Three wanted before the window 10:37 - Aug 28 with 2923 viewsmagicdaps10

With Barrow coming in to go into the development squad and Monk stating that he wants 2 experienced players to come into the squad......one a full back and another a forward player then it will be interesting end to the transfer window.

Seems like they don't want a DM that we so obviously require so what are your views on what you would like to see come in as the required full back and attacking player? Also, what are your views that we don't seem to be pursuing a DM?

I know people will say Barrow will be the attacking player but reports are that he will come into the development squad. Monk suggest that he wants more experience to take the mantle away from the younger players in the squad which would also back up that the young Barrow will be a development player.

They're placing their trust in Fulton maybe, until Leon is back, and worst case scenario sign a DM in Jan?

I think we definitely need to sign a DM. It would have been one of the main priorities for me this summer. Leon is not getting any younger and even if he was fit he still wouldnt be able to play every game.

Carroll is not a DM & the brief glimpses Ive seen of Fulton tell me hes not ready for the demands of the PL yet.

Ki & JJS partnership results in both of them attempting to be a jack of all trades rather than one of them being the destroyer & one the creator. I cant see this combination being a long term success.

Fulton needs to improve greatly based on the matches i've seen this season.

Perhaps Cork or Stambouli could be bought in January but this situation regarding Lepn's injury and Fulton is totally unsatisfactory . We can't dump all that responsibility on top of Fulton if Leon is out for any extended length of time

I agree we need to be looking at an experienced ball winning specialist CDM. It's a pity about Stambouli because he looks like what we need and there were reports that he favoured a move to Swansea. In any case we are taking a silly needless risk as its too much to ask Fulton and Shelevy and Ki just get in each others way.

Agree with other posters based on the information we have about Leon. Ki and shelvey don't work well together, Leon is out for god knows how long, Fulton is inexperienced and coming back from injury, Carroll looks tidy but doesn't look a defensive midfielder and canas is ? If we don't get in a defensive midfielder we are looking lightweight until the next transfer window when options may not be out there. A very big decision if we don't bring one in.

I don't see the issue with regards about a DM,its obvious we need one..............baffling to why we are not looking for one.

Great start and lets make certain that we don't regret things down the line. We needed one before Leon got injured and now Leon is injured then we need one even more.

Oh it's worse than that. We've found one, agreed a fee and the player (young and highly rated) wants to come. Then we basically thumb our noses at him. Shocking

Barrow is a complete novice in terms of PL level football and as for Fulton the same, what we need is a hard nose, experienced DM player who can put his foot in when required.

Spot on.

Ki and Shelvey jobsharing clearly doesn't work and I don't think Fulton or Carroll are specialists either.

Either we're playing poker with Montpelier or we're relying on players adapting and/or the loan market.

Seems a big risk for such a crucial position.

Any Stambouli deal is surely dead in the water now, as above all the bollox from Montpellier's Chairman and Manager, l very much doubt that International clearance would come through before window closes.
Seems like Monk is happy with the midfield players that are here.

It's so obvious that we need a DM that none of the people at the club, who know what they are doing have realised this? We've won 3 out of 3 and still people are not willing to just trust the club. We've currently got 5 players to cover the 2 deeper midfield roles. Get it in your heads that we're not gonna buy another and stop moaning

It's not a case of moaning its seeing a risk. Of course the club can see the issue, it appears the clubs solution is Carroll and not everyone agrees with that. It's called having an opinion on a fans forum. I hope that the club is right in whatever decision is made. The moaning will start if it goes tuts up, we need a defensive misfielder and can't bring one in because the window has shut.

I have long thought that we need a new defensive midfielder and it may be, of course, that we are planning on one but at this point I suspect not.

This leads me to muse though on a slight change that has happened so far this season and I wonder whether the change will continue and is very deliberate meaning that perhaps a definitive 'deeper' midfielder isn't so much of a priority.

Last season, when we attacked, our wide forwards came in, over lapped by our full backs, our 2 centre backs moved slightly wider and Leon dropped to cover the 'middle' - the space between centre backs.

This left us open to being caught behind the full backs, or in a position that meant our centre backs were dragged to cover, leaving us vulnerable in the middle (particularly to a high ball due to Leon's height). We had a lot of goals scored against us in that way.

This year, we've changed shape. Our wide forwards stay wider, full backs don't overlap as much, and the support to the wide players comes from our midfielders pushing further up in the pitch, inside the wide players.

This way, our back line stays more in place and less vulnerable to counter attack, but it also means that the need for a deep midfielder to drop back between the centre backs is not there. Instead, it needs midfielders who can get up and back quickly to support us going forward and defensively.

In this system, (a) we look more solid and (b) the midfielders rather than being 1 creative (JDG or Shelvey last year) and 1 defensive (Leon) instead need to be 2 more 'general' midfielders (hence JJS and Ki, or going forward perhaps Ki and Carroll).

The funniest thing in this thread is Warwick saying it clearly doesn't work.

It might not long term but only a massive f*cking blanket could say it clearly doesn't work after winning our first two games.

The finer points are over your head, dear boy.

Stevie Wonder could see our midfield is currently unbalanced with Ki and Shelvey getting in each other's way - still, we've got six points so no need to worry about the future...

What a quilt that man is. A victory over the worst Man U side since the 80's and just promoted Burnley who ran through our midfield like a hot knife through butter and everything's dandy?
