With another international break forced upon us I’ve taken the opportunity to make my first visit to my local non league team: Wingate & Finchley are at home to Corinthian Casuals in the FA Cup 3rd Qualifying Round. A mile walk from home and a half decent bar: should be ok.
Went to a lot of Slough Town and Windsor & Eton games when I was younger with my mates, always a different experience to watching QPR!

Was that in the days when they were in the Isthmian Premier gazza, or before those heady days?

I used to really dislike the red & green colours that they wore in the '60's!

I remember that you mentioned that you knew a player who played for Chesham in the Amateur Cup fnal. With the W&E connection, would that have been Brian Caterer?

No it was the 80's when we won the Athenian League and managed to get to the 1st round of the FA cup & very close to a Wembley final in the FA competition two years running.

Yes I played for Brian at W&E, he signed me - dead now, very tragic death.

I know what you mean re the red/green but they were royalty colours.....

Fair reflection of the game so far.
Corinthian-Casuals play in pink and brown halves: very unpleasant indeed.

Nice post Gazza.

My local team Hungerford have drawn Bromley in the FA Cup Fourth Round Qualifying, gonna be a tough game as Bromley are in the league above Hungerford.

My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.

Played a few times at Hungerford Ted, slope on the pitch if I recall....nice area around there, remember a big killing there in the 80's. Dad born in Devises.

Proper tough game, Bromley favourites. .....4th qualifying round was a big day for non league teams.

And they have another tough game this Sat, which I may venture to if I can get the chance, that being NL South leading Dartford.

Wingate is the non-League team I usually go to watch. Couldn't make it last night.

Lost 3-0 in the end, cup dream is over for another season

They were dire: a mix of poor quality players with a few better ones who tried to be too fancy and lost the ball in dangerous positions. Big striker who thought he was a lot better than he was and moaned a lot.
On the other hand Corinthian Casuals played very well indeed, two great second half goals, kept it simple and deserved the easy win they got. Will be watching out for them in the next round.

Unfortunately they've been fairly poor the last few seasons and done well to avoid relegation (probably thanks to Covid and season cancellations!). Had a few better results this season but still fairly hit and miss.

Head to the smallest pub in the country for a pint and a look at a mummified cat, the Green King brewery is also worth a tour if you have time

Similarly, if you are in Hastings, the Stag Inn has mummified cats in a glass case on the wall. Nice food and drink there as well.

K's remain top after a narrow 1-0. Not a great game, not nearly as bad as the journey to and from Pitsea. Why are there no bloody pubs!?
