| News Comment | Day 16 ! Over Half The Window Gone at 20:31:51
It is unbelievable that the Club appears to be doing nothings about bringing in players, We desperatey need a goalscorer (proven), central defender and more importantly a new manager. Bring back Koeman - all is forgiven!! |
| News Comment | Pellegrino Confirms Saints Stance On Van Dijk Remains Unchanged at 15:41:30
Whilst I admire the stance not to sell Van Dijk, if he will not play for us surely Saints should be buying one or two central defenders NOW before the season starts. The result yesterday seems to indicate that we do need central defenders of Premier League class. If we cannot afford to buy then £60 million would come in handy! |
| News Comment | Saints V Swansea City The Verdict at 11:26:23
I agree with all the comments that the non-signing of a CB is a disaster and it hurts me to say it but a relegation fight is now a distinct possibility! Van Dijk & Fonte was a very strong pairing but youannot expect to thrust Jack Stephens into their place. I have just read that there are several free agents around including Christopher Samba and Cacaeres. It would be woth a short-term contract for one of these surely??? Cannnot fathom out Saints transfer policy. Will never be up with the biggest if afraid to spend money! Very very disappointed!! |
| News Comment | Saints V Sunderland The Verdict at 22:31:42
Like many fans I was at the game yesterday and I regret I did not anything to give me hope for the season. Unless we bring in at least 3 new players by Wednesday the reality is we are likely to be involved in a relegation battle! The team simply does not look good enough! The interview which Claude Puel gave to BBC local radio wa also very worrying. It appeared that he has no control over whether we bring in anyone and who they are. He did not inspire confidence at all! |
| News Comment | Big Big Week Ahead at 10:54:03
I totally agree with Sonic. The form in last 10 games is certianly relegation form and the team needs to improve immediately otherwise Saints are in big trouble. I am puzzled by our manager at present. Starting a home cup match with 5 defenders is very very negative and his recent comments about the Saints Academy are not what you want to hear said in public! I cannot believe that some of the academy players wouldn't play their hearts out if given a chance. however since Koeman arrived he has proved like must foreign managers to be not interested in home-grown talent. This a great shame! |
| News Comment | Saints V Liverpool The Verdict at 13:51:39
Performance in the last 65 mins was totally unacceptable. Caulker at fault for at least 3 goals - he had no idea where Sturridge was!! We bought Cedric and Clasie but neither look like Premier League material! If the League Cup is impoertant ( as Koeman) said how can we forget it and move on. An embarrassing evening! |
| News Comment | Is £15 Million A Good Price For Clyne ? at 19:43:11
Well now Saints are in Europa League there is no point in him moving there. Anyway if I were Saints I would never sell a player to Liverpool again after Rodgers comments during the season!! |
| News Comment | Dejan Lovren Penalty Miss ! A City Rejoices ! at 10:13:42
Yes Nick a great night for Southampton! It was Lovren's attitude to the club which brought him over to the PL which was so bad and the reason we can all delight in his troubles at Liverpool. |
| News Comment | Spurs Set To Offer Central Defender In Part Exchange For Schneiderlin at 14:46:50
I cannot believe what is happening in the club. IMO we need a 2nd goalkeeper as well as Boruc, two central defenders and another striker as a minimum. If spurs don't want this guy then he is obviously not what we need! When oh when are we going to make a top signing. I am beginning to despair!! |
| News Comment | Saints Fans Need A Positive Week ! at 14:22:42
Saints need to tell Lovren he is not going anywhere at least until we have a replacement! Player power is reaching a ridiculous level. His weekend comments are unacceptable. saints should fine him and make him sweat in the reserves until the January 2015 window! |
| News Comment | Lovren Looking To Force Exit From St Mary's at 13:25:38
It is time for Saints Board to make a stand! We cannot go on losing players like this! Contracts are not worth it if players think they can break them at will! To lose 3 top players is bad enough. I suggest Lovren is told he will not be sold and is in breach of contract! This would send a message to the remaining players and other clubs to "backoff" and find some other club to decimate! |
| News Comment | What Went On For Saints In The Transfer Window at 12:06:54
I totally agree Nick with this article. Like you I am worried that we give away too many points from winning positions. Someone like Upson with Premier experience would have been a great addition. I just cannot understand why signings in key areas were not made! I sincerely hope I am wrong but I do fear the worst and if that happened where does that leave Cortese's 5-year plan! |
| News Comment | Six Days That Decide The Season at 09:52:33
I totally agree with this article. We all know we need signings and cover in key positions but I am getting depressed at the lack of transfer action. The squad as a whole is NOT strong enough for the Premier League!! |
| News Comment | Manchester United See's The Start Of The Pochettino Way at 09:49:05
It would also be nice to see the signs of strengthening the squad. I have always felt the current squad has not got enough cover in key positions and if no one is brought in this week (as seems possible given the new manager's comments) I believe we will struggle to avoid the drop! |
| News Comment | Nigel Adkins A Thank You From The Fans at 13:57:17
Like everyone I am shocked and particularly disgusted that the new manager was announced it seems before Adkins knew. That is appalling by the Club. I would like to sincerely add my thanks to Nigel Adkins for reviving our Club and for all his hard work. Very sorry to see him go and I wish you Nigel all best wishes for the future. I am sure you will find another job with a good Championship club at least. Thank you Nigel - you have always been a gentleman. |
| News Comment | Saints V Arsenal The Verdict at 10:35:02
Although I agree that it was an excellent point against Arsenal, we actually lost ground against relegation rivals by not winning one of the four Xmas games. 3 points our of 12 is not a lot to show for the hard work. In reality we face one hell of a fight as QPR, Reading, Wigan and Villa have all won one game recently. When I looked at the team sheet before the match I was puzzled. Why do we not give Jay Rodriguez more action alongside Lambert? When it was tried at Stoke we scored 3 goals. If you pay £7million for a striker surely you want to play him! We desperately need to sign a keeper and also a strong centre-back as if injuries occur we are so short of cover. Failure to bring in players in January I think will make life very difficult. (Sorry if this sounds pessimistic but trying to put a realistic view of our position). |
| News Comment | Saints V Norwich The Verdict at 11:58:43
I think that you have correctly summed up what I have been thinking. Our priorities in the summer should have been an experienced goalkeeper and a dominant centre back. Of those players we signed only Ramirez and Clyne look good buys. Yoshida does not give me confidence and made some awful clearances last night. It is hard to judge any others as they have not been used. We need to give Rodriguez more playing time and Mayuka is another option who could be used. I know Norwich were well organised but these are the teams we MUST beat at home to stay up this year. I know the mistake was bad but people forget the good saves Gazzaniga has made - I am not sure Davis or Boruc would do any better to be honest. |
| News Comment | Saints V Swansea The Verdict at 10:53:10
Performance wise that was a great improvement on Saturday. For me, Jack Cork made a big difference and was my Man of the Match. Cork's enthusiasm was a great example and with Ramirez obviously a class player the midfield seemed fine. I would question playing Lamebert alone upfront as he was usually marked by two defenders. I would also like to Mayuka given a chance at least as sub. I was proud of the team's efforts - just a shame the ref didnt give us at least one penalty decision - for me we should have had two! |
| News Comment | Saints At West Brom The Verdict at 09:58:53
Another disappointing result and I have to say I agree entirely with Nick. The team is just not good enough to compete at the top level. I know we need signings in January but fear it will be too late. The missed opportunity was not bringing in players with Premiership experience in August. Just two or three real premiership defenders and/or midfield would make the difference I believe. There has been no answer as to why this was not done - was it Adkins, Cortese, money or what? |
