed against Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal too.

But when Opta released stats which showed that Gower had created 4.39 goal-scoring chances per 90 minutes — more than any other player in Europe’s top five leagues — that was when the midfield man really had to start pinching himself.

Of course what we're playing now is better than when he was last here. Celina's goal against Ipswich was tremendous.

However, it was against Ipswich. It was against opposition players, coaches and tacticians far from the level we were playing when Gylfi was with us. Comparing how we play know to how we played against the likes of Manchester United, Everton and even teams like Burnley is not really a fair comparison.

We used to play better than we do now, in the top flight, with Siggy in the side.

So we're playing better football, in a different division, under a different manager, with different players and it's because Sigurdsson isn't here? Christ.

The only thing more tedious than mourning Sigurdsson's departure every time he scores/assists/breaks wind is the attempts to downplay how important he was when he was here.

Without any shadow of doubt.

His sale will go down as the start of the return to our old ways. There is absolutely no realistic and logical way we could have regenerated without his sale, none what so ever.

It will always be the correct decision regardless of the fanboys wetting themselves whenever he scores a goal, which isn’t that often.

... and a Rangel, Dyer, Britton, Williams, Allen all in their primes. Go figure.

He was never the bastion of tiki taka. We played well because we had a good team that could, he was never the prime focus. As our backbone degenerated and Laudrups failed attempts to replace Britton, Dyer and Williams failed we looked for short term options and ended up scrapping to stay up using him more and more as a focal point for one dimensional play.

That sale freed us from that and allowed us to rise again. If anybody thinks they would be this excited about our football if he was still with us sulking as we hammer the balls up top and hoping for free kicks then tthey are lying.

Nobody is downplaying how important he was.

But being important in a system we don’t want to play is the whole point.

Peter Crouch was an important part of the way Stoke played too, that isn’t really a positive though.

Of course it’s fair. We are talking about ethos. Stick us up against Everton, do you honestly think you will see Roberts and Rodon hoofing it and hoping with Celina just trying to play for a free kick? Not a chance. We may not win of course but we certainly would not be playing like we were.

Remember our first match in the PL? We got ruined by Man City and their new striker by the name of Sergio Aguero. I think everyone was beaming with pride after that match at how we stuck to our style regardless.

Unless you’re suggesting that Ryan Fraser is as good as siggy then this thread is pointless. Siggy probably the only one on that list that takes every corner and frekick as well

Yeah we regenerated after his sale alright.

Who did we sign again from the money he generated?

Class player. We were fortunate to have him.

Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

Yep. In his stupid little mind Carroll and Clucas are still future Ballon D'or winners

The idiot just couldn't get it through his head that they are no where near Premier League level, much less comparable to a player like Sigurdsson.

Ryan Fraser has been as good as Sigurdsson this season though. You could even argue he's been better. Both have played in 8 games thus far but Fraser's been directly involved in more goals, with Frazier registering 3 goals and 3 assists and Sigurdsson with 4 goals and 1 assist (6 > 5). Fraser's really come into his own and blossomed into a superb player--there's a reason why Bournemouth are currently 6th in the table, above Man United and Everton, and it largely rests with Fraser.

And no, Sigurdsson doesn't take every free kick and corner. Have a look at the Set Piece Taker table from Fantasy PL. He shares the duties with Digne, Baines, and Walcott.

Come on you Swans.
