Jack Cork + more... 21:07 - Dec 2 with 4152 viewsDrizzy

I've seen numerous posters on this forum questioning the exclusion of Jack Cork over the last few weeks and I simply cannot understand the hysteria. Cork is fantastic at reading the game, breaking up play and protecting the back four however he's just not very good with the ball. A 33 year old Leon Britton was sharper with the ball against Liverpool than Cork has ever been since he's got here. There's a reason Southampton weren't overly fussed on getting him to sign a new deal.

I'm not sure if there's a genuine infatuation with him or whether he's just another stick to beat Monk with. Somewhere in-between I would imagine. The key to "The Swansea Way" (which has disappeared since the League Cup final) in our early seasons was the fact that our midfield was short, sharp and recycled the ball quickly. Look at the likes of Britton, Allen and de Guzman - all diminutive but very good short passers and that's how we could keep the ball for long periods of time. Our current crop just can't do that, they're all good players in their own right, but don't have the ability to control the tempo of the game.

Honestly I'd seriously consider a move for Joe Allen if he was available. Britton's cameo against Liverpool showed what we've been missing and if it means cashing in on Shelvey (who eternally frustrates) or Ki (who's form has significantly dipped since his stellar last season) then so be it.

Also it's time to stop pissing away money on back-up strikers with no Premier League experience. The intellectual clique on here scoff at the thought of buying players like Shane Long however every season we see misfiring back-ups struggle to hit form or adapt to the league. Eder doesn't look like an exception unfortunately. If we invested a bit more into a player with Premier League experience maybe we wouldn't have to wait five games for our back-up striker to find his feet.

Finally this forum has become insufferable since our poor run of form. How predictable to see the agenda driven nonces like Warwick and DYSS come out of hiding and pollute threads with endless inane criticism. As a fanbase, we've become arrogant, entitled and proven we're incapable of handling anything other than unbridled success. A real shame to see.

Driz out.

The fact we dont play with a dedicated DM means we play a lot more "direct". Hoofing the ball out from the back at a target man short on confidence is not ideal. I dont care who the DM is, but there needs to be one who comes to pick the ball up short on the field at all times and dictates the tempo. We dont want Shelvey there, and Ki is seemingly not arsed to do so.

"Michu, Britton and Williams could have won 3-0 on their own. They wouldn't have required a keeper."

Great post.

Cork isn't alone, we have a few excellent players who simply don't suit the way we used to play, the way HJ apparently wants us to get back to.

Honestly anyone out there behind the attackers who is putting in the work rate is fine for me. Running at loose balls and recycling back up field. Cork's not the most gifted of players, but really if were honest, I don't know how much sharp passing and possession is being coached at the moment.

Yeah, swearing, doodling on the walls, the guy is out of control.
