Smyth’s smash and grab stuns City – Report
at 21:04:00

' Cifuentes’ team no longer wants to be open and expansive, it no longer even seems to want the ball – 30% possession this time to go with 37% in the recent Norwich and oxford wins, 32% in the draw at Watford and 25% at Burnley. '
..the skill of this coaching is adapting his players...There is ZERO attacking threat in this team. Yes Field got 2 last time out, ..kudos to Marti to realizing the outlet pass is our best weapon.

Everything but the goal – Report
at 21:05:54

Clive, brilliant report. I

I had to watch from the couch, but I vastly enjoyed the game agonizing as Ashby and Morrison missed sitters we could not dream of a few weeks ago. Morrison has been a massive revelation and Varane was a joy to watch. In VAST contrast to the Derby game, Celar was effective actually showing better timing and positioning.

In contrast to other opinion i look to Marti to rotate Frey and Jan once Mich is back.

Not just progress..but playing some good ball.

Twice in a week – Report
at 20:38:44

'Why, when they finished last season so strongly, and are clearly in such a different place from this time last year, do QPR keep falling into these grief holes from which they seemingly cannot escape...'

In all the previous comments the one thing I missed seeing is (especially given the pre-match predictions), the credit for pulling a DOUBLE, home and away, against a parachute team full of players who played in the Prem just a few months ago. And doing so with a new team, sans its star player, while constantly juggling on field.

QPR have lost 1 of six games and arguably could have had a result but for poor finishing in the 2nd half. I think before long we will be extolling the contributions of the midfield 4 rotation of Colback-Varane- Madsen-Field as we routinely do Cook-JCS-Dunne (and Paal).

Nardi first arrival, epitomising QPR’s about face – Signing
at 22:27:01

In my view, I can see Walsh getting a realistic look as a #1, spelling Nardi when necessary. My question is will we have a #3 keeper (experienced) to back Walsh and Nardi in case of injury etc.

End of Term 23/24 – Attack
at 17:43:00

Clive,

Sinclair. I felt that early on he was victimized by referees and targeted by opposing players trying to get him booked. Otherwise his pace and speed out on the right might have had more impact. Looking at Field's worldie late season which Sinclair basically takes the defender out of the play is am instance where his physical play probably gets penalized during Gareth's tenure.

The Coventry Conference – Report
at 20:50:45

From West Texas, Thank you. Your work is top notch and I care little for anyone else's report but yours. I look forward (hint) to an in-depth retrospective of Mart's comments throughout the season ESPECIALLY after the Wed and Millwall games when he was undoubtedly miffed but very controlled in his comments...like he was never worried. Also, JCS and Willock were two player constantly criticized by fans but who he has not only praised but whose performances he has elevated. unbelievable that we finish with 56 points ..6 better than the 50 point marker laid down at the start of the season. having started with a handicap.

Risen indeed – Report
at 23:09:03

Great work. As many have noted out on the forum, it IS great to be able to breathe a bit after dropping egregious points to Brom (unfairly). With 6 to play, and momentum, I would like to see us nail a midtable finish.

Alot of typing spent on Begovic. Is Viktor Johanson, someone you have extolled virtues about, one to watch?

Prestige performance puts QPR back in the hunt - Report
at 19:23:04

So.

YOU predicted this in last report. So, you are my star man this week.

In my contribution to the discussion I would like to note how Chair DOES NOT attempt a spectacular effort but places the shot in the corner- Note to Illias.

Second- I did feel the Stoke (unchanged) line-up was ill=-advised. And I did think the more defensive minded Chair with Hayden might raise the defensive product. I hope this does see our team elevate and go on a protracted deserved run into mid table.

Ever more new and creative ways to lose football matches – Report
at 04:20:22

Given the high praise you have dished, I want to add a discourse on Ilias and Lyndon. What ARE the chances that bids are made for the two? In my view BOTH are replaceable with current options. Marti has experimented openly. I think Sinclair/Smyth rotating on the right and Willock/ Smythe on the left are just as good. With funds being critical and options around in the lower leagues I will be looking to see if that materializes. regularly losing our best players is part of the QPR identity.

The season of evil begins with the birth of a new year – Report
at 15:03:05

My contribution. I harken back several years ago to the first season. He could only score penalties, then Charlie came back. Confidence and belief and discipline are critical. We just have to look at Shef Wed who hired a new manager and instantly improved.

Lauding Marti: in a short snapshot I believe 7 /11 goals conceded are all set-pieces. If Jake and Cook are together we are water tight. Reggie Cannon and Paal are a great CB set. So where is the liability. Definitely Field is amongst our best. Elijah has biblical potential.. and is improving. Liability…goal scoring!! I think everything has been weighted to this window, and the 3 most desired players we have are actually players we can replace..

A big month - Preview

Post-match:

-When I saw the team sheet I was switched off. BUT post match this team, hardly the team from Friday, could have pulled something off. We know Cook is far far and away our best defender, Colback is a notch over Dozzell. Point here is we know what we lack.

Considerate of all the talk, well presented in this post how can we keep Chair? If Dykes is courted certainly he must be swapped for cash. $6M, If Leeds really are still interested must be a carrot to large not to grab. The DNA of the team would benefit for an infusion of new spirit.

