The transfer window doesn't open for another 3 months or so, yet the media are claiming that Aston Villa are already in contact with Saints about the possibility of signing one of their rising stars in the summer.

birminghamworld are claiming that Unai Emery has set his sights on Tyler Dibling and that Aston Villa have already made an approach to Southampton as to the asking price for the 19 year old.

They also cite another source as saying that Saints are willing to let Dibling go in the summer.

But Dibling may not be their first choice, Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio both joined Villa on loan in January and if they can sign one or both of them, then they might not pursue Dibling further given the £55 million price tag that it is said has been slapped on his head by Saints.

Saints are in no hurry to sell unless they get the right price, Dibling is under contract until 2027 and there is also a 1 year extension that Saints can activate then.

But Villa will face competition, both Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur ar also said to be interested, that is good news for Southampton who will hope to start a bidding war, Newcastle of course are not afraid to pay the going rate for a player if they want them, but with Spurs it is different, smart money will go on Daniel Levy weighing in with a £200,000 opening offer for Dibling sometime around the end of April, increasing that to nearer £800,000 in the week before the transfer window opens.

I will never forget Lowe being interviewed on the radio after a hearing at the PL in London over complaints we made about Spurs conduct approaching Richards / Hoddle or both. Asked after the meeting (where he’d been slapped on the wrist for calling the Spurs board North London Cowboys) if he had anything nice he could say about Levy, Lowe replied “Daniel looked very smart today in his Club attire, he had Spurs on his blazer, Spurs on his tie, in fact I think he even had spurs on his shoes!” 😂
