Liam Smith on 17:35 - Jan 24 with 1470 views | Whiterockin | I would say he and the club knew he had no long term future with us and he has found a club to give him a contract. Edit Because his contract was up in June. [Post edited 24 Jan 17:40]

No and I’m sure he’s not a huge earner. A few alarm bells ringing lately though. No permanent signings. Struggling with Low because of how we wanted to structure the payments. Abdulai looked like a short contract extension and a loan to somewhere like Orient all day long. See if he could capture his U21 form in league one then make a decision. Hopefully you and WR are right and there was just no benefit to keeping Smith here.

There is only truly ONE untouchable. He is possibly the highest earner. Darling is too important to allow him to leave on the cheap but without a suitable offer, he will. Fulton, I used to like him but it's time he left. Best for him and us.

If a player is on a higher contract than he will get elsewhere, he’s not going to move. If a player is a few months from the end of his contract, it’s going to take a huge offer to tempt him. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I do not make it personal. Darling is a professional footballer and in my opinion will accept a playing role somewhere if told his Swansea career is over. He it seems is highly rated in Swansea and on good money but no one else rates him . This is blatantly untrue. He will be idle with two or three offers on the table. No football will choose to be idle over playing. This is a reasonable logic. Asoro walked. Whittaker went down a league for game time. It was you was it not ? pedalling untruths about Darling being able to sign a pre contract before you were corrected .

Sign legally no but agree in principle yes, it happens all the time. Incidentally which is the situation.

Plymouth were in our league weren’t they? Unless you mean he went down a division on loan for game time?

Wasn't he highly thought of at the club, I'm sure there were serious expectations that he would break through into the first team.

Fulton at his best was boringly average. Not good enough to play midfield for Swans.

Fulton is one of those players who has made a career out of being not quite good enough for the first team but we have never managed to replace. Alan Tate and Kyle Naughton are another 2 in that category

We recall Liam Smith from Partick Thistle whilst on loan and release him immediately. He then signs for Queen of the South. Wouldn't it be better for us to have sold him for a nominal sum and a sell on clause? Surely we shouldn't be letting any youngster go without a sell on clause?

What also cannot be questioned is the fact that when the midfield drops it's work rate we gets bullied and get pushed deeper and deeper, we have seem the difference that it makes having a fit Allen has for 30 minutes even Paterson when he could be asked to play but he couldn't keep it up for 90 minutes both burn themselves out. We need that youth In the midfield to help Grimes if you are going to play him. We have seen how Franco is a much needed addition in the midfield but he cannot cover the whole midfield to stop us being pushed deeper you have to add some more steel to that midfield, Cullen's lack of experience in the midfield is evident, Steve Cooper played 3 in the middle to try and get the midfield working properly with more success than Martin who tried four, even wonder loan Platino struggled with us dropping so deep not helped by his inexperience. Would Liam Smith have been our rock in the midfield who knows, the nonesense that William's has said in his press conferences that our young players cannot displace our existing players is suicidal, a Captian who ends up brushed aside constantly and forever playing on the backfoot thinking he is needed in the middle of defence when it is the midfield where we are deficient in,one of the reason Key and Tymon are asked to pull into the midfield. Fulton has become a poor Grime's clone, and Allen is not the answer, a more forward thinking Downes ended up being a clone but a better one making Grimes a passenger who just got in the way as he does trying to play out from the back. Grimes is a more experienced player than our youngsters but does he add that much to our team. We have seen how much the likes of youthful Jordan James has added to the Welsh team even the not so young lower league playing Josh Sheehan has fitted into the Welsh midfield and yet we let our youngsters go untested at a higher level alongside better players dropping down leagues on loan to get match hardened only helps if they get game time but the team they are being loaned out to has to have a quality of players that will help our youngsters but then again it is easy for managers to blame youngsters for their shortcomings and drop them like a stone than admit the players they are fitting into the team alongside aren't good enough. Liam Smith gone, Abdulai gone, Congreve and Cotterill getting game time for the last first part of the season seems like it may be a good time to bring them back and see if they can really step up into a team that is woefully short of options in the midfield. We seem to be skirting around the problem in the midfield but with our lack of cover now being exposed in our defence that has put the problem on the back-burner.

I think Blackpool thought I was talking about Liam Smith when I was referring to Whittaker. Crossed wires somewhere. I wasn’t questioning Smiths ability or attitude. I don’t know enough about him.

Nor do I but if anything showed us the midfield is weak is the fact we are trying to use fullbacks in the midfield it obviously confuses them as to what they should be doing.
