Some supporters who attended the Preston game, may have been aware of a medical emergency that occurred in the Upper Loft right at end of the match. Andrew had had a brain haemorrhage and was taken to Charing Cross hospital. He spent 2 weeks in ICU over Christmas with family at his bedside but very sadly, at the age of only 61, he died last week.
Some of you will have known Andrew and many of you will have sat near him ,as he had a a season ticket in the upper loft for over 30 years.
It may have been that Andrew’s last conscious thoughts were celebrating that Jimmy Dunne very late winning goal and all the joy of a dramatic victory, at a place he spent so many happy times. This may give those who knew and loved him a tiny crumb of comfort. When thinking about Bill Shankly’s quote about football being more important than life and death, well what happened to Andrew certainly contradicts those words.
Andrew has been taken decades too early and our thoughts are with Vanessa, Michael,Miranda and all his family and friends. RIP Andrew

What terrible news, 61 is no age. Reading that FT piece and seeing the pictures, his is a face I certainly remember seeing in, and around the loft when I had a season ticket in the UL.

Condolences to his family and friends on their loss.

RIP Andrew

This is terrible news. Known Andrew from going to QPR for the last 15 years or so and we often stopped and chatted .

Unbelievably sad to read this just now as I didn’t know .

That’s now 3 friends die in 5 days . Devastating , plus my son’s partners best friend who died of ‘flu’ at the age of 26 on Wednesday .
Been a terrible week and puts our result today in to perspective . It’s not important .

Rest easy Andrew, Jason and Freddie.

Absolutely tragic. Rest In Peace Andrew.

Be nice if we could organise a round of applause during the 61st minute of the Sheffield Wednesday game.

Sobering and saddening in equal measure, and really puts today's game into a healthier perspective. Best wishes to the family.

That is so sad to hear, especially at that time of year.

Just read his obit in the FT and saw not only a fellow hoop, but a fellow LSE History alum too. Gutted to have never made his acquaintance.

It's terrible when people pass away, but the greatest compliment for your life if for it to have been worthy of remembrance.

The link to Andrew’s obituary no longer works, because the FT set a limit to the number of people who can use it🤷‍♂️
You can still read the article by putting Andrew Slade FT into a search engine.
