Anyone might think it was some form of managed decline?

I got extremely vexed/stressed at the Faurlin affair thinking our amazing promotion season would go up in a puff of smoke.

But have I ever shed a tear for QPR? I don't think I have.

The usual Premier League bullshit pumped into the media to wind everyone up. Ratcliffe is just the latest soap opera baddie parachuted in for this story line.

Surely everyone knows it's a circus based on Monopoly money.

Hard to say who I dislike more, Lids or Chris Wilder.

Ridiculous how many late goals Lids score, suppose that is why they are where they are.

Surely they can't cock up promotion from here - of course would be hilarious if they did.

Away form?
at 08:53 25 Feb 2025

Yeah that is the thing, with all the data flying around the game these days surely the coaching staff were well aware of how Portsmouth set up at home (and why they are doing so well there).

Feels like the approach was more "don't worry about them, let's focus on how we play". Didn't work out too well for us...

Doubt it'll make much difference - every time I use it, it has some kind of issue!

Harsh on Morrison!

He's clearly fit again but not being selected - which is a shame since we hardly lose when he plays.

The pïss stain coloured kit
at 16:02 24 Feb 2025

Think I saw some stat that said the most successful teams play in red.

Probably skewed though by the sheer number of teams that play in red though!

Indeed - https://giftofkit.com/news/how-do-kit-colours-affect-performance/#:~:text=Howeve

This nugget

Gold, on the other hand, can be associated with arrogance and superficiality, which could give the opposition a psychological advantage if they view the team as being ‘all bark and no bite’.

Saturday in a nutshell!!

Pace of the game was pretty frenetic as dictated by the home side. But there were occasions when we had time on the ball and a chance to show some composure - problem was we didn't.

Surprised / not surprised.

They were probably totally spooked by encountering a match atmosphere!

Honestly think a League Two set of officials would do a better job.

If that was the lino on the far side then he definitely needed a trip to Specsavers he was crap all game

But then all the officials were on Saturday, as they tend to be in this division.

Without wanting to blame everything on the kit (but maybe it is the kit??), there's probably a good reason you don't get many gold kits; it's not really a strong/vibrant colour and arguably players might have more trouble picking out their team mates, equally psychologically I wouldn't say it's a very inspirational colour either.

So yes let's not speak of it again and hopefully there's a return to Dennis the Menace next season.

In real time watching it, for the first goal it felt like Dunne might have got to the ball first ahead of Murphy had he committed to it, but he held back instead. Probably sensible, but then falling on his arse as Murphy prepared to pull the trigger didn't help much.

Not sure if Nardi's positioning was great either, but then it was a very decent shot which kissed the far post and went in.

Pompey and Circumstance Match Fred

Great old stadium, Rs fans in good voice in a packed away end, the sun was out. Football itself was fairly dire.

Have to say main highlight of the day was visiting the Historic Dockyards in the morning. Mary Rose exhibit in particular was really impressive. Can definitely recommend.

Yep - and the situation has been made more complicated by Chair being available again.

Basically, you can play Chair at 10 at home, Morgan at 10 away.

Gaffer on today's defeat

Agreed, and it's the same old song about the manager only being able to do so much until the players cross the white line; then they do have to take some responsibility in terms of adapting to the game in front of them.

But I still disagree with the manager's starting line up, and as mentioned he probably could have made his subs sooner.

Ultimately though pretty much all the players has a bad day at the office; main thing is we learn from the mistakes and we do better in the next match.

Cheers Clive - yeah felt like it was going to be a long afternoon as soon as the game kicked off. Pompey's kick and rush very effective, you could see why they do well at home and we didn't fancy it much, plus the ref was happy for them to leave a foot in most of the time.

Agreed on the team selection, I think Marti's got a bit carried away of late. Fine to be more attacking and open at home (for the most part) but away and especially at places like Portsmouth you need a bit more grunt in the middle to earn the right to play.

Decent away support as ever and it's still a great old ground, although the away end facilities leave something to be desired when it's packed out like that; probably not dissimilar to the School End though (albeit an al fresco version...).

On to the next one.
