| News Comment | Southampton V West Ham United The Verdict at 12:56:57
That was far more entertaining to watch that most of the games this season. We all have to be real that we only have a 3% chance of staying up, so we need to work things out on how we will move forward. Having only 2 days to train the players, you can't expect the gaffer to change the way we play completely. Several times we slowed the attack down due to the old way of thinking. Of the headers Tall Paul had, only 2 allowed him to get power or accuracy and one was saved by Fabianski. Mattues had the best header opportunity and he sent it right to Fab's feet. Anyone who doesnt rate Tall Paul did not watch the same game. He is a classic tall forward and was able to collect the long balls forward and then distribute. WH back 4 could not deal with him when Ramsdale sent it long. I agree that some of the subs were weird. Suguwara had worked hard and Manning should have come on, not Bree. KWP should have gone to right back then. I agree that Archer should have come on at some point. Unfortunately, I dont think Aribo had a good game and it probably should have been someone else to come on for him. Lallana doesnt have the speed anymore to keep up with the pace needed when we are chasing a goal. He needs to be used when we need to control the ball and slow the game down. Ok, so we have things to improve on, but it looks a lot better and it definitely more enjoyable to watch. On to the next, COYR. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Liverpool The Carabao Cup Verdict at 14:38:23
So I think we can all agree that baby steps are needed to try and find the right way to play going forward as the team has been drilled into the RM way for almost 2 years and will not change overnight. As for Tall Paul, I think RM had no idea how to use him. A classic Tall CF and a fast winger/CF would work well as Paul could flick on the headers or hold the ball up and pass to the open space behind the defense for the shorter/quicker CF/winger to run into. This is some basic stuff but RM would not even entertain it. You have to play to your teams abilities and this is one area we never tried to develop. Well onto Fulham. |
| News Comment | Southampton At Aston Villa The Verdict at 18:04:46
So many things wrong it is not funny. WHY do you pay Bree instead of Siguwara (who can cross and play the ball forward). THB had a Horrible game and I counted 4 times that AA made runs behind the defense into open space with THB on the ball and all THB could do was raise his hand and say sorry. So Liverpool have Mo Salah, who they specifically play the ball over the top into open space so he can use his speed. RM - maybe here is an idea - use AA and Archer the same way - duh!!!. Dibbling has a poor game over all and went missing the whole 1st half. Are we under orders not to cross or shoot from the edge of the box and are required to dribble the ball into the net??? Enough - so here is my prediction: KWP, Tall Paul will be sold in the transfer window. In the summer when we are relegated, THB, Dibbling, Mateus, Ramsdale and Siguwara will be sold, and I think Downes, Archer, AA, Aribo and Sulemana will ask to leave. Final note - due to RM's arrogance and stupidity (along with SR), I will not and cannot watch any more Saints games until he is gone. This type of football is suicidal and I get mad every time I watch a player slow down the attack for the sole purpose of "possession". I wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. |

So, I will only say this about the VAR - The call on the field was for off-side of the goal scorer and it was tight so I expected VAR to look at it. So once Archer was proven to be onside, then it is over. The REF did not say he interfered with the goal, so why was VAR re-referring the play and adding to it. That is where the VAR refs are failing and they failed miserably at this one. My biggest concern with VAR is that these refs in the VAR booth are being subjective on many call and there are serious consequences to their opinions. We should have 4 more points and in the thick of the battle, not adrift but because of VAR refs and their opinions we dont. These calls get teams relegated in the end and for us, that will mean losing dibbling, KWP, and others, which will have a great long term impact on our club. But PMGOL doesnt care as all they do is give lame excuses to cover that arse and there is no discipline against the so-called refs in the VAR booth. The PL needs to start handing out some serious fines for these refs.. Rant over. |

