A lot of Southend fans are gutted about this (as we were with JT). I think it's time the FA/EFL brought in a rule that if you loan out a player for a season, you cannot then loan them to someone else. Fair enough if you need them to cover for injuries, but if some club has been prepared to take them on a years loan and give them game time to improve them, you shouldn't be able to rip up that deal and cash in on the improvement. |

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/c3vrvy93652o Equality Act 2010: The Act makes it unlawful to discriminate against someone on the grounds of any of these characteristics: age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion/belief, sex (gender), and sexual orientation. (Unless you're a tax paying, beer drinking, able-bodied male). We want the same......... ......when it suits us. As far as I'm aware the Act doesn't allow you to start making things up because men and women act differently. That is the whole point of the Act!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nikki Doucet said "I think our fan base and the behaviour is different (to the men's game)”. You’re right there, with just your fans, women’s football would hardly exist. ‘Fans’ of the men’s game have paid for the development, facilities etc. of your game, so I wouldn’t get too trappy and start driving wedges between the two if I was you. First time I’ve seen any of that. How can we look so tired and disinterested? We’ve just had 3 out of 4 games at home and an extra day to recover before Christmas. While Stanley have been travelling up and down the country and should have been more interested in saving themselves for Anfield next week. It's all a bit worrying. The penalty? Was it given for a foul or for Colchester bringing the game into disrepute by being so utterly shit at defending. Whalley is 37, but up against Flanagan he looks like a gazelle that's escaped from Colchester Zoo. At 6:59 DC looks to the skys as if to say "Oh Lord please make this stop" I think it was just a coinsidence that NC was on the gantry. [Post edited 6 Jan 17:12]

Yes that's him, still in short trousers when Lyle turned professional. Anyone under the age of 50 is still a boy as far as I'm concerned (unless they're a girl, .....errrr.....or on the fence - time to stop digging me thinks). [Post edited 6 Jan 16:09]

Richardson, Anderson, Harbottle (aka dirty ####), and Alistair Smith came in on loan and it's fair to say they didn't set the world alight, but at the risk of sounding a bit 'frankie' DC didn't exactly work wonders with the rest of the squad, so I don't know if it's fair to blame the players, two of whom are now regulars with high flying Wimbledon (along with Goodman). I believe he was and bizarrely, not only the fee, but also the length of contract was undisclosed. Just to clarrify my earlier post, two and a half years is the minimum that Carlisle have given out, they've signed a 25 year old midfielder on a three and a half year deal and presumably if they want the wonder boy from Altrincham, he will want the same. They are obviously paying good money if they are securing their targets this early in the window. If it comes to it, I don't think we can rely on them being one of two teams worse than us. |

In fairness, the signing of Akinde, Hopper and Jay is a very complelling arguement for not giving two and a half year deals. Kells and Read also 2.5 years in Jan 2023 [Post edited 6 Jan 12:53]

Agreed, but that was three years ago. As far as I can see, the last time we gave a two and a half year contract was two years ago. Since then (I think) everyone has come in on a 1 or 2 year deal, while we have been bringing in money from the wholesale selling of players, and increased gates. Add to this that we will probably fanny around trying to squeeze every last drop out of a Samson deal until the last minute and then, with what little money is made available, we will have missed the boat. Players of the quality of Poku, Mingi, Bradley, Chilvers are all getting 3 year deals and Fevs and Junior 4 years. Meanwhile DC has only been able to offer short term deals to freebies. It just shows how hard his job is. If he knew it would be like this, I’m amazed he took the job. Hopefully, this time next week, I’ll be stuffing humble pie in my cake-hole when we finally start to splash some of the cash we've received. [Post edited 6 Jan 12:48]

...and Bromley as well! The thing that caught my eye was the Altrincham manager. Do Wrexham know he's moonlighting? ...." there's only two Phil Parkinsons" |

Talking of Carlisle, and as an indication of how other teams are looking to avoid the drop, the Cumbrians have already made three signings in this window and they are giving out two and a half and three and a half year contracts. With our way of doing things, it's hardly suprising that we run the risk of ending up with the scraps. |

The joys of having a wealthy US owner with no idea about football. How can you go from Neil Harris to John Colemen in 2 years!!!! I would feel sorry for them if they weren't the Saarfend of Kent. Talk about a square peg in a round hole, dirty northern b@stard at the home of estuary chavs. The sad thing is, apart from Dale, he’s always got results. At least Galinson ditched the manager at the beginning of the transfer window, unlike his fellow Floridians at Carlisle who sacked theirs immediately as the last window closed and look how that turned out. Clueless! At least we can have hope that RC will get the hang of it eventually. [Post edited 6 Jan 10:05]

This really is a golden opportunity for RC to reverse his shitshow of the last 18 years. Gates are up dramatically, money has flowed in from player sales and there are signs that the losing mentality is thawing. DC is not perfect, but he’s the best we are going to get and given a reasonable budget is capable of getting us to L1. If the future is going to be tied to gate receipts, then it is vital that we keep the influx of support and increase it. RC has done so much to destroy the benefits of moving to a new stadium, but in DC he has the chance to put more and more bums on seats. The cult of DC and the current wave of optimism will not last forever. If the instructions are to accept any offer and again spend buttons on replacements, then we will at best tread water, until the inevitable demise happens. Now is the time. |
