To answer the OP question In my opinion a huge factor is this culture of everyone having the right to be morally outraged and an increasing number abusing the privilege You’ll find those self same people can’t take anything on the chin but very quick to mouth off. We also have a culture of “instantism” now; everyone wants everything, they want it now and scream if they don’t get it. You mention football and it’s a great example but same rings true in many industries; Construction a fine example (highest male suicide in the 20’s to 40’s bracket in the UK is no shock) |

Could you add “my bladder after 2 pints nowadays” in the bits outside the circle? Then it’s something I’ll print out and be able to live my life by Thanks |

I did the same and found it okay. Babbage TV if you like. Now watching The Old Man (On Disney…. Sort of!) after recommendations on here. It started real slow but escalated dead fast. So far the stars of the show are Jeff Daniels two Rottys…. Great dogs! |

The use of Cheer Up Sleepy Jean originated at W12 didn’t it? Some story about an American marching band over for the Lord Mayors Show I recall. Then famously altered to any number of ditties such as Cheer Up Peter Reid Another favourite of mine was up at Villa away in the relegation from newly formed Premiership season. Fella who I still think I see (was an LSA Member) who had long straight hair and a beard was dressed in long flowing white robe. Everyone singing “Jesus! We need a miracle” I’m positive that happened but it was early 90’s and maybe my weekend activities carried over and it was a particularly vivid trip |

Don’t you start or Joe King will have you up for abuse an all. I’ve no idea what’s going on but it seems a bit fishy to me |

You seem to have an “i” instead of an “a” in there somewhere |

I feel a tad sick…. Just dawned on me that if Sir James goes the alternative is Ashby for the rest of the season. I do hope the club realise it’s not impossible for clubs to freefall at this stage of the game a lah Birmingham etc Christ…. I might even rob a bank, give the club £2mill, buy him myself and loan him back to the club for 3 years NOURRY SORT IT OUT YOUNG MAN |

Was chatting to two West Ham lads in work today and showed them this thread. They were absolutely gobsmacked. Apparently the good ol' cor blimey guv'nor Academy had touted young Ashby as a "big thing" and they were gutted the Geordies nabbed him for the price they did. I did ask them if the "big thing" they referred to would fit in a bucket, a stetson hat or around a u-bend. Maybe I've got him all wrong. Fair play and he wouldn't be the first, far from it. He could land at another club and be the dogs danglies. We'll see.... |

If this club allows James of the Dunne Clan leave I shall hunt down whoever signs off on that and they will pay.... with pain. |

Marti says bad news not bad injury The big question for me is what is he doing differently this season to last? |
| Forum Reply | Ashby throwing the jersey to the floor at 06:57 22 Jan 2025
I didn’t see him throwing his shirt on the floor —- for those that did can they confirm the jersey hit the floor or did he miss that as well? |

It’s not just those body parts in….. he comes out with the ball a lot of the time and in space and is composed enough to pick a pass. As stated above, he’ll have mad moments, but he will get better and better. Filled a big space today as for some reason Morgan seemed to play more inside right (and wider) than his usual position Varanne Varanne I gotta crush on you…. |

Surely that HAS to be it for Ashby at our club? He started the move that gave Dull City a route back into the game; but doesn’t he always. There must be some way we can cancel this loan this month? I’m amazed anyone can see anything positive about this fella, he’s up there with the worst defenders I’ve ever seen play for us (and he’s in good company there) Let’s have it right; we all know Sir James of the Dunne clan has now 1,000% reinvented himself as our marauding right back; so anyone else is cover. I’d take Santos as that man if only because we own him and, as bad as some things are he’s done, he’s done okay in patches. Two brilliant subs followed up by two woeful ones last 15 mins. I hope Marti did hook Ashby but if he did then I’m more mystified why he didn’t at HT v Leicester in the cup????? If Ashby has an Agent looking after him then I hope he’s been advising him to invest in property these last couple of years since he stole that Geordie contract |

Right That’s it I’m sold This fella is class and was MoM over the 90 mins for me yet again tonight. Getting better and better and better and I can see him being yet another double digit millions player for us in a year or so. He’s now moving around the pitch with grace and poise and breaks play up and starts forward moves in one action. Edging himself into POTY territory at the moment |

There is no such thing as a long trip home after 3 points on the road - longer the better is my recollection from my travelling days On which…. Surely it cannot be 22 years since Ooooh Richard Paquetre in the back of the net….Yeah! I remember that day and the trip there like it was yesterday Was interested to see who you made MoM and I thoroughly agree in the choice of Smudge. So pleased for the wee man. A very close second has to be Samuel Field….. if the net had rippled he would have bagged it but that really was his only blemish and he played a true Captain role for the whole game. Onwards |
