Swansea City v Millwall : Matchday Thread 22/23 UPDATED on 22:32 - Aug 16 by magicdaps10

Manning was injured, he had a knock in the first half and couldn't go anymore.
Right back put about 2/3 late ones on in him in the 1st half.

They targeted Sorinola and the first cross came in from his side after he was left exposed by Piroe. Then the cross/corner comes in directed at him, he gets out jumped and the rest we all know. If latibeaudierre didn’t get injured we probably win the game. They were filthy dirty in the first half and deserved more cards .

On the plus side Sllen when match fit will be one of our best players, Wood I thought was fantastic along with Darling and Naughton , Grimes had a decent game too. Much improved on Blackburn but a terrible end to the game for us.

I won’t complain if we keep up the positive showing but two wing backs as back up are a necessity now.

Each time I go to Bedd - au........................

I think a few don't want him here.

Trouble is, he is on a good wage and he is lower championship quality, even had league 1 clubs sniffing around.

Fulton is a dogger, he has the occasional touch in him but he is technically a very poor player that is being highlighted more in a passing style.
He's shot with us for sure and I think the Joey performance tonight just highlights Fultons limitations.

Piroe seems to be linking player a lot better but seems to be way off the mark with his finishing boots.

Anothher day we would be 4-0 up there at 85mins but poor finishing has us at that dangerous 2-0 scoreline, it's not an excuse because that last 5 minutes can't be excused but the panic just kicks in from Millwall first goal, heads just go.

I personally feel it would be unfair to lay blame on tonight Martin although I could be wrong.....i think after being so dominant, conceding that 1st goal just kicks in ultra panic mode.

Fair BUT he has been the one to insist only his way is the way.
The goals were not his fault and he must be seething.

Frankly, we can lose any game from seemingly unassailable leads

I’m cross

Wing back is a massive issue, Manning takes left side for sure but the rihht side is an issue and will likely see some speed with getting a player in now that Joel L is injured.

Allen was unbelievable tonight, I believe he stays on and we win 2-0......genuine leader and passion in there tonight.

For 85mins we were superb.

Should have been out of sight before they had their chances in the last 20mins. Fell apart when Manning and Joe went off, nothing coming off for Piroe at the moment. Obafemi should have scored straight after their first goal.
Lati missed a sitter, keeper made a great save from Joe, N'tcham fired straight at the keeper when either side was a certain goal, Oba 's 1 on 1. Enough chances to win a couple of games.
Not sure what Sorinola brings to the table, would have liked to have seen Cooper get a run out.
And finally Joe Allen, take a bow son, you were outstanding and thats without the rose tinted glasses.

I’m cross

Of course he is seething, it will be reflected back on him and it was truely inexcusable last 5 mins.

Its a bitter pill to swallow after 85mins of quality, even seeing a passion to throw their bodies on the line..... I really thought we had crossed a line tonight, only to be undone with sheer panic in that last few minutes.

To be fai that was an outstanding bit of defending when it looked like he could t catch him

Piroe should have done better with the 2nd ball

This is Patches O'Houlihan saying "Take care of your balls, and they'll take care of you."

Its screaming for an old experience pro to create calm and provide beef and a bit of order amongst the chaos. Swansea do not have any.............................?,

Well none except Ryan Bennett? Wood Cabango and Darling average 22 years each. Still finding their way.

Bring him on at 85m ins with 10 to go. Seen more last minute shenanigans than most and at a higher level than Millwall. Being paid a kings ransom to giggle to himself as he boxes his kit up in his Swansea flat. 85 min plus is "Bennett time". This s what he does and why Cooper gave him a good deal.

Ok, I haven't read the whole thread, I came home, walked the dog and now....

I'm disappointed but not angry. We threw it away but to be honest, it's probably a fair result and in the end, we played quite well for a large chunk of it.

I think the turning point came when Joe went off. Joe was in the right place at the right time to break up any attacks, he had Millwall passing backwards whereas Fulton wasn't in those positions and they could spray the ball wide or push it forward. When he's properly fit things will improve.

There are ome other, minor things, Sorinola looks a bad signing to me, just not good enough for what we need, why oh why did Oba hesitate? I think he should have shot when he gt into the box but he took another touch, left himself close to their keeper and allowed the defender to get a foot in. I suppose my biggest complaint is why did the ref let them get away with so many fouls, was it 4 on Manning before he got the card out?

The 2 own goals, desperate stuff but the high ball is where Millwall are strong and they put us under a lot of pressure.

I thought Ntcham did quite well but needs to be fit enough for 90, Manning was good, Joe...enough said. Fisher made a few good saves again.

All in all we have to be satisfied with the performance if not the result. It's a big improvement for me. We were much better, more urgency, more pace but there is still work to be done and I do wonder why he changed back to wing backs when the back 4 did OK at Blackpool. My opinion, Fulton needs to move on because if Joe stays fit then he shouldn't get another kick, we need to play Manning but replace Sorinola and Latibeaudiere. AND, if Joe isnt fit or can't last 90 I think I'd rather play Naughton there, he reads the game better than Fulton, his positioning and passing is better.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

Five 21-22 year olds. Young guys finding their way. Lati, Cabango, Darling, Wood, Sorinola. When the tempo goes up not yet with enough 'nous' to see it through. Swansea were much better last season when Christie 31 year replaced Laird 21.

Decent write up there but I firmly believe we deserved to win that game tonight.

I am repeating myself here and apologies for it but Joey Allen was immense and highlighted how poor Jay Fulton is......he needs to move on.

More than satisfied with the performance and certainly disappointed with the result.

Hmmm, they hit the crossbar twice, they had shots blocked and they put us under more presuure than we did them in the 6 yard boxes.

Piroe wasn't great but he was at least keen to shoot, he went close once, had 2 others blocked. Ohter players took too much time. That brings me back to an issue, we were too hesitant around the edges of their box, we took an extra touch before putting crosses in, we delayed passes all giving them time to get bodies back.

It's fine margins and if we trim them, we win, maybe!

A couple had suggested Joey Allen was past it but tonight, I think, showed he will be very important for us. He's quality, end of.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

I'm not going to accuse the players of match fixing or intentionally throwing the game to get RM sacked but after seeing the end to that game it's definitely one or the other.