So - many you have made excellent and well reasoned points. Just want to touch on our PEN - while TB foot was hit before/on the line, his knee and AR calf/knee were over and that is what caused TB to go down. So yes it should have been and was correctly awarded a PEN. Now RM - when the WHOLE PL, I mean the WHOLE PL know that if you press us in the back we will give you chances. Including this game we have ley in 8 goals from our errors and offered another 14 that were not capitalized on (in the box). Why do you think all the managers say they LOVE how we play - because they know we will cough up goals. EVBERYONE KNOWS, so maybe RM should change it up, especially if you are playing the #1 team in the league. Next when RM said he put the most attacking side out there that he could, MAYBE, just MAYBE that was a stupid idea considering you were playing players out of position to achieve this stupid idea. Lastly, it is obvious that the players are afraid to disobey RM and this suicide play in our box for fear of not being picked the next week. IF SR can't see this, then they have already decided we are relegated and are willing to have it happen so they can sell our best players for a profit. They will keep RM and that is that. Ok rant over as nothing will change. At least now I know when my wife asks me if I am free to help during the game, I can say yes without any fear of missing anything significant. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Wolverhampton Wanderers The Verdict at 15:04:26
So like everyone else, I was very frustrated with the idiots in the VAR booth. When you look at the replays, both should have been in our favor and that VAR came out with a statement, just shows how they know they got it so wrong on the our goal. Enough of that. I was a RM fan, but I think he has lost the plot and his tactics are now completely obviously broken. When FD needs to be replaced before kick off and you put JA on instead of TD, then you have lost it. That RM did not switch AL out at HT, is another shocker. That RM did not order the back 4 to play skip passes and send Archer on the run to stretch their defense, shows his poor tactics. I could go on and on but you get the point. So, with some sadness (as I wanted RM to succeed) I am not in the camp that RM needs to go. If we keep him, we have openly admitted that we accept relegation. If that is the case, fine but just come out and admit it. Enough then - let's see what the next few days bring. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Manchester United The Verdict at 13:10:24
Many valid points here. When I learned that CA never took a penalty, if I was Brenton, I would have told him to "STFU, I am taking it!". RM saying that CA was practicing for 2 weeks during the break for a PK, it ridiculous. If that was the best CA can do after 2 weeks of practice, he needs to never take one again. Next - I do not understand why RM is playing B-D out on the wing when he is not a winger. This makes no sense as he is never near the box when any ball is played in because half the time he is the one playing it in. I think if we dont get a win at Ips or Bourn, then RM will be sacked. As previously stated, he may have taken us as far as his managerial skills can. The real issue is that SR do not have an idea of who to bring in. SP is mesmerized by the "statistics game/angle" versus getting a proven Prem Manager. Obviously only time will tell, but I fear we will be relegated again and will lose all the good young talent we have accumulated. We have not done a good job in bringing in experience to help the youth. Hope I am wrong. |
| News Comment | Southampton Agree Transfer Fee For Tall Paul Onuachu at 16:18:02
Paul was a perfect "Plan B" for when the system needs to be changed in a game. That RM can't see that shows a shortcoming as a coach. Tall Paul can score and we need that NOW. Just shaking my head by this poor decision. |
| News Comment | Southampton At Brentford The Damning Verdict at 15:06:06
Some very good points by all. Not to rehash most of them, but I think we need to go to a 4-3-3 , because we have nobody up the middle at the top, so the opposition CB can play wider and squeeze out forwards who are just sitting on the sidelines. We don pass the ball fast enough to get around the corner for this to work. Also, we don't skip-pass to the wings fast enough, so the opposition can shift in time. I agree with everyone who stated the Dibling needs to start. RM excuse is about fitness and experience is BS. Smallbone, Aribo and Armstrong need to sit the next match. Finally, I think RM has no plan B with his stupid "Live by the sword" comment. You know what is a Plan B - Tall Paul. We can use him as a target man and cross in to the box. Finally, I agree with the post that our CBs are scared to boot the ball for fear that RM will bench them the next game because they are not playing his idea of football out form the back. He needs to let them know it is OK to boot it long if you dont have a clear outlet to the sideline. Ok, two weeks to try and forget this nightmare of a game and then Manure to play, who look just as lost. Kudos to Siguwara for a brilliant goal. |
| News Comment | Southampton Put In BId For Feyenoord Keeper at 13:58:16
Well I would prefer a GK with PL experience like Ramsdale or Steele, but I guess this will do. I read that Wolves are looking at Ramsdale for around $20M and if they get him for that, I think Saints have done us a disservice with buying more midfielders. Time will tell. Ok let's see how this plays out. |
| News Comment | Southampton Sign Portuguese Midfielder at 00:15:31
OMG - What the F are we doing>>>>. We NEED a GK like NOW. Any idiot can see this except for the nits in the recruitment and board rooms. After this weekend, EVRYONE will increase their price for a GK by $5M as they know we are in a bad spot. I bet we dont sign a GK and AM will cost us at least 10 pts this season. Remember this if we are in the relegation scrap. FFS!!!! I am so pissed off right now. |
