Sounds about right for us then. Glad Bunney going , never rated him ..ever, in 5 years a few moments of good football , but too gangly and no direction, cant tackle for toffee and positional sense is woeful. Buchanan was ok in the past but perhaps not League One standard now so just right for the future for The Dale and our forward progressive proactive board. |

I can’t make my mind up if this is a good idea or not. I can only assume (pray) that we have an established left back ready to sign to replace him. I get the feeling that he’d made it clear he wasn’t going to sign a new deal with Dale.
Bunney’s delivery is second to none and when we were flying he created so many genuine goalscoring opportunities. I couldn’t argue with Hilly declaring him one of the best left backs in League One. Outstanding quality. When we’re not flying, he seemed to struggle. Unfortunately I think he got found out a little bit and teams discovered if they played a genuine winger against him it pretty much nullified his attacking threat.
I’m surprised he’s made the move to Northampton as he’s very much a Manchester boy.

Buchanan has just signed a new contract with Northampton. |
The contract extension is something triggered by Buchanan himself, rather than something offered out by the club. If I got wind that someone was coming to replace me at work, then I'd do similar. There's a lot of ins and outs at Northampton. Wouldn't rule this one out just yet. |  | | |

Thanks for 5 years and some great displays (all at left-back), and some pretty terrible ones (all up front, most notably in one sub appearance at, ironically, Northampton that still remains the worst sub appearance by any Dale player I've ever seen).

Did KH sign Delaney in the knowledge that Bunney was expected to go and so will Delaney start at left back on Saturday.
Also in recent weeks he as used Matty Done at left back in some games, again was this experimenting with Done there as a long-term replacement for Bunney at left back. Then we have Kitching who we signed as a left back last year, but I think he looks better in midfield and Nlthe, who as looked as looked a bit doggy at full back, but he has the pace to get forward and create chances.
It will be interesting to see what KH does in terms of team selection on Saturday. | | | |

Indeed, and if we're playing 3-5-2 i'm fine with Done as a left-sided wingback with the security of a back 3 to bomb forward, but not as a FB in a back 4
Done's problem since his return has, i suspect, largely been down to the lack of involvement when played up front with little service from either the wings or midfield. Playing him as a wingback means greater involvement in the game and he is a pretty good footballer who we can ill-afford to have hanging around getting frozen stiff up front on his own
Better still if we could sign someone else to play that role and supply the throughballs for him to run onto
Not sure Nthle has been tried in that role either. He's been part of the 3 CBs or just FB and not very secure, but he does have potential and pace to play wide with sufficient cover behind him | |
