Thompson and Bunny on 19:45 - Sep 17 by tony_roch975 | McGahey had to make the lunge from behind cos from Main Stand their player looked a yard ahead of him when the pass was made & so should have been given offside - one of several poor decisions today. Defence can't guarantee clean sheets - weakness this season has been finishing for me. McDermott & Hendo at fault again there today & generally Hendo has made little impact for some months . Think he needs leaving out, especially if you want Davies to play. JT & JB are perfect examples of how the best teams aren't made up of the best players but the ones who compliment a team shape (Alf Ramsey 1966). They formed a telling partnership in the first half. JB not only put in great crosses, he won at least 10 contested headers against his opposite number. JT & he covered each other and the left side looked more solid than all season. Agree Keane did an excellent Cavanagh impression - tho he did drop too near the back four in the 2nd half. May not be our first choice team every game but credit to all 14 (and the management) for making a top of the league team look very ordinary. |
Bunney needs telling that winning headers up front is the same as winning them at the back - couldn't believe my eyes!

Thompson and Bunny on 19:49 - Sep 17 by jimmysbaldhead | I'll pick you up on this post D_Alien if you don't mind because you are quite wrong there was another disappointment today for me. The pitch markings where so faint you could hardly see the 18 yard line from the Pearl street end. An utter disgrace! Really enjoyed that today. Tactics spot on in the first half, with our wing-backs overlapping at will. Slightly harder work in the second but to be expected against a team who if they had won would be 2nd in the league. Joey T has been good since returning and as Col pointed out a while back if he had never played for us before I think we would be happy with what he has shown so far. |
Agree about the pitch markings. My first thought about the penalty from the opposite end was 'where did it take place'. Had no idea.

Was not expecting any kind of result today seeing the line up, but fair to hill he knows what he is doing, just wish bunney would put crosses in like he did today while playing further forward

While we're at it is there any chance they could turn the music up just a touch,my ears didn't quite bleed whilst standing in the Sandy. The noise leathered out by them crappy speakers is horrendous and God only knows why it has to be at that level either

I have been a Dale season ticket holder from 85 to 2009 (yes left December before promotion to move to NZ!). Not once in those years did I choose to miss a game because of the team sheet and could only dream of being in league 1! If you are Dale through and through you love turning up at the shrine that is Spotland to Support the club. We are one of the smallest clubs in lg 1 and should have a Dale against the world underdog attitude in which we pull together as TEAM ROCHDALE. The beauty of football is its unpredictability and you never know whats going to happen. Do you choose to miss the game when you see the team sheet because you have seen the team train all week and disagree vehemently with the managers choices? Some of the posts on here (a small minority) are quite frankly embarrassing and deserve to be ridiculed by the majority of quality Dale fan. To suggest the manager is picking the team to lose is bizarre. Although I live on the other side of the world ( coming back at xmas and my son is being mascot!!!!) Dale is still a massive part of my life and always will be regardless of the performance of the team. Come on mate....get behind the team hey....you might enjoy it?!
Thompson and Bunny on 20:44 - Sep 17 with 2986 views | rich_dale | Can't believe people are being negative after beating a team with a big budget and coping with the injuries we have. And dominating the game for the most part. What the enforced selection showed is how much more comfortable at CB Mcnulty is and what we've missed at LB in an attacking sense, ie putting quality crosses in. Tanser is better at it than Jim but Bunney took it to a new level today. When you play centre halves at full back you don't get that (Dawson at WBA excepted😊)

Agree about the pitch markings, thought that myself but forgot after the win - well picked up! That, and the ridiculous over-watering of the pitch which prevented the ball from running true - same for both sides, but surely that's not the idea...

Thompson and Bunny on 21:00 - Sep 17 with 2899 views | boromat | Chuffed for Bunney today was outstanding the tactics and opposition suited him playing there today and credit has to go to Hill. Keane could be the Cavanagh type player we've been asking for. When did Joey T become such a strong player he was knocking other player over at times today, think we're seeing a much better player this time round. Glad Davies got a goal still don't think he looks fit enough could take a few months before we see a more finished article. Really disappointed with Camps again thought he should have gone off instead of Donal. All in all a win with a line up that looked make shift and short of a lot of first team players. Great start to the weekend and my week off :-). Up the Dale

In Hill's interview he mentions Davies needing to get fitter. At least it is being addressed and the player knows what is required.

Thompson and Bunny on 17:26 - Sep 17 by D_Alien | Joe Bunney just had his best game for Rochdale There, I've said it He played very well, sound enough defensively (apart from one late lapse, mainly down to inexperience) and he put in some really telling crosses which won us the three points Joey T did fine, nothing spectacular, but more solid than Camps who still looks out of sorts Somehow, the formation worked. We never looked in too much trouble apart from the penalty against the run of play. A mention also for Keane, who went about his work quietly and skilfully in front of the back 4, or 3, or whatever! What a load of nonsense. I'm sorry. Joe Bunneys vs Bradford last season was his best game.
Thompson and Bunny on 22:23 - Sep 17 with 2595 views | sandy_dale | Despite the overall opinion of the squad, the players that came into the Dale bar after the game today seemed overly pleased with the result today. We do give Jim some stick but he seemed ecstatic at the end of the game and was the same in the bar afterwards. It is quite refreshing to see at time when you feel the players aren't putting their all in

Bunney has scored goals in the past, and the game at Bradford looked to be a turning point for him. It wasn't. He started this season like he'd learnt nothing in three seasons. Today, he looked like a footballer who deserved to be on the pitch by allround ability, a huge stride forward. Yes, goals are important but they can dry up. Today was a bigger achievement in my view.

He definitely wasn't offside - level with McGahey when the ball was played on the tv highlights.

Thompson and Bunny on 23:52 - Sep 17 with 2338 views | Hopwoodblue | I heard the team selection was based on a team meeting, players turning up late for said meeting and then players arguing with Keith at the meeting. Make of that what you will but it certainly was a strange selection and no mention of injuries to the players left out.

Thompson and Bunny on 23:54 - Sep 17 with 2331 views | Shun | Has anyone else been disappointed with McDermott this season? I think he's well below the standard he set himself last season. He's still got his trickery but his final ball has been abysmal. Having said that, I'm not sure whether it was he or Bunney who delivered the fantastic cross for the first goal!

Being "overly pleased" means "too pleased for their own good" - but i don't think that's what you intended? And there's never been any evidence, or even a suggestion from anyone that the players aren't putting their all in. Where do you get that idea from?

There is no doubt Jim has been weak at left back this season, but he was brilliant at centre back today. He probably deserves a run of games at CH. Some of his last ditch tackles today along with his overall play were brilliant, whether you think he's a good player or not today he was excellent against some very good attacking options. Hopefully KH will see he's ten times better at CH than at left back! [Post edited 18 Sep 2016 0:44]
