Barton: 'I could have caused problems at QPR to seal Marseille move' 11:08 - Oct 3 with 9079 views | JonDoeman | Joey Barton has claimed that he could have "caused problems" for Queens Park Rangers in a bid to push through a permanent move to Marseille. The former Newcastle United midfielder has been open about his desire to return to the Ligue 1 outfit following a loan stint last season. Despite wanting a permanent transfer, QPR demanded a fee for the midfielder, but Marseille were understood to have failed to meet their valuation. "I am 31, I am not young, I have a certain salary and to pay a fee for an old guy like me, that is asking a lot," Barton told L'Equipe. "I could have caused problems here at the club so they would let me go. I even think that would have worked, but I am not that kind of guy. I have never done that at a club in my career." Barton has been praised for his performances in the Championship this season since returning to Loftus Road. http://www.sportsmole.co.uk/football/qpr/news/barton-i-could-have-caused-problem Respect Joe.....

Barton: 'I could have caused problems at QPR to seal Marseille move' on 15:13 - Oct 3 by DylanP | Why can't he just shut up? Players should do their talking on the field and keep their mouths shut. He was doing so well at shutting up.Why oh why can't he keep it closed? |
Because he's Joey Barton and thank goodness there is only one. What he say's is one thing , what he does on the football pitch is another.
Barton: 'I could have caused problems at QPR to seal Marseille move' on 21:13 - Oct 3 with 1362 views | QPR1882 | Did he score Saturday ? i think he did. I cheered anyway and was quite happy, went and had a few beers and went home. Did not go on twitter or any other media so don't give a fck what he said/done was just happy with what he did on the pitch. Will be hoping for the same on the pitch this weekend. Guess i will catch up with his twitter/media remarks on here next week. Funny how the ones moaning about JB twitter/media comments are always the ones that go looking for them to post on here.

Agreed. Joey is a very articulate person and, if his own publicity is to be believed, thoughtful and smart. But football players are there to play football. They should stick to that. Otherwise, their words just get sensationalized and used to cause trouble. Everything is going really well at the club right now. Do we need to risk something getting taken the wrong way and causing friction? Shut up and play. Not just Joey, but all of them. The job at hand is winning football matches and, ultimately, getting promoted. Focus on that and if you are 100% focused on that, they the mouth will naturally stay shut.

Barton: 'I could have caused problems at QPR to seal Marseille move' on 16:19 - Oct 3 by A40Bosh | A sending off? No, that is par for the course for any given footballer during a season, and a marked man like Barton with previous has to have an increased chance of being picked on to make him react by opponents and I think they have tried this tactic already and failed. If it was a straight red for stabbing an opponent in the eye with a lit cigar, resulting in him head-butting the ref and then the lino on his way over to offering out the entire opposition team and fans, then ok, that I would consider a major incident. |
Fair enough. That gives him a fighting chance!

I always laugh when fans think that footballers should not say what they think/feel while, usually, at the same time, criticising most players for talking in bland cliches.

I celebrated. What do you think? I'm a QPR fan, not a Barton fan. So I celebrated as always when the goal went in and applauded him. I didn't join in with the One Joey Barton w@nkathon after it though

Barton: 'I could have caused problems at QPR to seal Marseille move' on 11:53 - Oct 4 with 1207 views | zicoshoops | I suppose it's about opinions. My opinion for what it's worth, is that it was a shameful day when we signed him. Decided that I wouldn't part with a single penny while he's with us. It means I've missed two seasons, probably the rest of this one and maybe the next one as well. That's my choice and I'll live with it.

Hopefully you can start catching the Rs once more from January onwards then, especially bearing in mind his absence from the team photo. Yes I hear he was allowed to go off and not take part, but I like to think it'll tempt fate

You have to get the timing right and stop clapping just at the right moment to let Barton know that you are applauding the goal and not the man. It's a very fine line.

I will cheer goals, and clap and support his individual performances/in-game play. But for me it is too early to join in the 'One Joey Barton' stuff. Let's wait and see, if he keeps going the way he is, I will be more than happy to throw as much support his way that he wants. I also dont mind others around me doing it, I just dont understand why certain other players seem to get much less praise and motivation when they have done so much less to associate the club I love with negative perceptions.

Zico, I applaud your principle in this matter, I would not really care if Barton left the club tomorrow, I stopped a long time ago putting players on pedestals, especially those whose indescretions both off and on the pitch bring shame to the sport I have partcipated in and supported for many decades. Professional footballers lead a priviledged lifestyle, with it go certain responsibilities whether they like it or not, in todays media led society even more so, not easy living your life in a 'gold fish bowl' but the rewards available are astronomical and for a relativily short period of their life they are expected to act in a manner that befits the status bestowed upon them. Some will find it harder than others and will fall of the rails, people will forgive certain indescreations and even criminal acts, in football it seems that no matter how unprofessionly a player decides to act, what criminal acts are commited off the pitch they are forgiven as long as they can have an impact on the pitch. The shame lies with the supporters for allowing this to happen, Barton may not have commited murder but has acted in a totaly unprofessional manner on more than one occasion with our club, as far as I am concerned I would prefer that men like Barton were not employed by our club, but then maybe the standards I live my life by are much more different to a lot of others.

Except that cheering him (any of our players) will/should improve his/their performance thus being beneficial to ourselves, whereas barracking our own players is counterproductive.
Barton: 'I could have caused problems at QPR to seal Marseille move' on 14:25 - Oct 4 with 1106 views | whittocksRs | No idea why this sort of thing is a surprise to anyone. Barton, as it's been proven loads of times before, cares only for Barton. At the moment, he's decided winning the title with QPR is the thing to do, and that's great for us because he's a proper footballer when he plays. Barton didn't move to Marseille because his wage demands were too high, i.e. not the best thing for Joey Barton to do. Our 'demand' for a fee had nothing to do with it.
Barton: 'I could have caused problems at QPR to seal Marseille move' on 14:29 - Oct 4 with 1102 views | JonDoeman | "I’m back, and I’m up for the challenge The season ahead with QPR is vital; the Championship can be a difficult league to bounce back from. Just look at the likes of Blackburn, Bolton and Leeds — all have been well established Premier League teams at some point. QPR’s main priority is promotion back to the Premier League. Having played in the Championship before with Newcastle I’m aware of the task ahead, every week will be a battle, no game will be easy. The prize is too big to not take is seriously. With the squad we have and a manager heavily experienced in this domain, we have all the ingredients of a title contending squad. As far as I am concerned it’s time to roll our sleeves up and get stuck in. " http://www.joeybarton.com/qpr/

But surely the philosophy department at Roehampton is better than the philosophy department at Marseilles? Not to mention that a lot of these Frenchies don't understand you when you speak English with a French accent.

From the article where he's bleating on about Tone 'blocking' his move to Marseille (yeah, he blocked it by asking the other club for money, what a slave driver and mean person he is Joey) “If I have to stay [at QPR], I at least want to have fun on the field.” - Note the 'if'. He's not happy about the whole thing. However, he knows that people seem to swallow everything he shits out on Tw@tter and his personal page.

Can you not cut the man some slack, and give him him a chance? All he's guilty of this season, is helping QPR win football matches. [Post edited 4 Oct 2013 15:40]