He said he’s changed, mum – Report
at 14:16:20

Thanks Clive. Ok we have evoked your frustration however to stage this comment I point to the ‘opinion’ again that QPR have yet to be outplayed in any of Martis games. I point to the post match comments and even The comments after the Millwall game. Instead of whining after a Blackpool- esque pulverizing, he points to lack of execution on his players part. Yes the debacle on the penalty calls and the Sheffield game were pointed to. … and using those points I think we ARE building and can consolidate. I look forward to games again and I hope the transfer window helps address some of our concerns.

Brace for impact, QPR crash at Millwall - Report
at 05:13:17

At this point we are hand full of points behind the survival marker. I January looms and Naryi clearly has his wish list. I wish a few of our play were a had done more to show they care. But on my himble opinion, the Rs have been in every game and should have netted more points. I have no doubt 1-2 players will change this team. Plus there are 2-3 players who NEED TO GO!

Typical defensive lapse makes it Saints' day at Loftus Road - Report
at 01:23:21

Clive,
At first read this sounds like the speech the gaffer gave to team after the game. After all the posts I have seen I am probably one of the more stoi of QPR fans. Too many pluses here. players to a man are playing soooooo much better. In the end the diagnosis is the same .. no goals. Unless Chair or Willock score we have no chance. Chair needs 10 shots to make 1 . If I was coach he would sit on the corner for a day for trying those 60 yard efforts that he never makes. Apparently Lyon want a midfielder .. please call Lee Hoos .. 5mil will do nicely. I will happily rotate Paul Smyth and Willock or Ziyad out on the left.

That money, I would use on any charismatic goal poacher from Scottish or league one. Or even a loan. I for one think one player… just me can be the difference maker. If we beat Milwall we go into the New Year way ahead of where it liked like we were going to be a couple of months ago.

Anatomy of a fall – Report
at 14:52:32

If we win this game we would be on a streak of 4/5 and bemoaning the Plymouth game. As it is I felt as per Marti’s comments that there were lessons to be learned. In fact both Wed and Plymouth have done the same trick to much better opponents. So lessons in my opinion suggest; Sam Field needs to be the defensive midfielder. Period. I also wonder if he could be shopped as one of our better players and often mentioned in trades. With Elijah’s emergence and Jack Colback and Dozzel in the rotation I could see this happening to generate funds supposedly needed. I still think Ossie can be an asset on the right side of a 3CB set, possibly late in games. And finally, maybe Chair should could shift to a central role and left Chris stay on his favored left wing with Sinclair on the right…as is the next 2 games are going to be interesting.

Quite the transformation - Preview
at 01:09:23

The game is over. With the advantage of hindsight plus the perspective of previous games, my overarching observation is that Marti is playing a new set of cards and like the fantasy football clique, is looking at who stays and who might not .. while focused on the long game.

I am usually disconsolate after a QPR loss, but for 86 min we were out of the relegation zone. I don’t doubt that we WILL get there but like many I can see a few changes while that happens. As that comes down can see a consistent core of players in the line up every week.
Willock is by far happiest on the left. Cook and Jake look like the best CB set, Paul Smythe is In my opinion best saved for the last 20 min. I can see 2-3 exits in Jan.

Light at the end of a two-year tunnel - Report
at 15:58:25

BEFORE this game I commented that the view from the stands SHOULD have been different. I felt uplifted simply by the first 3 performances under Marti. If Elijah or Taylor managed to squeeze shots inside the post vs Rotherham, If Field connects vs Norwich (with goal posts glaring) then we have a few more points in the bag. So I am of the mind this team (without additions) is set for a run. Caution to the faithfull.... last time we were optimistic Jeff Hendricks was the Christmas present. I would MUCH rather we stand firm and give Lakareche and Elijah, even Taylor a run. I think Sinclair and Smythe who are getting done for their National teams are also good options that we already have.

"Football is about achieving, not deserving" - Preview
at 17:24:29

Clive, If the ball bounces our way we could easily be talking of 8-9 points or so in Marti's 4 games. The chances have been there. Also, 4 goals conceded, 2 on the road compared to what happened before. Lots to be optimistic about. Not to mention the players seem to be up for it again.

A Ben Pearson own goal – Report
at 22:26:48

This Texas expat thanks you for your amazing report! Its only four games but my heartfelt opinion is that QPR could easily be winners of all four games. But for poor execution in and around the box plus injuries thinks could be quite rosy. As it is...and as WELL chronicled here, the potential evolution of Jake could be a huge difference maker, as could the availability of Reggie Cannon. Add to that the growing emergence of Elijah and return of Chris and I look forward to seeing what QPR can put together. No mention of Colback here, but if he does have to sit out, could Paal or Lakareche be tried in midfield?

QPR and Bristol City cancel each other out with new autumn fashion lines - Report
at 15:39:14

Clive, thanks for the therapy. I firmly believe this is the early start of something good. 1 goal surrendered in 2 games is epic given the tidal defensive leakage of the last 2 years.

Echoing Marshy: We have TWO strikers who feature for their country. Both have (probably) scored more for their country than club this year. I agree with Marshy but Sinclair and Dykes are such different commodities. I have always seen Dykes as a impact, second half or tactical component. Late game headers and wearing down tired centerbacks. His pneumonia could still be an issue. I would just as soon have Chair or Willock as a false 9.

We need to continue to harp on Elijah's exclusion, who as you point out actually understand the concept of forward play. I think Luke Amos' importance (especially when the team was last winning) is a talking point. I do believe Elijah could be in a diamond in the rough. If only he had netted one of his chances in the last 2 games.
