Clement anyone? on 10:36 - Nov 7 by Antti_Heinola | Does anyone actually know what happened at Derby? They were doing ok weren't they? Weren't they 5th? Didn't he get fired because they wanted to get promotion in another way? |
They were Antti, and they had been top of the league a month before that. If the chairman's comments are to be believed then style of play may have been a factor. https://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2016/feb/09/derby-county-paul-clement-

This is quite insightful http://viewfromtheweststand.blogspot.co.uk/2016/02/the-sacking-of-paul-clement.h That would be the "official" version. There were also rumours that he was allegedly carrying on with a Derby player's wife/girlfriend/mother?

Mmmm, not a glowing assessment! Dare I say some similar complaints to that levelled at JFH. Except that Jimmy played youth players.

Clement anyone? on 11:13 - Nov 7 with 2740 views | philosopher | Thought the Guardian journalist had sussed out the owner well and Clement comes out of it ok. Not his signings and constantly under pressure from above, but still got them on a good run. Recent evidence suggests foreign managers or managers with let's say wider experience of other European leagues do well, and not only in premiership. He's got that, plus experience here as manager (and No 2) and with apparent commitment to QPR. Seems ideal choice.

Clement anyone? on 11:28 - Nov 7 with 2653 views | PlanetHonneywood | Ollie, the ledge that he is, is from a different era and I suspect that his time has come and gone. Just could not see this working second time round and in many respects, his memory is a cherished one for many of us which in our current confused state, is more likely to be burnt. The article re: DC is interesting. Seems to me where the words Clement, Morris and Derby are cited, they could easily be changed to Redknapp/Ramsey/JFH, TF/PB/LF/LH/Uncle Tom Cobley and QPR, all within confused instructions about what is expected from the manager.

Clement anyone? on 11:35 - Nov 7 with 2613 views | DannytheR | Clement was always going to appeal to the owners. They'll love the fact they'll be able to mention Real and Bayern in the press releases AND they know the fans see him as one of our own, which as long as Warnock is still breathing might be the only way to stop him getting ripped limb from limb the first time we draw 0-0 at home. Tony does like to keep us happy. I actually have no idea whether he'd do well here or not, but I had a look at the Derby forums while he was there and even then it all seemed uncannily JFH-like - fans saying he was obviously very inexperienced and out of his depth, and playing some pretty, er, "functional" football. Definitely seemed like anyone expecting him to come in and fill the team with Stanleys and Adels might be waiting a long time. BUT he was also reported to have been landed with a load of players that weren't his choice, and still put together at least one very good run (around the time we played them at their place, I think they'd won 8 in 10 or something). Better him than Sherwood, if that's what it comes down to. [Post edited 7 Nov 2016 11:38]

The beauty of the DoF system is that the DoF decides the manager's level of access to the players' mothers.

Bearing in mind where PC currently resides and, if he is the man for us, then let's hope Leslie has got Frau Polter taking one for the team as we speak.

Clement anyone? on 08:53 - Nov 7 by Orthodox_Hoop | This for so many reasons. I love our club because of the fact that we are (or were) a small tight knit club, and looking back at our most successful managers they had history with us. Putting Clement's massive credentials aside he is QPR 'family' and has said so himself. At this point in time we are crying out for a figure to unite us again, win lose or draw. |
Hmmmm, not sure Messers Stock, Jago and Sexton had much history before they arrived.

ALL the players here won't be his choice and he's got no money to change them. Applies to anyone arriving, which is why I'm ambivalent (good word eh?! ) to whoever it is - we'll end somewhere between 10th - 14th whatever/whoever rocks up. Impatients will want him out in the summer/remainers will want to give him time to "build his own team" Come October 2017, when we're 10th -14th again, we'll all be back on here having the same old arguments - to sack or not to sack [Post edited 7 Nov 2016 12:51]

Clement anyone? on 12:56 - Nov 7 with 2039 views | R_from_afar | I'm still in shock that we are once more in the hunt for a new manager. A random jumble of thoughts: - Time: People keep saying "if managerial prospect X is given time". Seriously, if recent history has taught us one thing, it's that whoever the manager is, they are not going to be given much time. Even a QPR legend like Olly or Clement with only get a few more games, not months, at best, than people without a Rangers conenction. - Sherwood: No. Just no. If he were the last manager on earth, I would opt for one of those fancy extra-terrestrial managers. He failed spectacularly at Villa, he is arrogant, he sent a Spurs team out to play with zero defensive midfielders (madness), he publically blames his own players for poor performances, he has very little managerial experience and, crucially, he will be expensive. Let some other gullible club give him a chance to preside over woeful results resplendent in his gilet. - Robinson. Not a good choice. He seems a likeable bloke and he tries to play attractive football, which is a prerequisite for some fans (but not me), but he just failed in the division we are in and the division below us. Why choose him then expect him to overachieve at QPR by 300%. Which brings me on to a final point... - Realistic expectations for the next manager: We need to pick someone for whom doing the job well is a realistic expectation based on their capabilities, experience, and baggage (e.g. Chelsea connections, associations with scandals/footballing disasters, poor football style, refusal to play young or home grown players). Some of the managers suggested look unlikely to succeed before they have even entered the training ground for the first time because based on their track record and background, they would need to vastly overachieve to come up to the required standard. That is an approach based on hope and alchemy and is likely to leave us all sorely disappointed. We would be expecting them to do way, way better than they have before just because we are QPR. I love our club but it is not the most fertile environment for major football miracles. For goodness sake, let's choose someone who has a reasonable chance on paper, rather than someone whom the odds are stacked against from day one. I now need to think about who that might be. As I said before, I'm still in shock. Oh, and one last thing: I don't think this latest sacking should be grounds for us moaning that everything is going wrong at the club. It isn't. We are making progress in many areas, although the progress in some areas (training ground, stadium) is frustratingly slow and we are progressing from a very, very low point. QPR: Not an easy club to love, but then we are the grittiest of fans, are we not, my hooped brothers and sisters? Nurse, quick, my pills, now! RFA

Agree with all this. Plenty of reservations to have behind the "dream manager" fairytale. http://dcfcfans.uk/topic/23148-a-little-insight-to-clements-personality/ Not only is his style of play reminiscent of JFH but this makes him sound like Hughes...
