I’ve been pretty non plussed about the Copa Mundial this year which is unusual as I’ve always loved it. Perhaps FIFA have contributed to my overall “fcuk it” view to the modern game, I’ve never felt so remote from a tournament Inger-Lund have been in. Part of me hopes it lives up to the scam it is with Russia being awarded 317 penalties in the group stages, empty stadiums with Escape To Victory dubbed crowd cheering noises all capped off with a plucky squad of kids winning it so rhino nose becomes Sir Gareth
Current questions for those buzzing about it or who simply know:-
1. Any good Apps for iPhone anyone come across? (Preferably free)
2. Can anyone recommend a Fantasy Competition for the tournament? I’ve been asked to run one at work; think the Sun used to do a simple one; no idea if they are as I haven’t bought a newspaper this decade.
3. Any players people recommend sticking in above / hidden jems????
4. What fixtures do we think are ones to make an effort to watch out of the current group stages? May have to organise work schedule and ensure a regular spot in The Leicester Arms on Warwick Street for any midweek afternoon games
5. What nation picks up the Jules Rimet this year for you? I’m thinking probably Germany but the last time they tried to conquer all the Russia issue didn’t work out well for them

My God.... this is now up there pushing for recognition as possibly the best tournament and a strong contender for second position behind Italia 90
It's had it all so far. The progression of Southgate (you still turn me on) and the boys is obviously the big factor but there's been so much drama and some damn good football along the way. Not a sniff of trouble come out of any media outlets, good weather and we had a right good laugh at Maradona's expense.
What more can a man ask more.....'cept maybe three more wins????

Interlude continued: What to do on another day off.
[Post edited 5 Jul 2018 12:37]
Thank the Good Lord it’s all back tomorrow and I’m looking forward to it immensely
I’m a little bit gutted to be WFH tomorrow as we have arranged an all x’s paid breakfast, a brief work interlude and then annall x’s paid plot up in a West End pub for the 3:00pm game which will no doubt bag on into the 7:00pm In reality I’m keeping my powder dry for Saturday and I sort of feel like a much younger version of myself 28 years ago when I built up the excitement throughout that tournament until it totally consumed me. I’m proper nervous about playing the Swedes already!!!
A long sun kissed day in the battle with a lunchtime start What could possibly go wrong???

Hahaha.
Neimar's stoopid dive means Brazil don't get a penalty when Kompany brings down Jesus.
Kin brilliant.
And another one bites the dust.....
Blimey that Douglas Costa looked good when he came on, everything that diving baby Neymar isn’t but it wasn’t enough. Shame as I was baying for Extra Time and pens with Neymar missing the decider but claiming a foul
Dare I dream? Nah.....

To save time: that LOLverpool thread but going on about Russia.
What a great World Cup. All the cheating South American teams out. Two great semi finals. This is ace.
Stefan Moore, Stefan Moore running down the wing. Stefan Moore, Stefan Moore running down the wing. He runs like a cheetah, his crosses couldn't be sweeter. Stefan Moore. Stefan Moore. Stefan Moore.

Is this a dream or reality???????
I’m sure that when the last drop of lager morphs into a hangover today I will feel rough, for now I’m still drunk and elated
Flights to the Soviet Union anyone????
I did say on page one we would get to the semi and that the hosts would get to the QTR finals The only thing I got wrong was my dark horses ha ha This is a 50/50 game with nothing to fear I just hope we have enough leftover in the tank and as they will be knackered I would start Rashford for sterling As for Russia had a great time although we were staying near the polish border which may have helped plenty of older fans there it’s was like a saga holiday met no QPR although got talking to some old Man Utd fan who said he used to knock about with Stan the man, it was just a a shame the Belgium game had nothing riding on it , plus side the woman, Jesus they all have the same body shape and they seemed to like us English
And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot
That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles

Er, after predicting we could reach the qtr/semi, you completely wrote off Belgium in the next sentence

After 1,966 It's Coming Home MEME's, MadLipz dub overs and countless pictures of blue waistcoats; we stand at another day of destiny.
I'm tinged with regret at not being over there, I've got my FanID, in spirit I'll be in Moscow and I can think of nothing; absolutely nothing else, all day but tonights game. Nervous? You betchya baby.
Come on Saint Gareth of Southgate and the boys... just hold or give, but do it at the right time.
C'MON ENGLAND!!!

I’ll watch the next two matches of course but with a barrel of regret Of course it’s not just England who have made this tournament great... it’s been wonderful, but their unexpected progress has added real spice
At least I can now have some booze free days again

Just found out by chance the final kicks off at 4. I'd assumed it was the usual 7 o clock evening ko. Was going to have a late afternoon hangover-based power nap and could easily have missed it. Wouldn't have been the end of the world but it definitely would've been the end of the World Cup.

I for one am glad this world cup has ended if only to save my liver and sort my guts out last night I dropped the biggest log in the toilet the sort that would make a fly sick I dropped my guts so loudly that next door heard it through the bathroom widow ,the woman next door said "alan there's that noise again, what you doing in there " I was creasing up

Something that came up in conversation during the game yesterday and for some reason made me laugh more than it should have. There's a French version of Paul Hardcastle's 19. So instead of ner ner ner ner nineteen it goes der der der der dix-neuf.
Well done France. To the Hugo Victors the spoils.

I hear ya (apart from the greasy log bit)
For almost a month my routine has consisted of leaving work early, getting in and sticking the BBQ on whilst popping a cold Corona; consuming burnt offerings with various colours of wine alongside my good lady wife. Then ensuring I was in the chair for the 7:00pm KO. Other aspects kicked in like the odd 4:00pm game in a W1 boozer or the big ones being England games which ALWAYS involved a hot and sweaty pub.
Absolutely Loved It
Now a few days drying out before some further weekend drinking (starts on Thursday at a work function!!!)
So long and goodbyes to World Cupski 2018... you were great X
