Morgan has been deployed more in the 6/8 role than the 10. I may be mistaken but I can only recall Kieran in the 10 role once. In any event, QPR have enough number 10s on their books, there's no need to shoehorn Morgan there. I agree that at some point the team has to play in the club's vision but only when the manager has the right tools for the job. As things stand, the current squad has proven time-and-time again to be far more proficient at pragmatic than expansive football. It'll take more windows and good recruitment (particularly in midfield) to get to the latter. [Post edited 25 Feb 16:04]

I think we're crossing wires because you're confusing different conversations. I realise that it's difficult for your bored mind to comprehend so allow me to summarise. I spoke only of the aggregate payroll figure, something which you dismissed as idle speculation. I went to the trouble of pinpointing the exact figure in the report yet you continue to deny its existence. Bully for you. I agree that the report doesn't quote exactly what each individual earns. I never claimed that so take that up with whomever did. That particular point is therefore redundant for the purposes of our specific conversation. My point is very different. Now, hopefully you live in the real world and you don't need to see payslips in order to appreciate that football players command generous salaries that dwarf that earned by club physios, doctors, groundsmen, ticket office staff, youth coaches, retail staff, caterers, turnstile operators, drivers, receptionists, etc. It's not a stretch therefore to presume that the first team squad account for the lion's share of the aggregate payroll figure (a point which you agreed with). As a result, the figures are enough to get a sense of the average salary of a first team player. Now if you find this emotive, I apologise, but it's the world we currently live in. It may be unpalatable for some but getting to grips with the figures is vital to meeting P&S rules and ultimately achieving a sustainable model. Pretending otherwise would be foolish and counter-productive. [Post edited 25 Feb 15:57]

I'm not so sure about home performances being that impressive. Our home form was shocking to begin with, the first win didn't arrive until 7th December. For me, the recruitment of too many number 10s left the squad unbalanced. The desire to accommodate them all has seen Marti experiment recently with Ilias in a central position, with Morgan seemingly sacrificed. Kieren can feel somewhat aggrieved as his form was excellent and he was a key factor in the team's resurgence. IMHO he didn't deserve to be dropped. However, I agree that the poor form of Madsen is another key problem. We're desperately short of tough but creative central midfielders who can dictate proceedings and play incisive passes in behind. We've had to compensate for this shortfall by packing 3 in the middle. It was less pleasing to the eye but enjoyable nonetheless as we started competing and winning games. When we revert to a midfield 2 we struggle to exert control, and make players like Barry Bannon look like Zinedine Zidane. |

Goodness me, gazza, it's not rocket science. On page 19 you'll find section 4 "Particulars of employees". There it states that 176 staff cost £23,783,000 in payroll costs. [Post edited 25 Feb 3:28]

You have been informed by senior club officials on the finance side of the club. Lee Hoos himself presents the report on behalf of the Board of Directors and signs off the financial statements contained within. The payroll information is there for all to see on page 19. It doesn't take a mathematical genius to analyse this information. Now, if you prefer to bury your head in the sand, that's your prerogative, but keep your weak criticism of those who choose not to to yourself (especially when you can't even be bothered to take a look at the accounts). Whilst I have a lot of time for Marti, I do find it a little frustrating that we abandoned what worked well at the back end of last season for a more expansive approach that ultimately resulted in a nightmare start to this. We then reverted to a more pragmatic approach that brought a remarkable up-turn in form only to tinker again once comfortably mid-table. Though we've only an outside shot of making the play-offs this season, it would be nice to give it a crack by sticking with a winning formula, even if that's at the expense of Cruffyian principles. I somewhat disagree. The figures are there in the public domain and therefore open to scrutiny. Whilst there isn't a low-level breakdown of each and every player salary, there is enough high level information on staff and payroll to make an educated estimate on average player salary. Page 19 of the accounts shows that payroll costs for the year end 31-May-2024 was just shy of £24m (a figure that excludes key management compensation). Now whilst this was paid to 176 staff, I don't think it's a stretch to presume that the first team squad of 24-ish players earned the lions share of that. Unless, of course, folk think that stadium, retail, admin, maintenance and support staff were being paid millions, in which case you can expect to see me flipping hot dogs at HQ soon. It's not idle speculation. The accounts are published and in the public domain. At least have the decency to look at them before you decide to criticise folk for discussing player wages. However, if you're "a football man not a f'ing accountant" and you find the topic "emotive" then I suggest for your own well-being that you stick to commenting solely on the football. There's 2 ways of looking at that fixture list. The negative outlook is to think that with 7 of the remaining games against top 10 sides, we're toast. The positive outlook is to think that matches against teams above us are essentially 6-pointers so winning those gives us a better chance of making the play-offs than beating teams below us. FWIW I think the poor start has left us with an outside chance of making it however, whilst there's still a chance we should go for it. [Post edited 17 Feb 13:54]

I wouldn't be too concerned as Morrison came on last night. After two injuries this season he needs to be bedded in gradually. If he can stay fit, he'll be a mainstay next season. |

You're reaching, pal. Derby had 51% possession and 1 shot on target. Other than the sitter that Yates missed, Derby didn't create any clear cut chances. Yates' miss came in the 83rd minute with QPR 4-0 up and declaring having put Madsen on the pitch. Yates' finish was so poor that you simply can't put it down to bad luck. As for the offside, it's offside, so no further discussion required. Your assessment also neglects to consider the other decent chances which QPR had to add to their tally of 4 goals. Cook could and perhaps should have made it 3-0 in the first half with a free header from a corner. Saito had a decent effort deflected wide. Frey's magnificent effort from long range that almost hit top bins. After considering chances for both sides, one could easily argue that it could've been 6-1. However, what it most certainly wasn't was a 3-2 game. Not in a month of Sundays. To even suggest a close contest is an irrational conclusion. Now, let's see what the rest of the world thinks. The BBC have gone with the headline "QPR rip Derby apart as new boss Eustace suffers in first game." Sky are running with "QPR thrash Derby as Eustace learns about scale of task at hand." West London Sport - "Chair scores twice as superb QPR thrash Derby." Meanwhile, Derbyshire Live rated every Derby player bar one a 4 out of 10. The one exception was a 4.5. In short, it was a dominant and convincing 4-0 victory. |

It's definitely shaping up to be the mother of all tussles for the final 2 play-off spots. Anyone from 5th to 15th is in with a shout. |

As the old saying goes, goals change games! Given that Chair scored on 21 minutes, that means we dominated the match for 69+ minutes. |
