Austin Replacement Thread on 10:03 - Jan 17 with 2194 views | 08olesen | I have been to see Oxford a few times this season as I live just round the corner from the stadium. That Keemar Roofe is class, he has got pace and skill and a nice shot too. He can also play out wide if need be. There is another lad at Oxford who also looks good...George bulldock, he is only 22 I think, but a really good right back, who could easily challenge Perch for the RB slot.

Austin Replacement Thread on 16:09 - Jan 16 by E17hoop | We have to reduce our wage bill for FP so are unlikely to add to the squad permanently. That means loan players. They'd not be likely to come from L1 where JFH knew the teams - would a team in L1 have a striker good enough to play there be available for a loan to the Champ? So that make Prem loans more likely. The relationship that LF has with Spurs as a development coach and the return of Ramsey means Spurs would be their first port of call. |
We signed 13 players in the summer. 2 had spurs connections, only one came from spurs.

Austin Replacement Thread on 14:54 - Jan 16 by exiled_dictator | i hear les ferdinand has guaranteed to sign a striker with a formidable scoring record: someone who has scored 184 goals in 443 appearances, including 5 international goals for england. step forward: les ferdinand. no, i think we should try and get in a loan striker or two till the end of the season, then see where we are and go from there. use the strikers we have now, get them games, confidence and goals. this seems to be the most logical and obvious solution as i very much doubt there are many shekels in the piggy bank to be used. |
Wouldn't trust any guarantees - looks like we have turned 20million into 10million in 6 months with just Austin / Phillips. We should have sold in off-season and got in players like Hooper + a winger - we would be higher up the table and would have recouped 10million as well.

Ah you could be onto something Wombat. He looks happy at Wednesday anyway, so will sign for them I suppose

To be fair, I could challenge Perch for the right back slot. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
Austin Replacement Thread on 22:58 - Jan 17 with 1554 views | bacardiinbrissie | Personally Id be ok with recalling all our players and giving them a fair crack at keeping us up. Just get a decent comanding CM to cut out the mistakes and give the youngsters and others the freedom to play. We'll know by the end of the season if they are good enough or want to be with us. Accept across all the management that we aint going up. Players like JET may flourish knowing that they are going to get picked regularly and get game time, just like Adel did. Its working for Poulter now and Loungo is getting better. Hall has been great. Get Furlong, Doughty and who-ever else we'loanded and test them. We've got the nucleus of a half decent team. At least come summer we will know where we need to add instead of starting l over again. Just another thought. Maybe Charlie was part of the problem? Having to play a specific way to accomodate and supply him? Maybe hindered our development or others like JET realised they had no f-ing chance of a game with Chaz around so decided not to give a toss? Dont get me wrong, Im cerainly not putting Chaz down or blaming him and am gratefull we had him in our squad and for what he did for us. Just wondering if our managers were "forced" to play to his game? Just a thought ;)

Come on, BinB, no conspiracy theories on this one. The only thing "forcing" managers to field Charlie was the knowledge that he was our best-by-miles chance of getting a goal. As for JET, he certainly has some problem or other. I don't lay it at Charlie's feet: JET had a great game against Bolton because of Austin's absence but has since distinctly gone off the boil despite many chances to play due to Austin's 'injuries'. It's JET's own fault that his tepid performances gave Polter the sniff of a chance that he had been praying for. Step up or step out, Jay.

Austin has hardly played for 3 months and no one has stepped up in that time apart from polter in the last few games. I think we need to work out how we want to play and get that kind of striker rather than throw money at anyone. I've always liked Gary Hooper and think he is ideal but will probably want to stay at Sheff Wed
Austin Replacement Thread on 23:56 - Jan 17 with 1462 views | Bluce_Ree | Gayle from Palace. He only looks crap because Palace don't really use strikers. It's all dribbly wingers. He'd clean up in this division. Especially if we sacked off this shit formation and played him in a 2 up front with Seb Topknot.

Austin Replacement Thread on 08:37 - Jan 18 with 1329 views | Lblock | That Rotherham striker when they played at ours looked half decent - Harris was it? Normally I'd be banging on about CHRIS WOOD but he's not really kicked on at Leeds as I expected him to. We'll not get Roofe from Oxford - interest from higher levels and bigger clubs than ours. He'd only get slated here anyway!

Austin Replacement Thread on 10:21 - Jan 18 with 1267 views | Rangers67 | I had the pleasure of being there on Sat thanks to the Mrs along with a mate of mine who is a Rotherham season ticket earlier. I would like to see us investing in the kid who came on early in the second half, Clarke- Harris I think his name was. He looked strong and quick and was useful in the air. My mate who sees him quite often is really hoping no one spots him as he has great potential. From what I saw of him, given some good coaching then he could be a really good player and I don,t think it would take a lot of money to get him.

Austin Replacement Thread on 11:01 - Jan 18 with 1224 views | adhoc_qpr | I just pray we don't end up trying to replace Charlie with a either an average youth player on loan (i.e. Will Keane) or a desperation loan player who is completely unwanted at their current club for good reason (i.e. a Maiga or Priskin type). Let's just try and sign a youngish League One or Championship striker with potential now!
Austin Replacement Thread on 11:08 - Jan 18 with 1207 views | RamseyR | If we do need to sign anyone.....Britt Assombolonga at Forest Will be back from a major injury soon, but young enough to come back. Prior to that a real goal scoring machine 15 goals in 43 games for Southend 23 goals in 43 games for Peterborough 15 goals in 29 games for Forest (thanks to wiki) Wouldn't break the bank...and would have sell on value. Only problem is that I don't think we are a more attractive option than Forest although he is a Londoner and could be tempted

Yeah, as said the other day I expect we will get Bamford late on deadline day. He's holding out for a PL loan which looks pretty unlikely.

I know he's got a great Championship record, but i REALLY don't want Bamford after he flopped at Palace and then threw his toys out of the pram publicly... We really don't need any more big time Charlies at the club - especially one who think she belongs in the prem.

I'm not sure I see it that way with Bamford. To me he did his time for 2 years in the Championship and the last one with Boro was so successful, he was literally the best player in the league. So he was given a deserved chance in the premiership with Palace, I assume with the promise of game time. Pards though didn’t give him a chance, was even playing midfielders ahead of him when they sold Murray and Wickham was injured. It hasn’t done him any good and I doubt he would have gone had he known he was going to be ignored. TBH I still don't see why Chelscum won’t play him when they need to, when Costa was shit/unavailable and Remy was shit/unavailable they didn’t once look internally. Since Hiddink came in they have played Kenedy a little bit, but he’s got to be miles behind Bamford.... Either way if we can get him for a reasonable loan fee, I’d take him all day. Proven Championship player.

But doesn't that beg the question of why Pardew picked absolutely anyone over Bamford? And in his 6 appearances he contributed nothing? Obviously i have no insight into his character other than what i've read in the media, but i'd rather a player who wants to be here and is itching for a chance, rather than one who maybe thinks he has nothing to prove in the Championship. He'd be better than nothing, but i think we should look longer term rather than try to paper over cracks with a loanee.

Got to apply a bit of common sense to this and try to get him in till the end of the season. He has done well elsewhere in the championship. Pardew is an Arse so there be more to this. Hopefully Jfh will get him in and have a look at him before the end of the month.