| News Comment | Transfer To Southampton To Be Announced On Tuesday at 19:45:05
FFS - We do not need another midfielder. This just tells me that we are selling Charlie to Italy. What are we doing?? Seriously, who is running the recruitment office? WE NEED A GOALKEEPER - not a midfielder. Again - FFS!!!! |
| News Comment | Southampton At Newcastle United The Verdict at 13:16:20
Nick - you are being too generous. As everyone rightly points out here, it was AM fault, pure and simple. I don't care that RM wants to play it out, a GOOD GK will know when it is time to just hoof it and clear the space. AM knows he is not good with his feet, just look at him after the ball was in the net, he KNEW it was all his fault. Please stop defending him, like RM did. The reality is that AM is not a Premier League GK, jus that simple. So, my question is if the Board can't see this after ALL of us, knowing this, then there is something going on in the background. Getting a new GK is our #1 priority and just pay the money or we will be looking at relegation fight the whole season. We DO NOT need another midfielder as the media is reporting now - simple as that. Someone or some people need to get their heads our of their a**es. Ok, onto the next one. |
| News Comment | Saints Switch Attention To Belgium International Midfielder at 18:57:38
We have enough midfielders - If you wanted to add anyone, then MO from Celtic should have been the only one and we should have just paid the $25M. Nest - Get our Goalkeeper sorted out FAST! - That should be our priority 1 as AM will pass the ball to the opposition way too many times. Yes go get the Dortmund Striker after the goalie. |
| News Comment | West Ham United Linked With Southampton Defender at 14:55:47
Highfield - I understand you point and there is validity to it if KWP had a verbal agreement to stay last year. You are right, we dont know what was agreed to behind closed doors, etc., but if let's say he was making $50k/week., I don't think it unreasonable to offer him 75-85/week., since he is a known quantity and was our best player by far. As for Downes, we do know what we are getting, so paying 12-15M for him that WU want is not too outrageous. Also agree that Ings will stay for the $$$ versus moving for a pay cut - No incentive. Yes, it KWP is unsettled, then take the money & Downes and move on. I just feel we should be focusing on a Striker (1st), LB and CB, instead of haggling with WU. |
| News Comment | West Ham United Linked With Southampton Defender at 16:54:51
This would be a stupid move. As stated above, KWP is one of a few that has PL experience and we need that desperately, especially in our defense. Let's be honest, Ings is not worth 6M as he might score 4-5 goals if not injured. Downes is a solid player, but not flush with PL experience. Reading the rumors that we have bid for RB out of Turkey is not comforting either. It is not like we have spend major money so far. The smart thing to do is to offer KWP a much improved contract for 4 years. He is a known factor who plays the way Martin wants, so we should suck it up and offer him a the better contract and then pay for Downes. Forget Ings complete as that is a red herring. Just my two cents. |
| News Comment | These Are The Six Positions That Southampton Need To Fill For Premier League Survival at 16:54:38
I think the top 3 priorities are as follows: 1. GK - We should go after Ramsdale or even Ortega - We need a proven #1 GK. GB has time to learn more and could a star in the future but was shaky at time I think a season or two of seasoning will do him well. 2. Striker - I know everyone want a world class one, but since we will nto spend $50 need for one, then we need to look at some proven PL strikers, especially if Che leaves (looks more like it). 3. LB - This is one of our weakest points. I thought RP did well enough but over the last few days there have been some decent PL experienced LB released from some of the major clubs and we should go get one. After these, the dominoes fall for Midfield and CB and there are so many factors in these spots that you will need another article for them. Just happy to be able to watch the Saints again every weekend in the US. COYR |
| News Comment | Southampton Linked With La Liga Striker at 16:45:28
If we lose Che, I think he would be a good option. I watched him in several of the games at the end of the season and he is good around the box. Let's be honest, we are not going out and spending $50M on a striker and many of the $20M strikers are no better than him. He has PL experience and doesnt need time to "break-in" like many other players coming from other leagues. For the 8-10M reported fee, that is a good buy. |
| News Comment | Southampton At Leicester The Debacle at 20:40:04
Also, don't forget that who ever else in in the playoffs with us, will watch this game and copy the tactics, which will obviously cause us issues since RM can't change tactics on the fly. We will have to wait and see what happens. |
