T' 2023 tests 14:19 - Feb 15 with 28718 views | D_Alien | Amid the impending doom back home, the rejuvenated England squad will start their first test of this calendar year at 1am (our time, obvs.) NZ have their injury and selection problems, whilst we seem to have a wealth of players chafing at the leash to show how positive and talented they are. All this, under a captain who may just go down as our GOAT. Typically, he's more interested in bringing out the best in others: https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/ben-stokes-message-as-england-captain-show-th With so much potentially great cricket ahead of us this year, thought i'd make it a thread for the entirety rather than different series. Bring it on! [Post edited 15 Feb 2023 14:45]

T' 2023 tests on 17:59 - Jun 28 by watford_dale | Agreed, would prefer Foakes in as wkt - better with the gloves and if the top 6 do their job then there should be no need for a batting wkt keeper. Keep Bairstow in for his bat. Would have been tempted to play Wood and would have rested Broad or Anderson but prob Anderson due to the conditions being in his favour but no wickets - is he injured? |
He was injured earlier in the season playing for Lancs, then missed about 6 weeks before returning for the 1st Test but without any rhythm or conditioning Our attack looks toothless in what should be ideal conditions Edit... i've done it again! Immediately after posting, we get two in an over - Root with the tooth [Post edited 28 Jun 2023 18:23]

T' 2023 tests on 00:18 - Jul 2 with 2381 views | Sandyman | Another bizarre day at the test. Australia the better team, sadly. Hope we can perform a miracle tomorrow. The strangest thing of all was Glenn McGrath spitting his dummy out big time on TMS because Starc "caught" the ball and proceeded to score a try with it by dragging it along the grass, which is against the rules as has been clearly explained elsewhere online. Too many tinnies Glenn? Perhaps he wanted a few rasps of sandpaper to the ball as well? "Same old convicts......" The third umpire said not out, McGrath threw a benny. McGrath was one of the best bowlers ever, but he's a shockingly bad pundit and has been for some years. He was also disrespectful to match officials. The BBC should kick him off. Jim Maxwell and Jason Gillespie presented a far more sensible Australian-biased view in the 1st test on TMS.

The response from the old farts in the long room says it all. One geyser had ago with I think it was Warner. Brilliant.

Is it not more a case of just dozy cricketing from Bairstow. Is this why the majority, everyone except Bairstow, ground their bat and usually wait behind the line? I believe that Ollie Pope did the same to Degrandomme in the test against New Zealand last year and he was given out. It's not the first time this has happened but it has livened it up and hope that Stokes sorts it.

Another great finish & I thought Stokes was going to do it for us. In Fairness, the Aussies were the better team with Stokes & to some degree Duckett making it look closer than it was, especially as they had lost Lyon who could have done something in the 4th innings. We need to keep the current approach but stop the brainless shots we saw in the 1st innings. Hard to see us regaining the ashes now

The DeGrandomme one was slightly different in that he'd actually played a shot and naturally gone forward out of his crease. Pope in the slips was lightening quick and threw down the stumps. Bairstow was dozy walking out of the crease but with it being the last ball of the over I think the umpires should have intervened and taken his word that he assumed the ball was dead. He'd ducked the bouncer and certainly wasn't looking for a run. In the spirit of fair play the Aussies certainly let themselves down. Carey has even said since that he'd noticed Bairstow doing it so at least have a word and warn him - then it's his own fault.

T' 2023 tests on 22:30 - Jul 3 with 1730 views | pioneer | Bit of a stain on the game all round Bairstow for his brain fart, which he seems to do after most balls Cummings for not withdrawing the appeal…..no aspect of Bairstows action was aimed at gaining an advantage. England might have ‘invented’ disgraceful behaviour on the field in bodyline but the aussies have perfected it (underam bowling, sandpaper, and now this) Umpire for starting to return bowlers hat before calling over Egg and bacon tie wearers in the pavilion for intimidating aussie players….its a privilege for members to have the players walk through the pavilion to the changing rooms, not an opportunity for abuse The law makers for leaving this area so vague.

If there's one good thing to come out of it (apart from the unbelievable knock by Stokes of course) it's that the England team will stop treating their opponents like pals and start pressing home every single ounce of advantage instead of frittering them all away The mindset of English cricket has been altered, to free the players from fear of failure. Now it needs to go that one step further, to stop the fear of not being seen as "nice". I want eleven b@stards out on the pitch, every day. Same at Dale

But 85-4! Not cost us so far (this time) I'd have had Foakes in instead of Woakes (with Bairstow having moved to five in the order) but... Stokes knee problem meant we needed an extra bowler instead

T' 2023 tests on 16:51 - Jul 6 with 1435 views | foreverhopefulDale | Magnificent display of express pace bowling by Mark Wood. Shame he wasn't in the first 2 tests, but better late than never. Really makes a difference have genuine pace rather than slow fast or fast medium, 90 plus mph against mid 80s. Dropped catches did cost us in the end, at least 50 maybe as many as 100 runs. What has to happen for a wicketkeeper to replace Bairstow behind the stumps? Its got to the point where sheer bloody mindedness is behind his selection. If his wicketkeeping isnt enough to see him ‘rested’ that shot to which he was out should be. Play it again and again to kids to drill into them how not to bat.

The game is nicely poised after day 2. As we need to win all 3 remaining games, this Aussie innings is critical. We don’t want to be chasing much more that 300 & even then we need other batsmen to come in and support what Stokes is doing with the bat. Looking forward to today
